OPUSFSX : Stay away?

Featured Replies

I agree....I haven't used it but this thread made me aware if it. Also shows the challenges our FSX developers face with these products as it is impossible to make everyone happy. This one seems to have a few features I like so worth giving the demo a try.

Cheers

The OPUS one is looking good. I am a REX user but for textures only, they have limitations to New Zealand with their weather engine. Temperatures are too hot and only cloud coverage over the main cities. I am going to try OPUS to see how it compares as well.

Currently I am using REX Textures with the default FSX Jeppeson Weather engine.

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

He seems to have apologized to the developers. It was a misunderstanding and that is understandable.

A good lesson for everyone. If help is needed, go to the official Opus support forum at Flight1, and just ask for it.

I used Opus last night and was amazed with the weather between a flight from EHAM to EGSS. Spectacular clouds, even when at a distance, that stayed in place (not disappearing and reloading) until you got to them and went through them into zero visibility.

Head cameras also worked great.

To me, Opus is as much of a dramatic improvement to FSX as Orbx scenery.

This thread reminded me to try out OpusFSX and see what it's like after seeing lots of positive comments. After trying out the demo for about an hour (restarting every 10 minutes) I decided to buy it. I really like the program and I think it does dramatically add to FSX. A good purchase!

Flying round the New York area in FSX is fun at the moment .

Nice to see this thread was left open so it could work itself out among the parties at hand.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

I wanted to get the demo, but after visiting the website saw that RW is not included. Is this right or am I misssing something?

The demo only downloads real-world weather while you're on the ground (but the weather stays after you take off), and disables itself every 10 minutes.

Ah, OK, then I'll give it a shot. Cheers...

The "rules" in AVSIM fora have always been fairly fluid other than the "golden" rule and some very obvious TOS-oriented things. However, I've rarely seen "he said, she said" expose-style posts end up well. I would hope that places like Hangar Chat could avoid becoming "agony aunt" shoulders, but it is what it is. Spats and quarrels with developers have a chequered past here. I don't know much about this new software, but it does speak well of the developers that they did not enter the fray here. Whereas some developers have been drawn, quartered, tarred, and feathered in a quasi-public manner over AVSIM's history, it may not, perhaps, be the best thing to do. In many respects, the OP's post amounts to a valid concern, and perhaps Hangar Chat is the equivalent of the bar/pub where you come and complain about how such-and-such ripped you off, but it seems that there is a forum for that specific line of inquiry and diatribe with respect to the product in question.. Not certain how airing that laundry out here helps when the discussion should be "over there."

Then again, if a guy needs to vent, I guess that's cool too.

I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

For me Opus X has been a joy. The best dynamic weather yet IMHO, with no lumpy transition from one area to another.

My only problem is getting METARS and TAFS, so I found a very good FREE met site that gives TAFs and met area reports painlessly, and I find it better for planning anyway.

Ian, can you get weather listed waypoint by waypoint, like you can in ASE?

I have been using ASE for years, but like every other program, it has its limitations, and also its good points. For me, being able to load a flight plan using FSBuild and ASE gives me the weather along the entire route.

The down side is the limitations of both the programs and fsx/p3d. I flew into EDDP the other night, it was supposed to be overcast at 400ft, yet I could see the airport from 11000ft!

Will, flight planning as far as I know is in development and will definitely be in the program, as of the current version it is not though.

Locking this down simply to help bad blood fade away now that the OP says everything is resolved.
