June 30, 201213 yr Al, Thanks so much for posting that video. I'm apparently not as turned by it as some of the others--yes, it's subtle, but my problem with UTX was always that it was too unsubtle. How are framerates affected, especially compared to UTX? Also, are you by any chance using a modified halo.bmp? I'm wondering if my smaller halo would render the effect invisible. James

June 30, 201213 yr There used to be a Halo.bmp in our library where the lights were star lights. Its not there anymore..Does anyone have it ? I need a copy please. I lost mine. My lights are too big and they are one big blog. I hate it. Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

June 30, 201213 yr I have GEX and it puzzles me why the lighting doesn't have separate controls for what I'll call the 'city lights' and those bright lights. The bright lights seem overly bright but, it seems, you have to turn them both down. Ah well...just another thing. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. June 30, 201213 yr I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe if you are a shockwave lights customer you might be able to adapt the included bmps, which contain star shaped lights. If you do a google search for "halo bmp" or similar, you'll eventually find quite a few alternatives. You don't need special software to preview the look of these and they'll show fine in your windows picture viewer. I've got one of them working quite well with UTX. It stops the big splodge of light but is also big enough to look like actual streetlighting. The only thing you can't change are the artificial looking, and far too ubiquitous, traffic lights, which use the same halo bmp but with hard coded colours imposed. If you look at the preview in the UTX setup it gives the impression that choosing only street lights and not intersection lights will eliminate the red and green ones. It doesn't. June 30, 201213 yr Commercial Member At first glance I actually like it, but two questions: Does it wipe out autogen near the lights? How about during the day? Do you know if it uses the default Halo.bmp? Yes to either of these would be a show stopper for me. June 30, 201213 yr Thanks for the video-- it helped save me from making a purchase I wouldn't have been happy with.
June 30, 201213 yr I am not convinced yet this would not be a bad or good purchase hmm never had this problem before - just not enough to sway me one way or another havent seen any decent screenshots nor have I seen any shots at dawn or dusk quite a bit of unknowns with this addon. Any more info would be great. Nice review Al, thank you. Rich Sennett
July 3, 201213 yr Alain pointed me out to this thread.. I always shoot my vids with an HD cam. No bloom, no dx10.. etc.. Here's some unedited inflight screenies.. Go to terrain.cfg.. Back up original... Reduce "Object size".. gives you more light.. I have to reduce autogen to dense but you get a lot more night lighting.. Original objectsize is 350, here's where mine is set.. // Small road light [Autogen.2.1.0] guid={B4011B59-8B6B-C446-B79D-A9DA97AC3C05} LegacyId=2 AutoObject={5d7cd342-761d-4ceb-9814-66c5c76eb010} (ag_light) ObjectSize=155 ExclusionWidth=50 Offset=10 Density=100 MinAutogenDensity=20 PlaceOnWater=No RandomHeading=No // Medium road light [Autogen.3.2.0] guid={81F596DE-70CF-DC43-BFCC-6F64A456DB23} LegacyId=3 AutoObject={5d7cd342-761d-4ceb-9814-66c5c76eb010} (ag_light) ObjectSize=150 ExclusionWidth=50 Offset=10 Density=100 MinAutogenDensity=40 PlaceOnWater=No RandomHeading=No // Small highway light [Autogen.4.3.0] guid={1D64764E-9F03-894D-AA40-847233974C2C} LegacyId=4 AutoObject={2ddb04f6-5f14-4f6b-8d05-5eea3c18d8da} (ag_light) ObjectSize=155 ExclusionWidth=50 Offset=15 Density=100 MinAutogenDensity=20 PlaceOnWater=No RandomHeading=No // Large highway light [Autogen.5.3.0] guid={079F0A35-198F-AC4B-B5BF-BD27A1462736} LegacyId=5 AutoObject={2ddb04f6-5f14-4f6b-8d05-5eea3c18d8da} (ag_intenseghlight) ObjectSize=155 There's an update coming to give an option with more night lighting.. Your screenies look completely different from what I'm seeing and they encourage me to stick with this product. Can you please explain exactly what your autogen tweak is doing? Can you please confirm that you are using the default halo.bmp as the basis for your lights?Thank you. Rob Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
July 3, 201213 yr I have purchased this product sucker for this kind of stuff lol what he is saying is you change the object size only in your terrain.cfg file to something smaller you will get more lights grouped together hence more visible lights the smaller the number actually groups lights closer to each other which adds more in your sim, also fyi I think the lights are bit to yellow there is a tweak to make them any color you wish but only one color for all, as mentioned before not as in your face as utx lighting what I mean by that is a blob type of glow is not present. How to change color of light In the main folder of FSX you find subfolder EFFECTS Within this folder you will have the Following files: fx_exphiway.fx fx_exphiwayh.fx fx_expw.fx fx_expwh.fx Open the file with Notepad and locate the line: Color Start = 240, 205, 99, 200 End Color = 240, 205, 99, 0 You are nly changing the first 3 numbers leave 200 & 0 alone you need photoshop or something like that make a circle and fill it with rgb color 240, 205, 99 now you change thos values to what you want then take note of those new rgb values and replace the original 3 values with the new ones. July 3, 201213 yr I'm not the developer, but have been working back and forth through emails.. I haven't changed anything in the Halo.bmp, unless REX or A2A lights have.. The autogen tweak brings the lights much closer together, so you'll get more night lighting.. I had to reduce fsx autogen setting to dense because the framerates were hit pretty good.. Some people have stated that they can't see the lights that far, could be system related, I really don't know.. The developer is a very nice guy and will answer any questions.. Keep in mind, if you fly into big cities, you can tweak the terrain.cfg on the fly,and mess with the objectsize , reload scenery and it takes effect.. The reason I got very excited about this is because I had this idea long ago to add 3d night lighting to the entire world, rather than just a few areas.. I'm glad this program came along and promote things I like, expect nothing in return except to share with the fs community.. Cheers.. Tony Fontaine
July 3, 201213 yr I have found that ObjectSize=250 doesn't kill your fps the original number is 350 anything lower than 250 gets iffy Rich Sennett
