Prepar3d V2.0 entering beta

Featured Replies

My guess is that EZDoc will be one of the apps to fall by the wayside.  If P3D's own view system isn't to that quality, I hope someone can make a standalone replacement.

you should give OPUS a try, and they support P3D now so I'm guessing they will in the future

Sorry did not realise someone already mentioned it, anyway I do not know where you heard things but I like the cameras more then EZDOC

I've still got hopes for the next version. I check back every few months on their forums to see if things have progressed on the major issues that stop me from buying it. So far no dice.

Until P3D V2.0 is released none of can know what will, or will not, be included in it. That's why I shall wait until it's actually released before making a decision.

I haven't heard many good things about that.  Puzzles me why a wx app would have camera views integrated.

Its pretty good. Its not perfect but is quite versatile. Why a WX app has it? No idea. Cause they can?

makes it a good added value bonus.

I'll venture a guess and say FTX Global and all the Open LC stuff.

Because:

Orbx had to get permission from MS to make changes to the core files which are different to the SDK docs, and significant changes have been made for FTX Global. They'll need the same permissions and need to make similar changes for FTX Global to work. Maybe LM won't entertain this.

Or:

Orbx have convinced LM to make those changes and more, and now only their stuff will work, or their stuff will be the base scenery for the entire V2 world.

Now there's a radical thought.

Nope, nothing to do with Orbx, but since you mentioned them..  http://forum.avsim.net/topic/420557-orbx-textures-to-replace-utx-custom-ones/page-3

Quote" 2. Orbx has written permission from MS in 2007 to modify core FSX files as long as they are backed up and switched. That's what we do, so whilst we do things outside the SDK in some instances (which we must do to make FTX anyway), we are within the bounds of the permission we got from ACES. End of argument on that one.end of quote...

Where is the switcher in FTXG?

Lets keep it a P3D discussion.

And they can tie it to their weather to add some features that that allows

I wonder if there will be a client for connecting to VATSIM.

it is a very important tool that many of us overlooked.

we are all talking about PMDG, Scenery compatibility and others, but I did not see any mention

on VATSIM compatibility, both Client side and Server side.

I do all my flights Online, it will be a real bummer to find out I can no longer do them online with P3D v2.

The new pilot client in development says it will support p3d if that means v2.0 I'm not sure.

Where is the switcher in GEX? You don't switch "base" textures. We didn't expect it for GEX, we shouldn't for FTXG.

Two of the more active threads during the past few days somewhat illuminate the state of flight simulation. This thread demonstrates that some members of the community are eager to see P3d 2.0, probably because A ) it will have some updated code that might make it more stable/efficient and B ) it might be compatible with most of the add-ons for FSX.

The other thread is about  the Windows library, uiautomationcore.dll. Apparently, some 3rd party add-on installer silently replaced one Windows Vista version (that users had added to the FSX folder to stop menu crashes in Windows 7) with a slightly later Windows Vista version of the library. Seriously? What other software requires that you take a system file from Vista and use it in Windows 7? All this demonstrates to me is that FSX is finally in its death throes. These kind of patches, tweaks and workarounds represent a challenge for those of us who like to tinker with their computers. But for the average simmer, it is just an annoyance. This situation reminds me of these New Years cartoons from the newspapers:

Well based on the second scenario I sure hope that scenario one 'might make it more stable/efficient' would actually say will make it more stable. Other wise why go through all this trouble of working so hard on v2 not to mention its a whole version # upgrade. I think that was a major goal to accomplish for this version.

OMG tweak simulator aka FSX might be standing on its last legs if all this pans out. You mean we will actually be able to fly instead of tweak/test cycle half the time?  lol

No Planes - probably not

No Airports - probably not

No Weather - possible, but probably not

No ATC - now there's a contender

Heuu! why quoting only a part of my post,, that's the deal they have with MS, what does GEX as to do between Orbx and MS deal?

Still, no cigar.

You never know about the first release of a new version. There are so many permutations of hardware and software out there that could potentially run P3d, you have to think that a new version would make some people unhappy. Look at the DX10 fixer. There is a small group of people who can't get it work right. It's inevitable.

But I agree with you on the tweaking part. It's getting pretty old to have to fool around with the CFG file and the NI.  I feel like doing all this is equivalent to putting headers on a 1972 VW Beetle.

So you are saying you know what wont be there and he hasn't got it right yet?   Are you saying he hasn't guessed what you guess might be missing?

Why not tell us what you know or think you know?   You must think something to tell someone they are wrong on specific points.

Agree, it's a stretch to expect an end user to have to go thru all the many hoops to get FSX to work to one's hopes/expectation.  One has to be very dedicated ... the fact so many FSX'ers still exist is amazing.  There is clearly something very special about flight that so many are willing to tolerate so much.

If P3D V2 can pull off a flight simulator that is smart enough to configure itself to work with an end user's hardware, they'll probably bring back a huge market of casual simmers that left because of FSX configuration complexity ... while at the same time retaining those who want to learn the complexity of flight and aircraft systems and not the complexity of their computer.

The purpose has always been to learn about flight, not one's FSX.CFG, DLL.XML, EXE.XML, NVidia Inspector, etc. etc. etc.

This is really exciting news for us all. I read most of the thread(excluding pages 10-14) and on what i read i didnt see any posts about GPUs. We all know Nvidia is the GPU for FSX, now i wonder with this version of P3D coming if AMD cards will be fair game and just as powerful as Nvidias. It seems theyre about to launch a new crown owner in the GPU world.

Any takers?

All in all, this is great. Knowing that maybe ill be able to run a flight sim on 3 1440p screens and not have to worry about frames per second. We shall wait and see.
