December 22, 201114 yr Thx for your suggestions on the cloud dens=12 thing. I'll give it a go during the hollidays and see what I can find out...Mas Martin Jensen
December 22, 201114 yr My first flight with AS2012, SP1b, and latest FSUIPC (real world weather, here descending into Edinburgh out of Southampton):—A perfect flight — so far, I definitely like AS2012! ^_^Cheers,Brian
December 22, 201114 yr I've read a couple of pages back, that doing anything to the sliders in FSX (like setting cloud draw distance up or down) will set the value back to 8 immediately. Is that correct? This is correct, I now check fsx.cfg before starting FSX to make sureTEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=12 FS2024 • PMDG 738, 77F • FSL A321 • A2A Comanche, Aerostar • BS Baron, Bonanza, Caravan Pro • JF Tomahawk • TAOG H500C BeyondATC • GSX Pro • ChasePlane & Flow Pro • TDS GTNXi • FSUIPC • AutoFPS • RealTurb 9800X3D B650E • ROG OC RTX 5090 • 64GB DDR5-6000 • VKB Gladiator, STECS, T-Rudder • Tobii 5 • ISP 1 Gbps
December 22, 201114 yr then use the 'Load settings' option to change your configurations on the fly.where do you have that option of "load settings"? Joel Strikovsky
December 22, 201114 yr This is correct, I now check fsx.cfg before starting FSX to make sureTEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=12Ok - thxs a bunch. I think I'll put the FSX.cfg on the desktop ;)Mas Martin Jensen
December 22, 201114 yr One other thing to get a realistic overcast is to set FSX Cloud Draw to 110 nm and set AS2012 Maximum Upper Visibility to at least 120 nm. This way you will get a carpet of clouds to the horizon but it could also hugely affect your FPS. If it does then turn autogen off while at cruise. Paul Deemer
December 22, 201114 yr I haven't actually tried this myself, but in theory, it should be possible to manually modify the settings files to set the CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY to the value you want, and then use the 'Load settings' option to change your configurations on the fly. I think that would prevent the value from being reset. Give it a try and let us know if it works. where do you have that option of "load settings"?This was exactly my question when reading Paul's suggestion. Thanks Google I found this page and it seems to work. :( Regards,Axel
December 22, 201114 yr Just got it running and I am happy with the results. Great product I guess I will not be using ASE anymore. Craig Hustadt Windows 7 64 bit OS - Intel 2600K @ 4.8 GHz RAM 8GB - Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 @ 1920 x 1200 Intel SSD 250

December 23, 201114 yr I note a few people suggesting texture max load of 2048. Isnt the ngx designed for 4096? Does is matter? Im really enjoying flying with active sky 2012. Not sure how much is placebo but it certaily looks and feels better to me than ase, and the weather is more interesting than what i was getting with rex2. December 23, 201114 yr Screen shots of the NGX in AS 2012, used with SHADE. If you have any questions about it feel free to send me a PM.
December 23, 201114 yr The textures and clouds used in ASE2012 are not 'better' then the ones used by REX, and there are probably less of them. The real difference I find is that AS2012 loads the textures for the weather you are actually using in a reasonable amount of time, so I am willing to keep playing with the weather, and that improves my experience. REX can also use weather influenced textures but as it took me significantly longer, I tended to just keep using the same theme over and over. If you have SSD drives, or are just more patient then me, then ASE2012 probably wont give you any significant improvement on the visual front. There are also improvements to the weather handling making it much easier to tune real world weather to your needs or to create weather systems from scratch. These are important to me but might not concern you. Paul Smith.
