TOP 10 MUST HAVE non-aircraft addons

Featured Replies

After $1000s in addons I have determined that the list below are must-haves as far as utilities and sceneries are concerned. I am curious to see what other people feel are their top 10 non-aircraft addons.

When I was new to flight-simming a top 10 list like this was very helpful in getting myself immersed into FSX.

MY TOP TEN, NON-AIRCRAFT, MUST HAVE ADDONS ARE:

EZDOK

FSCAPTAIN

FSCOMMANDER

GEX

GSX

MCE

OPUSFSX

REX

UT2

UTX

Honorable Mention: Accufeel

Please share yours. Did I miss something?

I don't have 10, but here are my choices.

1. TrackIR.

2. Any weather engine. I prefer AS2012 for the weather map, fight planning and historical weather. Smooth Cloud Transitions mode gives incredible looking clouds even in areas of no METAR coverage.

Anything else doesn't really matter. Other things that I have that I like in no particular order:

FSUIPC, does some nice things, I like the weather smoothing functions.

Accu-Feel, adds life to every aircraft in your hangar.

CumulusX for thermals, ridge lift and more, useful even in powered planes, essential for gliders

Plan-G flight planner, good flight planning tool, uses the FSX database so it's "up to date" :)

http://www.skyvector.com for flight planning.

http://www.airnav.com for airport info and fuel prices.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

In order of importance:

FSUIPC and WideFS (config and networking)

AirHauler (reason to fly)

AS2012 (weather) (planning to test OpusFSX)

VoxAtc or Radar Contact (ATC)

Aivlasoft EFB (charts)

FS2Crew or It's your plane (co-pilot)

vRoute with RouteFinder full version (route planning. eurofpl simmmer subscription is also excellent, but a bit heavy on the wallet)

FSBuild (fuel planning)

LINDA (hardware config)

REX Latitude or FS flight keeper (flight evaluation and logging)

Others:

AccuFeel (sounds and movement)

Airports (FlyTampa, Aersoft megas and so on)

Traffic360 (traffic)

GEX + UTX (textures and object placement)

Orbx/FTX sceneries

REX Essentials (eye candy)

FSCommander (flight planning)

FSGenesis (elevation data)

Hardware:

Saitek x52 pro

VrInsight MCP II (Boeing)

I still might "need" :)

Hi Phil,

Great subject but a bit better suited in the FSX forum. This place is more or less for other stuff. I'll move it over for you but leave a link here.

Kind regards,

This is an automatic message.

The topic could have been moved because we deemed it to be more appropriately placed elsewhere.

FSUIPC (stops certain crashes)

UTX

WX engine (either AS2012 or Opus)

Cloud and some environment textures (AS2012 does this as well)

GEX

IMO the rest depend on what type of flying you enjoy.

For me it's

FSUIPC

MyTraffic 5.4

REX for the textures

AS2012 for the weather

Accufeel

FSCommander (when I do some more serious flights with larger aircraft)

The other four would be sceneries by ORBX and FlyTampa, don't want to name any specific, because I consider nearly all of them are absolutely great.

1) TrackIR

2) FSUIPC

3) Ultimate Terrain X (where available)

4) ORBX FTX Global (when available)

The above four is what I would consider must have if I needed to reinstall FSX. The rest of my 50+ non-aircraft addons (freeware excluded) I would consider optional.
