Very well put. I also had stated previously that LM has an excellent background and has shown it's commitment to quality, and I have seen this first hand in other areas of the company. I think that this commitment will be also be apparent in the 2.0 release. With that said, it does not mean that every nook and cranny and desire of every simmer is going to be fulfilled, but I believe we are dealing with a group of engineers that will do it justice.

Bob

I agree with you.

I'm not concerned about the feature set because that will grow over time. I'm also not greatly concerned regarding compatibility with current FSX/P3D or even FSX only add-ons. Again, these will evolve and grow over time. That said, I do believe that LM are intelligent enough to realise that its important to offer diversity and choice to their market which they seem to be doing by offering the SDK and openly encouraging the developer network.

I don't believe the argument that people can't do without (a) or (b) and can't live without (x) as valid. Time and time again this has been proved to be unsubstantiated. Examples of why they can, and do, are far too numerous to mention.

I feel that LM ARE dedicated to offering the best and most stable platform which will allow them the best advantage in the market place they are aiming for. I have also seen mention that it might not have this feature or that feature. Again this is speculation, individuals that post such guess work may simply thrive on the attention. Besides they would be breaking their NDA with LM. Anyway, as far as LM is concerned, why release a trainer that you can't use for training? It's pure business suicide.

Granted, V2.0 may not have everything that the entertainment market wants, but its not aimed at that market as far as I'm aware.

As all the post in this thread starting with the German website leak, if real, we just have to wait and see I guess.

I totally agree with Brian. Also noticeable is the interest from 3PDs. And not just a passing interest. The list is growing and probably alot more involved than we are allowed to know. Its what makes a great core simulation successful.

Look at Xplane which has alot of positives at its core, but there is small notice from expanding it. The compatibility issue will most likely be resolved quickly with patches as the foundation of addons should run being that many are becoming more and more dx10 which means dx11 as well.

That list mentions features that will be implemented in future releases, which indicates their commitment. I cant see this as failing and would have to agree that putting this much resources into it, they want to have a significant improvement over the previous in order to attract the market. Be it commercial enterprises, or the casual simmer. Actually I think its the casual home simmer that drives the enthusiasm for it with the purchase of addons and its this ferver that gets the attention of corporations to adapt to the commercial market. The more the community gets excited the more it inspires all involved be it LM developers or the beta testers from 3PDs. Heck we are post #288 in just a few days.

I wonder if there will be a client for connecting to VATSIM.

it is a very important tool that many of us overlooked.

we are all talking about PMDG, Scenery compatibility and others, but I did not see any mention

on VATSIM compatibility, both Client side and Server side.

I do all my flights Online, it will be a real bummer to find out I can no longer do them online with P3D v2.

Wouldn't get my hopes up. These are the kinds of features LM have ignored in the past. We must not forget that LM isn't a software entertainment company. P3D is tailored towards professional training, and features important to the home simmer might not be profitable for LM to develop.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

My guess is that EZDoc will be one of the apps to fall by the wayside.  If P3D's own view system isn't to that quality, I hope someone can make a standalone replacement.

I fear that since P3P 1.4 was a hand-me-down FSX with not that much dev,...

that the new v2 pricetag will be substantial....?

I would think that with the SDK and the new 64 bit tools there is plenty invitation to have all kinds of addons, and im sure that Vatsim and other ACARS systems will make sure the p3d v2 will work if it becomes mainstream enough.

Alot of the weather programs already do P3d and opus has a camera system.

I haven't heard many good things about that.  Puzzles me why a wx app would have camera views integrated.

No, DX11 wil NOT eliminate this limit, any 32bit app will be bound to the 3gb limit. Its only 3gb that is available for VAS and not 4gb.

Only on a 32bit OS, on 64bit OS the limit is 4GB VAS. The benefit of DX10/DX11 as far as VAS goes, is unlike DX9. The App doesn't have to make a copy of the video memory address space, freeing up VAS for the APP, but the limit is still 4GB, (3GB on a 32bit OS system) and not 1 bit more. Note: You can still Oom before hitting that limit. Since address space needs to be contiguous, if a call to allocate space is larger then the largest contiguous space available then you will Oom. It comes down to how well the APP, cleans up after itself, to determine how far you can get before running into trouble!!

Thanks

Also noticeable is the interest from 3PDs

The 3rd party developers fall into three camps:

1. "Our product is designed for  both FSX and P3d and we provide official support to users of both sims."

2. "Our product is designed for FSX." (But if you use it with P3d, we don't really care, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Just don't ask us for official support).

3. "Our product is designed for FSX and we've done something to either the code or the installer that blocks its use with P3d."

Most products now fall into the first two categories and I will speculate that the same will be true for P3d 2.0.

@jabloomf1230

I believe you are spot on it.

nothing as been said about what they may have took away though

I'll venture a guess and say FTX Global and all the Open LC stuff.

Because:

Orbx had to get permission from MS to make changes to the core files which are different to the SDK docs, and significant changes have been made for FTX Global. They'll need the same permissions and need to make similar changes for FTX Global to work. Maybe LM won't entertain this.

Or:

Orbx have convinced LM to make those changes and more, and now only their stuff will work, or their stuff will be the base scenery for the entire V2 world.

Now there's a radical thought.

Just want to clarify, I have and do maintenance programming work (I don't like it and I think most programmers prefer starting from a fresh new plate) ... over the years I have inherited products that needed significant updates, in some cases it took me 9-12 months just to get comfortable understanding most of the code (well over 500,000 lines of code) -- just understanding and not actually producing updates/changes.  So it's not surprising to see LM take over the ESP and not make huge changes up to v1.4 -- but I'm certain MUCH has been learned.  I can appreciate the effort that goes into inheriting code and having to change it for the better.

So, I hope at no point I trivialized the work LM must be putting into P3D V2.  I do await it's release and can be patient ... I'm sure it will come soon enough and we can all stop the speculation.  In the meantime, I'm enjoying all the 1000's of "yet to be discovered" aspects of FSX and all my 3rd party products.
