That's the one I'm leaning to, glad you can use your old planes in XP10. Will pick it up later today.
Not in every case. One of my add ons that I made won't work in X Plane 10. Can't read the airfoils. I have to remake them in XP10's airfoil maker. Fun.If you're looking for GA's, let me know. I know a couple of good ones. One is a twin engine with constant speed prop.biggrin.png
"cinema verité" is the setting to have the camera move with the forces; I think that's what he was looking for. Been there for a long time.
I think the problem is that "cinema verité" is not exactly self-explanatory. I think "Dynamic Cockpit Camera" would make it more obvious what that feature was. That's just one example of why the UI is in need of an overhaul (and to be fair Austin has conceded as much).

Thanks Goran, weird that it would take the hype XP10 to get me to reevaulate XP9 and I'm a staunch FSXr, but I have to say just spending time learning XP's setup and moving from the crappy default planes has really changed my opinion of XP. I'm having fun doing my normal routes, but it all seems so new now. I always hated XPs flight dynamics, but now I realize it was the crappy planes I owned. I have to take back alot of my XP is crap thinking.

Goran,These guys are just bored and looking for a reaction from you. I'm assuming you must know that. I don't think there are many folks from the "outside world" viewing this thread so it might be time to give it a rest.Awesome that Laminar Research was able to port Xplane to the handheld devices.....with all these new inroads with the 3rd party developers and a brand new release of XPlane 10 on the horizon it's driving these guys nuts after the treatment they have received from Microsoft. I emailed Xplane tech support with a demo question and I had a response in less than 2 hrs!As you know.....Ben Supnik has already posted info on optimization strageties going forward along with tips for gathering data so that Laminar can fine tune the engine etc....We are extremely lucky to have such a responsive company developing Xplane..... they listen and give a crap about the customer. What does the FSX crowd get...??? the middle finger and silent treatment..... what a contrast.!!Let the software speak for itself man....... I think anyone with half a brain will be able to pick up on the worthy information in your posts..Keep it positive and ignore the trolls..... they just want to see a reaction from you.Craig
To be honest..............you don't really know what you're talking about. The OP isn't a troll looking for a reaction. It was based on many years of desktop simming & real flight. Keep in mind, that MSFS is a platform on which many 3rd parties built upon. It's been extremely easy to get in touch with 3rd party vendors. And MSFS was very open with 3rd parties in regards to the beta procecess........for the three versions I beta tested. No middle finger.L.Adamson --- X-Plane 8,9, all MSFS, real pilot, etc.

A mind that has been opened! I congratulate you and take my hat off to you, sir. I knew you couldn't be closed minded with a Battle Of The Planets avatar. Should you need help with x plane, my inbox is always open.(sorry, its 220am here and I'm running on noodles and coffee)

Hi guys,I have been playing with the demo, the night lighting is really impressive. It takes some time to get used to the sim (having used FS for so many years), but no show stopper so far. For the past year or so I have exclusively been flying in the ORBX regions, their ground textures are amazing, and I hope to see one day something similar with Xplane 10 (not completely crazy about the textures in XP10, but again no show stopper)One thing I really would like to see in XP is an utility like Active Camera or EzDock Camera... may be something already exists (either 3rd party or in the sim?)ThanksRegardsJohn

I appreciate Mikes review. I've been a gamer since the 80s, so I am well aware of what a beta is, and to not get too worked up over Beta issues. However, an early review by someone of a Beta, gives me a heads up on things to look for. Im capable of deciding for myself if the issues are anything to worry about.Ive tried VP9, and it didnt do it for me, neither does FSX. So, im still an FS9 guy. If the torrent ever finishes, I will try XP10 and give my quick review of the Beta.

I will try XP10 and give my quick review of the Beta.
Just make sure it's positive, or there'll be hell to pay.

Thanks for the review of the demo.... ERRR betaI'm not surprised of the replies from the XPers. I saw that coming.FWIW Anyone remember the FSX demo? I thought it sucked...performance was horrible, there was only one area to fly from. But at least it wasn't a 10 min demo.I loaded the XP10 demo myself... ok, I need to setup an nvidia profile for sure, the default settings are nasty. Again the GUI is just like XP9 (which sucks) so I'll have to spend some time configuring my controller setup. KSEA looks good, there's AI that's cool. The ATC is really funny as far as realism goes but hey, it's a step. That stock 747 has nasty graphics (again, probably need to setup a profile). The cloud textures look alright, I'd say FSX with addons looks better. But I set the vis and ceiling low and it looks a lot better than FSX ever has. I actually haven't gotten off the ground yet (controller settings). But I look forward to more in-depth (am I allowed to do that??) evaluation with the demo.

Hello folks,First, let the old guy tell you that when I opened this thread, I thought I was in a school playground. I asked myself "are these grown-ups" or just kids arguing?I have purchased all versions of X-Plane (including X-Plane for iPhone), but I always went back to MSFS, for the same reasons many of us did. Although I agree with most of the remarks of the original poster, I am now inclined to look a little deeper into X-Plane 10. Calling this version a demo instead of a beta was probably a little bit misleading, as Laminar Research has always offered a full working version (with a smaller flying area) of their software, so most of us thought this was an example of the final product. But for the very first time I am inclined to buy a payware aircraft (I had read some good opinions about a few of them) to explore X-Plane a little further. I just need to decide which one.I am running the demo (whoops! beta ;-) ) on a Macbook Pro and it seems to run very well, with the advantage that I do not need to reboot via bootcamp in order to run FSX under Win7Jean-Jacques

Isn't Xplane shipping before Christmas? If so I'd certainly struggle to call it a beta. Heck, even the Xplane website calls it a demo. If the manufacturers of the product are calling it a demo I think we can be pretty sure it's a demo. There's one guy on another site trying to convince everyone it's a pre-alpha LOL.gif

I also don't know why they chose "demo" over "beta": Until version 10, with every version of x-plane that I remember, it was clear to be a beta (even on the shipped discs!). Maybe they just thought, a little bit mindlessly, that everybody "would know because it has always been like that". A mistake that leads to confusion, for sure.

While I'm an FSX fan, I do see potential with XP. The autogen has the look of Cities XL, which might be a good way to clad a city, but it will never replace detailed satellite images. As for many of the points raised by Mike, I couldn't agree more. The user interface remains terrible, especially for those of us looking to migrate from FSX over to XP. It still very much has the look and feel of Mac, not windows, which may be part of the problem. Please don't attack me for the comment, as I really don't want to get into a debate about MS vs Apple. That said, the interface needs some serious work, as it is anything by intuitive for those of us used to something far more user friendly. The aircraft models remain terrible, by comparison to what is currently available in FSX - both payware and freeware. I suspect that as payware developers become more familiar with XP 10, we'll begin to see significant improvements both in quality and variety. That said, you certainly get quite the range of aircraft in XP, which is very impressive. The scenery, I believe, looks much better than traditional FSX. The colour wheel is right and we don't have all those deserts textures like we do in the default FSX. Personally, I think XP nailed the ground textures, though I agree with Mike, overall, the sim may be a little dark. Night lighting looks fantastic. As for performance, this remains an issue, which is why I never fully took to XP-9. Simply put, it does not have the same flight feel as FSX. I certainly hope much of this can be worked out, but for now, I think I'll remain an FSX user.Bill

Flying the King Air C90B I get a nicer experienceI also found that you have to set the pan direction to the fast modes in the assignments, and i use shortcuts to up/down otr left/right (under general) which lowers/raises the seat
