Prepar3d V2.0 entering beta

The purpose has always been to learn about flight, not one's FSX.CFG, DLL.XML, EXE.XML, NVidia Inspector, etc. etc. etc.

Totally agree but it did get me thinking...

Spending as much time, if not more tweaking I wonder how much less traffic and conversations this will remove from the forums? I also wonder how much the tweaking side has helped this community to grow?

Let's face it, with FSX we are never totally satisfied and there's always that feeling in the back of your mind that maybe if I try such and such I'll eek out another 2/3 FPS. If your a long time FSXer tweaking and playing with the computer is a habit and I wonder how we'll all manage to live without getting our tweaking fix haha.

Not trying to hijack this thread but perhaps we should consider setting up a help forum for those in withdrawal if P3D lives up to expectations. :)

The new pilot client in development says it will support p3d if that means v2.0 I'm not sure.

do you know the name of the client you referring to?

or who makes it?

I want to read more about it if you don't mind.

Heuu! why quoting only a part of my post,, that's the deal they have with MS, what does GEX as to do between Orbx and MS deal?

"permission from MS in 2007 to modify core FSX files as long as they are backed up and switched."

The switcher is essentially the uninstaller, as far as FTXG concerned. They needed an on the fly switcher for the regions, because the user needed the ability  to go back to the FS default to fly in the rest of the world. FTXG changed that, now it's all or nothing. The same thing essentially applies to GEX. Being that the base textures could in itself be considered "Core files" I would venture to guess that GEX developers had a similar agreement with Aces, to provide an uninstaller that would restore the original textures.

Thanks

I haven't heard many good things about that. Puzzles me why a wx app would have camera views integrated.

Personal opinion, the opus camera system is head and shoulders above Ezdok and it's already p3d compatible.

The camera system ties perfectly into the weather. I'm not sure why it seems odd?

Hi Glenn,

Maybe the people that said it wasn't as good were biased or it's a taste thing.  I've never tried it...I have REX and Active Sky.  I like Active Sky so, if I got Opus I wouldn't use it for wx...just the views, which is kinda where the comment comes from.  I wouldn't use it to look at wx as much as just to help me fly and adjust controls.  I'm not sure if there's a way to shut Opus wx off and just use the views.

Tom,

The quote I posted came directly from JV, you can't have a better source then that about Orbx own deal with MS right? That's the deal they have, no mention of a uninstaller in his quote or else as long as the files are backed up  and switched, the files are backed up but without a switcher like they had for the regions since FTXG, nothing else was mentioned about "Yes but, and because of" in his quote.

I have GEX and there is a "enable, disable" switch for all of their regions in the control panel, I call that a switcher.

Again, lets keep it about P3D.

No ATC - now there's a contender

That is what I'd suspect.

I agree Alain! Let's do keep it about P3D, vs. what's "moral", "legal", "permissible", "violation", "granted" or any other business that has nothing to do with us as customers.

So you are saying you know what wont be there and he hasn't got it right yet?   Are you saying he hasn't guessed what you guess might be missing?

Why not tell us what you know or think you know?   You must think something to tell someone they are wrong on specific points.

I should have been a little more clear, I did not say he was wrong or right, what I should have said is that his post is not what I'm talking about, because of one of the thing LM took away this will create a problem with something else, here is a clue and the only one you will all get Orbmu2k.

Ain't saying anything else.

+1 Eric, I agree with you 100%, I am waiting for LM to change their licensing so I can get on the bandwagon (read entertainment), so since I am not a customers..........

You can shut off the weather engine and just use the cameras, however, the full effect of the cameras are tied into the weather engine. Unlike ezdok which makes random 'sine wave' style effects based on general movement and has some DHM effects tied to weather, the Opus views react specifically to the prevailing weather conditions and also are recorded using accelerometer data from real aircraft. In my own opinion, having used both, Opus camera effects are more realistic, certainly when compared to what I have experienced in my real world hours.

Everyone has thier own opinion on this though of course.

Anyway, in terms of this thread, the fact that it already supports P3D is a big win / bonus.

You will be waiting a long time. I dont think that will ever happen.

'Entertainment' in my personal view is for titles like FIFA 14, GTA V, Modern Warfare etc plus the fact you can buy them off the shelf at big box retailers and drug stores etc.

P3D will never be in this category, and again, in my personal opinion, if you are here on AVSIM, you are not using FSX as a 'game' per se.

To me, Flight Simulation has always been about education and the possibility of expanding into real world aviation experiences, something I feel the academic and or Pro license fits perfectly with.

My only conundrum is if I should get academic or pro. The argument about wether I am entitled to use it at all is complete nonsense as far as I am concerned.

Roll on V2.0

The only addons devs that will / have been getting my cash recently are the ones who are supporting P3D. I may be a drop in the ocean but I have been at this for 20+ years now so I am sure there are plenty more who will agree that P3D is the way forward.

Well based on the second scenario I sure hope that scenario one 'might make it more stable/efficient' would actually say will make it more stable. Other wise why go through all this trouble of working so hard on v2 not to mention its a whole version # upgrade. I think that was a major goal to accomplish for this version.

OMG tweak simulator aka FSX might be standing on its last legs if all this pans out. You mean we will actually be able to fly instead of tweak/test cycle half the time?  lol

That will certainly not happen: I am sure that LM puts enough features in 2.0 that it can easily bring the hardware of todays systems to its knees. So then we will see unhappy and complaining users and again tweak here and work around there to make it nice and smooth ...

And by the way: My impression is that for many users tweaking, installing, testing, adding new add-ons, tweaking, testing, etc. is at least half of the fun using FSX/P3D.

I don't know Glenn, all I know is that the deal between MS and LM was for LM not to enter the entertainment business so I guess FSX was tagged as entertainment by MS, I may be wrong and will gladly stand corrected if I am.
