Level D 767 - would you still rate it in 2013?

This thread is almost umm...sad.  It is like we are talking of an old friend who passed on! :(

It does seem that way, however to me it also indicates that there is life in this product with a mid life update focusing on areas such as sound and VC environment. Whilst non trivial in themselves they are easier to 'fix' than the core systems and FDE.

Could it be that with engagement with McPhat and say TSS the levelD could once again be in the top number of immersive flight simulation aircraft across any platform, would appear so and just a thought.

I hangered mine some months back, it is very dated in my opinion. But if you are looking for a 767 it is the best out there and as for a sim  it would fall in the top five of heavies. It needs a major update as far as the panel goes.

Lol at the simmers who don't fly it because of the graphics. Same ones who spend more time OUTSIDE looking at the pretty pictures.

A good VC does not mean you spend more time looking outside at the pretty pictures. I fly exclusively from the VC and dont use 2D popups, even programming a FMC I do without popups as for me trackir and moving around keeps the immersion up. Poping up 2D panels totally destroys that immersion.

Sound is important too as with the A2A Mustangs for example you can tell what the engine is doing or if the plugs are starting to foul just by using your ears.

Systems and FDE are important too but I doubt you'd fly the Level D 767 using a text based command line interface, it's all about balance and coming together to make a great whole.

I don't mind the dated graphics, to me there is enough emersion left. What I like is that it functions like it should, I never have the feeling I have to interpret or correct the aircraft because of FSX quirks. Great for BA short haul in Europe.

I was my first add-on plane - seen it used by a friend back in 2000 ish,and was very impressed.

I was more inpressed when I managed to start from cold and dark.

Not used in about 5ish years now.

Beech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?
ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

In my opinion, it is the best B767-300ER available today for FSX and FS9. Its internal views do not look as sharp as more current products, but its simulation of a B767 systems, flight, etc, are tops. Like others, I too would love to see an update for its VC, etc.

I loaned the LD to a friend who was a real pilot. He doing a big real sim session to get into a major airline. The real session was simulating some 767 operations.

Afterward I asked how the LD767 compared to a major airline simulator. He said for the most part, exactly the same. Sometimes the difference in airspeed was out.....by a knot.

Hence why this old fav stays on my pc.

Of course, the thread had to be ruined by someone telling others their personal preferences are somehow ridiculous.

How about you just stick to your own opinion of why YOU like the level d 767 or not?

We all have opinions.  Some people love C/S whilst some hate them.

Some people expect PMDG quality in their $20 products..

I still love it.

Top notch plane still in 2013. With all the enhancements (FS2Crew etc) and decent soundset it still is as immersive as it was years ago. A fully functioning systemed aircraft with liquid framerates. What more do you want? Who cares if the VC is not HD texctures. We are all too HD hungry these days.

Who cares if the VC is not HD texctures.

I do, but mostly I care about the way textures make interaction from the VC extremely difficult.

The overhead is 2D and flat, which makes clicking on knobs, switches from the VC next to impossible in flight because the clickspots are all wrong.

The COM window frequencies are illegible in the VC, and the CDU is static.

All this forces me to open 2D pop ups, when I'm used to setting custom VC views in EZDOK coupled with trackir.

This kills the immersion.

So yes...I care.

As another real world pilot I still enjoy the Level D 767 immensely. As stated by G550 the immersion factor is there and that works for me. This creation is that good. Whenever they bring forth their 757 I'll dust off my credit card......

The Level D 767 is like an aging boxing champion.

In it's time it was the best of the best and even now it still packs a punch.

It will always have a place of honor in the FS Hall of Fame as one of the great milestones in our hobby.

Sorry to quote the whole post but as a TIR user, the VC textures and resolution are crucial to my immersion.

A couple of the folks here who say they a "serious" and "hardcore" (my words) and do not care about pretty textures etc, are missing the point entirely.  And the point is IMMERSION and SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF.  The LDS 763 can no longer do that.
