There's something in the works as we speak, nothing official yet, and I can't say much at the moment, but expect an announcement very soon, maybe even in time for late this summer.

Not gonna get very far right now though without engines!

That's how all new passenger planes will work from now on. Huge tow rope will pull the plane up to 40,000' and then you just glide to your destination. Saves $$$ on fuel! Plus no aircraft noise.

I loved the 787 shape, but after seeing the pics on the Airbus website, I must say I prefer the A350 now (on the other hand, I think the A380 is one of the ugliest... The 747-8 is much better looking!).

Hi, Capt O'Cadhain... well, Sir, you almost gave an old bird (me!) a seizure!! Seeing as you are a beta tester for the upcoming FSLabs Airbus, the title of your post got me all excited. I (like many others) are anxiously awaiting the FSL bird...

Oh well... but thanks for the great pics!

In the meantime, am enjoying the very nice Airbus X ext. Nice plane, and very different from the 737.

All best,

Looks sort of like the B-1 bomber. Have to wait for the engines and paint to get the real look. I guess the 777 has made be prefer planes without winglets. Some of them look strange--and then you have to see them every time you look out the window..

Yeah right, this bird looks like those early Russian test planes when they were trying to perfect the process. The A320 series were sharp looking aircraft but this looks pretty bad visually not near on the same level as the 787. Aside from looks things aren't going to change like your suggesting. What Boeing needs to do is bring things back in house so they can oversee what's going on. The round the world building model isn't working. Once the 787 is back the 350 will be just like the 340, irrelevant in the larger scheme of things... It's not an attractive design again unlike the A320/330 series (the new Boeing like winglets on the new A320 series is another crappy style choice).

Not to start a Boeing vs Airbus fight but the design choices coming from Airbus are far from revolutionary and come off as copy cating. An example of style, practicality, and innovation is the 737MAX's winglets. Airbus in contrast disposed of their unique design and chose Boeing's older winglet model. I tilt my hat to the A380 though but nothing new like that is on the horizon for Airbus just old ideas...

first flight to happen before the end of March if I'm thinking straight. :Applause:   :yahoo:

Hi Rónán,

From what I have read, don't expect the first flight before mid-year. Possibly just before the Le Bourget Airshow in early June.

After reading your post I went on the website and looked. I agree the bird's pics look nice so I await with great anticipation the finished product.

Maybe I've posted allot of helpful suggestions over the years. Just the same I just gave you an award for your sarcasm...

But style doesn't sell aircraft, economics do. That'd be a point against an observation deck, firstly, there's no space above or below the flight deck, but if there were, glass used in aircraft is extremely expensive, the windows on the flight deck cost over €100,000 each to replace, and are also much heavier than aluminium, meaning the aircraft would weigh more and be much less efficient. Efficiency is king when it comes to the design of new aircraft. Novelty items don't bring in the as much money as they cost to add, that's why Emirates is considering removing the shower from the first class cabin on their A380's, the added fuel burn just isn't being offset by the premium they can charge for using it.

With regards the A380's looks, I think it has a very very nice wing, but it stops there, the body of the -800 is just too short compared to its height, hopefully the -900 will solve that and be a more proportionate aircraft, but for now it's just a flying hippo.

Ró.

You forgot about the way more important problem with windows: to have a window, and especially an observation deck, you have to cut great big holes in your nice pristine skin. That causes stress concentrations, which you have to compensate by adding reinforcements around the windows. Planes could be a lot lighter if those pesky passengers and pilots didn't insist on having windows to look out of :P.

That's what I read as well, they were aiming for first flight just before Le Bourget, but it wasn't a hard deadline. Also according to the recent EADS financial results press release there is currently no margin left in the A350 schedule, so any problems that might crop up will push back the first flight date.

The new office looking pretty sharp... Nice find! ^_^

Must have been mistaken, my bad, sorry for misleading anyone.

I think the best thing to do is stop making comparisons with Airbus and Boeing any more Reality is they are now two aircraft companies that cannot produce aircraft quickly enough to keep up with the market demand. Airlines will purchase what suits their needs best and which one can deliver quicker. In some cases Airbus will win, and in other cases Boeing will win. Regardless neither company can keep up with the market demand, and are now not too far off in orders and deliveries over the past 10 years.

Both companies produce beautiful aircraft in their own unique ways.
