Great job Simon. I don't think I've even seen Flight with this kind of detail in the autogen. For those that are thinking of saying there is "too much detail" and "CPU's won't be able to process that", you might be in for a surprise.

Thanks guys. Tom, I just received a 'cast list' from Ben that told me the contributors, but am, as ever, sworn to secrecy for a little while yet.So I was only guessing from our earlier chats at the time I did the quick video (not bad for a handheld phone!). So great to hear it out in the open re. Propsman. Those houses look amazing, and as I said, even the freeway curbs and texturing are to die for.I think that as it all comes together, the old 'synergy' principle will come to the fore, the sum of all the parts will be waaay more than each component - eg, replay that scene, with an AI aircraft passing by in the distance, even more realistic. Please do not tease us re. the screenshots, I'm getting chills just from imagining dusk lighting on those roads!Enjoy the next few weeks guys, and I do mean everyone in the Laminar team. This is the time where all your unseen efforts start to be celebrated! I know what it's like working in the 'backroom', so you gotta enjoy the limelight eventually!

Great work X-Plane it's looking fantastic!! My brother has been an avid X-Plane supporter ever since FSX was released and I've been watching the progress with anticipation, but I wish you would also include....1) Realistic ATC2) Realistic AI traffic control3) Be able to use current FS9/FSX developed AI models and flightplans4) Being able to use current FS9/FSX airport sceneriesI'm not sure if this is at all possible but if it were, I'd switch over as soon as X-Plane 10 is released!Frank

1. Will be included in XP102. Will be included in XP103. FS9 and FSX AI models are nowhere near as accurate as XP10 flight models will be. Every single AI aircraft will have it's own flight model using the X Plane core flight model. ie. the flight model will be far more realistic than any FSX AI aircraft. (I won't discuss whether X Planes flight model for the simmers aircraft is superior to FSX or not out of avoiding a pointless debate about which one is better.)4. XP9 can already use FS9 and FSX sceneries by running a simple importer.

Great news Goran, I was unaware of that! But I'm talking about 3rd party AI models like those from Alpha India Group, Ai Malcontent, AiAardvark, etc, etc....Frank

Ok, fair enough. AI is totally new for X Plane 10 so I'm not sure what kind of 3rd party integration will be possible.Just wait and see I guess.

The autogen looks really good, but the ground texture in a city/urban area should probably be shades of dirty grey, not juicy green. Way too much green in that picture compared to the google shot! Dominates the general impression and makes it look like a huge spa park...But well, that´s critique on a high level - good work and very promising.

LOL.gif and your statement doesn't count towards that argument?Honey, we wont discuss how fat you look in those jeans because it might hurt your feelings... but, at least i didnt say that you looked fat in those jeans.LOL.gif

FS AI planes have a flightmodel..?

FS AI planes have a flightmodel..?
Sure they do! The kind that would slap wings on the tarmac...if they had wingflex. LOL.gif

HelloHow many Ai aircraft is XP10 going to support, will it be able to fill a large airport such as EGLL without dragging down frames

Not exactly sure the maximum number of aircraft. However, each AI aircraft will operate on its own CPU core. If you don't have that many cores, then the cores will share the workload among however many aircraft you choose to have. FPS impact will not be as bad as many people think as X Plane 10 has been coded very differently to how FSX is coded. What will probably down frames is a graphics card with very little VRAM. I can safely say it will have AT LEAST 20 AI aircraft as Austin used that number as an example in an earlier newsletter. I have seen an AI video that demonstrates the AI aircraft taxiing, departing and flying SIDS, and in that video there were more than 20 aircraft taking off. All the while, FPS were VERY smooth throughout the entire video.

Austin said: "If you have 20 processors, then you can run TWENTY AI PLANES WITH BASICALLY ZERO FRAME-RATE HIT."I doubt that dual or quad core processor will be able to run 20 AI planes with decent framerates. Maybe I'm wrong though. It depends how efficient is FM code.

You could take the plunge on the new 8-core AMD FX-8 8150 Bulldozer processor, I'm sure that might help. It's not nearly as fast as the nearest Intel equivalent but I'm sore the multiple cores would help with X-planes AI.
Have you all seen this? It nicely breaks down the video that was posted earlier. It was posted on the XP10's blog (no affiliation with LR) site.

Thanks for posting Simon's video analysis, when someone takes the time to do a proper breakdown like that you really get to see the attention to detail and incredible complexity that has gone into this version of X-plane. I foresee exciting times ahead.Rhydian

Of course, a Dual core or Quad core won't have the same framerates as a 20 core CPU. But you're talking about extremely negligible figures. The flight model has a VERY small hit on the CPU. It always has. The flight model is just a series of equations. A P4 Extreme Single Core CPU could process 9 726 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second). That's over 9 billion.Today's 2600K i7 CPU's can perform 128 300 MIPS.You can see what kind of figures we're talking about and how little they would affect a flight model in X Plane.
