I don't agree with Alain on very much, but on this one I agree completely.

Should doesn't mean won't. Should means their is a high probability it will.

I never said it did. What I said was, there's no guarantee all V1.4/FSX models will work in V2.0.

What's your point?

"simmer-logic"™ Did you patent that trademark Scott? It's a good one.

Workin' on it!

The two things I'd like to see added to sim scenery...trains and church steeples.  I'd love to see trains rolling along the country sides down below.

Heya Gregg,

First time I fired up XP10 at my reference airport, KTTD Portland Troutdale, I was blown away - there was big train running on the tracks that are next to the airport.

Wasn't enough to keep me involved with XP10, but it was pretty damn impressive!

Registration is closed, what I'm confused about is why my developer license that I pay monthly does NOT entitle me to the Beta?  Seems a little "odd" to me?

That is not the place to get on the beta list. Note this key phrase on that page:

If you are confirmed to be on the closed beta test list...

In other words, one must already be on the "closed beta test list" prior to filling out that page and essentially "electronically signing" the NDA. Once confirmed, then a download link and key will be provided via email.

I have been reading this forum with interest, if only because I jumped ship to P3D over the Labor Day weekend and haven't looked back (although I have to admit I do miss DX10). I could have rebuilt FSX, but my thinking was look to the future, not the past.

There have been a number of hints to that future over the last 6 to 8 months. Multiple companies, Orbx and Carenado being the most obvious, have "embraced" P3D. To my thinking, this suggests that they have been involved in pre-beta testing of P3D V2, know that it will be a "really good thing", and want to be on board when it comes out.

When A2A comes on board, you know P3D V2 will be a really good thing...   :)

I am sooooo looking forward to Christmas this year!

Ok, so if I understand you correctly:

1.  Developer license doesn't automatically get an invite to "the closed beta"

2.  LM select who they want on "closed beta"

3.  "closed beta" doesn't really mean the Beta list is closed

Seems a strange way to get existing beta testers to sign an NDA ... why not just mass mail list of active Beta testers since they are a known group?

Oh crap, I put my name in and registred for nothing then.

Guys, let's just drop it. This speculation is going to keep us from enjoying what we have now. It's kind of like when I was waiting for the PMDG T7, I never opened FSX for months because of the wait.

so PMDG has said no to P3D and have pointed to XP for their future.

Is this pure conjecture?  Boy I hope this happens.  Next it would great to see a composite or open source project to populate world airports w/ reasonably appropriate buildings.

DX11 is good at doing this and can cache into it's own VRAM reducing VAS usage considerably.

Rob, does having more video ram matter more than having multiple GPUs (or just more GPU processing power) insofar as the issue of 'cacheing into it's own VRAM...'?  I'm using Titan so this would be nice to know.  If you're using Titan, do you have a driver preference?  All seems great now but just curious.

The rest of my post you didn't quote was my point.

There was talk of them doing a simpler aircraft for XP10 but I haven't heard anything since.

I wouldn't expect the NGX or 777 anytime soon though.

I think few simmers (as a %) use PMDG. They are vocal and I am sure it's a good product but I doubt they form the catalyst as to what sim will be popular or not.

If this were really true, then P3D 1.4 would be going like a trooper, but that doesn't appear to be the case. I see lots of posts from people indicating that 1.4 is just like FSX (and maybe it is, I don't have it) so they won't change, or I'm only a PMDG flyer so I won't change, than anything else. Yes it has a following, but people aren't flocking to it.

V2 may be the catalyst people need to make the switch, I don't know. I'm waiting to see what it brings.

People aren't going to flock to P3D 2.0 any more than they flocked to XP10. Most people have both a monetary and psychological investment in FSX. It's like an old friend or really, more like your 80 year old crazy quirky uncle. It's brand loyalty and not logic that keeps many people from switching to P3d or XP10 . I have all three sims. P3d is more reliable than FSX (it hardly ever crashes for me, unless I get bored and start messing around with NI). But in my opinion that's not enough for most people to spend the cash to buy P3d. Besides, there's still a few 3rd party developers who won't produce a product for P3d. It doesn't matter what their reasons for that are. XP10 is also more stable, but it doesn't have the breadth of 3rd party add ons to make it a viable competitor. I bought it a while ago. Initially I used it a lot and was impressed with the smoothness and the intuitive UI design. But I eventually wandered back to FSX and then P3d with their collective stable of 3rd party add ons.

There just isn't a perfect flight sim out there and there may never be, at least for Windows and the PC platform. So what's left? Wait for XP11 for Android? They are still at XP9. There's DCS for combat, if you like that kind of thing. Lastly there's P3d 2.0. It will be better than P3d 1.4. That's a given or else LM will can the whole lot of their P3d programmers, just like MS did to ACES. What people don't realize is that LM probably licensed the ESP code for the same reasons that BMW bought Land Rover about 20 years ago. BMW wanted the 4WD technology and that seemed like a good way to acquire it. LM wants to build better and more realistic military and commercial simulators. It was a great idea on LM's part to acquire a licence for the ESP codebase. And maybe the average flight simmer will get something out of it also. That remains to be seen.

People aren't going to flock to P3D 2.0 any more than they flocked to XP10. .

P3dv2 will not be like jumping to xplane, though. This is the same simulator we're all "in love with and can't leave", but upgraded to fit our modern hardware. Something we've all wanted?? I think so! You can't tell me with a straight face that a new and improved, basically FSX, would not attract many FSX users whatsoever.

It just depends on what sort of value-added components are present.  Right now we just really don't know.  If version 2 ends up showing significant performance gains from better offloading to GPU, increasing available VAS and some maybe some better visuals thru accessing more advanced graphical  APIs in DX11 by all means people could definitely flock.  I do still hold out some hope for XPlane 11, or at least the full cadre of airport buildings and yes I have to have the PMDG T7 it's blithering amazing...but I digress
