July 7, 201312 yr Author I don't think they'll be selling it... unless they purchased the rights to FSX (it's where the textures are coming from). Correct, a how to is the only option at this point. We found someone that did it and Jon tried it to see how it looks. I would love to get with a group of guys and expand this further now that we know this is possible. City textures could rival FSX like Zinertech's Water does with water. July 7, 201312 yr Looking forward to the "how to" guide. I'd love to help out but I don't have any texture editing skills :( . Does it cover forest and field areas as well? I don't know if they're seperate or as part of the city textures. Nature Boy
July 7, 201312 yr Ya, FS9 just keeps on rolling Someone needs to tell Flight beam, FSDT and Aerosoft this....
July 7, 201312 yr Someone needs to tell Flight beam, FSDT and Aerosoft this.... Nuh ... their head's in another space right now.
July 7, 201312 yr City textures could rival FSX like Zinertech's Water does with water. Was just going through this thread again and I have to respectfully disagree with you there, Dillon. I don't see how textures taken from FSX, and converted to FS9 use could rival FSX. It's FSX textures and when the same textures are used in FS9, I don't see how it could rival FSX. It should look the same with an edge going to FSX for its larger LOD radius. Also, Zinertek water for FS9 can't even come close to FSX water, especially the good ones from REX2. There's just no comparison when it comes to animation, color and vibrancy of the water. Nature Boy

We have always been told FSX style city textures couldn't be had in any kind of way in FS9. We've proved that's not the case. No it won't look as sharp as FSX but it can be improved upon to look allot better than what we currently have using default or GE Pro. Concerning FSX textures looking better in FS9 than FSX, that is not what I was saying. What I was actually saying is after seeing what FSX textures can do we can move forward with a freeware or payware product with custom textures that'll look like what we've all been asking for. The first point was proving to FSXer's and Aerosoft types that GE Pro was not the best that could be done. Now that's been debunked we can move forward. As of now any FSX ground textures can be used in FS9 with a simple modification. No one wanted to admit this before and the rest sat back and drank the coolaide. Things like what Orbix is producing now is not possible but (for me at least) the last hurdle that made FS9 look crappy in areas has been addressed, we just need to expand on that. Until we have a replacement for both FSX and FS9 both are hear to stay and for us using FS9 it's to our best interest to constantly improve it if we can. Concerning Zinertech's Water is another great example of what's not supposed to be possible in FS9 (it's like we've got to keep proving this over and over to you guys). No one is saying it's on the level of FSX but for those of us using FS9 this is a nice alternative coupled with a trouble free sim and stellar performance: FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
July 7, 201312 yr Please, let's not get this one locked. I'm enjoying reading the about the progress.
July 8, 201312 yr Dillon, why don't you just tell us what FSX textures (filenames, folder) to convert?
July 8, 201312 yr Please, let's not get this one locked. I'm enjoying reading the about the progress. For sure. Let's not turn this into the FS9 vs FSX dead horse. This new stuff for FS9 is exciting. Regards, Joe Esposito
July 8, 201312 yr Apologies guys. Maybe I misread Dillon's post, that's why I quoted that part because it looked like he said that using the FSX textures and Zinertek water in FS9 will rival FSX. That's what I read. Anyways, his explanations are on his reply that he meant we can do things in FS9 now that people said was not possible. I wasn't one of the people who said it's not possible. I always keep an open mind and I know that everything can be improved to a certain point. I'm not trying to turn this into an FS9 vs FSX debate. I own both but I don't use FSX anymore. I'm all for FS9. I was just stating the fact that FS9 textures and water will not rival that of FSX because I thought that's what Dillon meant. I wasn't trying to stir the pot. So again, I apologize if my previous post gave that vibe. Carry on. Nature Boy
July 8, 201312 yr Well, possibly all city textures What textures? Names please (and folder). Otherwise no one can follow you. I probably should try to explain. I'm following this 1024 stuff here and elsewhere for quite a while. I'm willing to test this, and I'm confident I can (and have) the tools required. However, without even a hint what FSX textures exactly can/should be converted, and what FS9 textures exactly they will replace it is all quite useless for me.
July 8, 201312 yr However, without even a hint what FSX textures exactly can/should be converted, and what FS9 textures exactly they will replace it is all quite useless for me. Maybe they don't want you to see how these textures look like on your system! Mike Mann
July 8, 201312 yr Been following these threads from the beginning... Just curious - are you guys just talking about replacing default city textures only? I currently use a combination of UT, GE Pro and Birds Eye View (and probably something else I've forgotten). Including the "sandwich" for the city textures. As interesting as this all is, I'm guessing it will never impact my setup. The only thing that probably would is to make all my landclass textures from scratch, using a high-def source. Even so, it's exciting to see new things still be discovered / developed for old FS9.1.
