I've never seen one in person. I'm sure they were quite a sight.

There's one that would fly into IAD on occasion.  I haven't seen it (or heard it, really) in quite some time.  I got chased off of Signature Aviation's ramp for taking pictures of it (despite being badged at IAD), but the RAF didn't seem to mind.

Saw/heard the VC-10 for the last time today as the RAF are decommissioning them to be replaced by the A330 based Voyager ( ).

They don't make them like that any more.

Oh and to join in on the 747...ugly? Crazy talk! Can we not ban everyone who hold this belief? :P

I can't wait till the 747V2 is released as some of you may know my dad is a retired United 747-400 captain It'd be fun to fly with him if they made the shared cockpit work!

ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170

737 -  sits low, stays humble

747 - distinctive hull, has most character

757 - looks eager to get flying

767- has no soul

777 -  a very porportional, photogenic jet

787 - a beady eye'd, sleek jet

It's one of the very few aircraft with a 4 eng tail mounted configuration, save perhaps the IL-62. Have 3rd party software for FS-9 of the VC-10. It's terrible, I realize, but it's out there. I've never seen one in person. I'm sure they were quite a sight.

Kind regards

Dont know about a sight, they were certainly quite "a sound"

Funny but IMHO the 747 in general (all variants) is a very ugly aircraft.  767 and 777 both have much better lines.

You must be joking.

Thanks,

For me, NOTHING can compare to the beauty of the DC-10 and MD-11.  Two of the most gorgeous and sexiest ladies to ever fly, IMHO, of course.

I used to get butterflies and weak at the knees when I see them while spotting at the airport a long time ago.

Ya'll are like trekkies debating which Enterprise is the best looking...that would be Enterprise-A of course :Nerd: :LMAO:

When it comes to all out airplane beauty, none of those jet tubes can hold a candle to the 'Connie'...apart from maybe the Concorde. Then even beautiful tubes like the Connie take a back seat to the Spitfire and Staggerwing. For me, the Spitfire Mk IX is one of the most beautiful shapes to ever be airborne. Perfect balance of beautiful lines, muscle, sound, performance, agility, harmonized controls, and function. Watching a Spitfire 'dance' at an airshow is always a treat.

As far as the jet tubes go, Concorde is the most beautiful. It is so elegant and different. A lot of the good looking designs came from the that period such as the DC-8, Caravelle, VC-10, 727 and such. After that generation, everything became quite generic. There are only so many ways you can dress up a tube.

Form follows function. The Starship and King Air are good examples. Starship is a beauty queen, while the King Air is a workhorse...guess which one pays the bills lol.

Cheers

In my humble opinion, one simply cannot talk about the beautiful airliners without talking about DC3.

Now, when it comes to what I think are the most beautiful machines ever made, it's a really close call between Spitfire and Catalina ;-)

I don't like CRJs. The only international airline in my country replaced all of it's 737 fleet with CRJ900ERs. And now they're replacing them with ERJs.

I find the 727 and the 757 to be the most graceful looking aircraft Boeing has produced. Anyone who thinks the "Guppy" (737) is better looking than a 757 is out of their minds !!!!! LOL!!!!

Kind regards.

Well then, by all means, consider me out of my mind!!

747-8 most elegant and most beautiful plane in the world in my opinion.

Couldn't agree with you more....Actually I can!! Civil, Military, spacecraft, rotorcraft, glider....of Every flying machine made by man. The 747-8 is simply the most beautiful
