Why are Developers remaining silent?

Featured Replies

They're remaining silent, because they know what happens when they misinform the public ;)

Thats the answer to whoever posted this :D.

Can't say I'm bothered about any of those devs or their products apart from FSLabs

Well, I do have to say I'm getting a bit annoyed by the complete silence of PMDG concerning their 777. Up till now every few months they come with a short statement (which tells you nothing) and saying they'll be releasing more info soon. But after a statement like that it turns quiet again until the next meaningless statement....

But.... Compared to Level-D and their 757, I praise PMDG for their communicative skills :-)

As someone has already commented on the post, FSLabs made some communication just three weeks ago, so their date of Late March is very pessimistic.

I see both sides of the coin when it comes to the silence. It's much easier for a developer to work with no deadlines as it allows for more freedom instead of rushing a product. On the other hand, I want nothing more in the world than the FSL A320 so the silence is both frustrating and slowly killing me :P

Meh, it doesn't really mean anything other than them being pretty far advanced into the development. PMDG are pretty good about knowing how to hype up their upcoming releases, you'll know it's coming as the whole community will be buzzing.

The fact that blog entry even exists says it all, developers should never post about a product till it's at release stage. Way to many simmers seems to spend more time wanting info and release dates that actually simming. Let them work in peace instead of wasting time being PR reps.

Developers that berate prospective customers for asking about the product, the release date and for updates should be Thankful for the interest. I never understood the mentality that you tell customers "it will be done when it's done so stop asking..." I guarantee that wouldn't fly at a restaurant if you were waiting for your meal.

I think this is the only hobby, or entertainment outlet the people get annoyed and agree at developers, companies for not giving constant updates. Its not even like money is tied up in the product. I don't get mad at Sony for not letting me know or see previews of their newest work in the pipeline, nor Nissan for letting me see a sneak preview of the 2015 GTR....kinda crazy if you ask me.

Maybe it is these kind of emotions that make them hold back the most about showing off where they are in development of certain projects.

The truth is most of the time they just don't know the release date until it's basically almost finished.

If they give the customers an estimated release date (which will be wrong because they don't know) the customers expect a release on that date and start complaining when the product isn't delivered on the 'estimated' date given them. Then they of course then want a new updated estimated release date (which again will be wrong because they don't know), and of course when that new date isn't met the complaining starts, and the cycle just continues over and over and over as long as you keep giving our release dates that are nothing more than a blind guess.

Sometimes its just less of a hassle to just say it will be done when its done, so don't ask.

Because no communication is communication.

It stirs up the forums... people get antsy, it's free advertisement essentially.

That's a silly comparison really.

+1

They owe you nothing in the sense. You have not pre-paid, nor are you "committed" to buy something like you are in the restaurant. They didn't ask you to sit at your screen with your credit card ready, nor did you order something from them and are waiting service.

Again....why not get angry that the new vehicle is not released yet, or that next seasons tv show is not ready yet, or that you can't get that new iphone 6 yet?

Different strokes for different folks.

I like devs that are open and communicate with me as a customer. Keep me in the loop, show me progress, and I'll buy when the time comes. Devs that give me (and other customers) the silent treatment rarely get my money. That's why I am a very happy Aerosoft, Milviz and A2A customer. Most of the others I don't pay much attention to... They're not interested in me, why should I be interested in them. FS addon customers are few and far between. Beats me why there are so many arrogant devs in this tiny business.
