And as for TapaTalk, I'm using the latest version (I.e. the new paid app, not the original one) and have never had an issues at all. I use it for a few forums (here, FSL and BAV plus some other music and car forums) and its a perfect tool to keep up with them all.

I am only a humble and relatively new Flight Sim enthusiast, no RW flight experience at all, but I find Avsim forums to be an absolutely indispensible resource for my FSX information and questions.

Wonderful job. I don't think we could ask for a better community of like minded individuals. I just wish that individuals would use more tact when disagreeing, but we can't expect all to act there age and not their shoe size. But over all a jolly bunch of Happy Aviator's. Cpt out.

Tom, I am a relative newcomer here, having returned to filght simming a bit more than a year ago. I am happy to have found AVSIM. It has provided a wealth of useful information, and I visit virtually every day and enjoy eading the informed opinions of its members and staff.

So I will take the safe response and say "Avsim, no matter how big your... forums get, you will still be OK by me!".

I think things are just about perfect here, in regards to forum and website functionality and ease of use.  There are only three minor things I miss.

 

First, the actual time of the city of the user as listed under their avatar, but perhaps that is due to privacy concerns, for users not wanting to disclose their location?   Second, I liked the list of users logged in on each sub forum (PMDG forum, FSX forum, etc).  Although all users are listed at the bottom of the main forum page, it's kinda neat to see who is where on a subforum level.   Those two are recent changes I believe, but a third setting I liked to see was the old ongoing top viewed forums of all time list.  Remember the frenzy of users circa 2010-2011 leading up the launch of the PMDG NGX?   I kind of enjoyed watching the race between the FSX and PMDG forums seeing which one was the most popular destination on Avsim.

 

I also remember the times when AVSIM tried to modernize itself, with major rewrites of the main page and the file library, it seemed like they were done just for the sake of change.  Such drastic revisions just ended up upsetting users as more things just end up getting broke in the process, so I am reluctant to call for any drastic changes.   I do like the subtle little upgrades added here and there, like the "click to Return to Top of this AVSIM page" widget on the bottom of the screen; so when you add up these little useability enhancements and other major initiatives, like the new live streaming page, it's like we are getting the modernization that most users may desire without the drastic disruption to the status quo that just ends up frustrating same users.

 

All in all, I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who help make AVSIM one of our favorite destinations on the web.  Even when I am sick of tweaking or flying, I still thoroughly enjoy the company of everyone here and the wealth of knowledge we share among us on things aviation and non-aviation related!

For me it is not about the latest server or load times etc. I find AVSIM to be a great bunch of like minded individuals that gather to expand on this crazy hobby of ours. The forums work fine, the library works fine, technology wise it is a major leap compared to the GO FSFORUM back in the Compuserve days. Reality is the people on here is what make AVSIM great. Compared to other forums this one is the most enjoyable in the world of Flight Sim.

I would also like to thank Tom and all the staff for their excellent efforts - fantastic. Well done.

 

My only gripe - the 'Click To Return' on the bottom of the screen sometimes peeps over my length of sticky tape.... :LMAO:

There is only one safe answer to that question, and that is the absolute truth:

 

"No dear, those pants don't make your butt look big." What remains unsaid of course being "...because your butt is big!" :LMAO:

I actually thought, "hey what a great way to communicate with your customers" until I read the rant part. I thought that soured it a bit. I certainly have no complaints about performance, yet I neither get nor expect results at the speed of light

 

The site itself is fine, and I wouldn't have anything I'd call a complaint as such.  One thing I'd like to see more of is reviews, though. Also, the presentation of results in the  forums search engine doesn't seem to be as good as it was not so long ago. Hard to put my finger on it but I'd say it needs more results per page.

 

The forums are an excellent resource...all the more so since if there's something on your mind, you can more than likely drill down to a forum that that specialises in your area of concern. That greatly increases your chances of quickly obtaining the information you need, I think. Oh and related to that, the "unofficial" vendor forums are particularly valuable.

 

Like Jerra, I probably under-use this place.
