Prepar3d V2.0 entering beta

There was a story about a very successful business man who always took perspective management employees to lunch, but always made sure that it was at a restaurant where the perpective employee had never eaten. The boss wanted to see if the perspective employee salted his/her food before tasting it. I always thought that was an interesting prequal as it very well could provide some important information about that persons critical thinking ability.

People aren't switching to XP10 because it lacks major features that the FS series has had for a decade. I'd love to switch to XP10 but it's just missing way too much. That and I (and many others) can't stand the plausible world system.

Because P3D is built on the base feature set of FSX/ESP, the temptations to switch without losing much will be greater.

Yes, I totally agree with this statement. If XP10 had the same features weve had for a decade, then I think more folks would be on board. But, to be fair, XP10 is a lot better than the prev. versions.

Same thing on the plausible world. Ditto.

Flight1 is already working with LM and 3PD. Take a look here:

You are free to draw your own conclusions, of course.

Not strictly true though Tom.

Ifly have made the choice to support P3D. F1 have not. They are simply the publisher for Ifly.

Ok, so tell us what P3D 2.0 is going to be like and what features will be missing. At least with Flight we had major cause for concern through direct quotes leading up to release, so it wasn't like you or others were psychic.

What do you suspect will be removed? You must have suspicions based on your post.

You seem like a nice guy. I just don't get the constant needing to rain on people's parades. If you have something to substanciate your negativity shown in this thread (and every P3D thread for that matter), then I'm all ears. At the end of the day we play computer games in a highly niche market with little advancement. I say let people get excited when something cool is coming because it doesn't happen that often. If it turns out to suck they'll be plenty of time to cry over it then.

Bonchie, since when does a comment become negative if true, I can understand your position "cause" you don't know what will be taken away or if I'm full of it and because it's coming from me you are suspicious of the validity of my comments, fair enough,, but it does not mean I'm lying, I also did not say that P3D will suck, let just say that some utility will not have full functionality anymore, I know it's not much to go on but I can't tell more.

Not always according to my wife....

Edit: What I said may change but that's what it is as of now.

I've still got hopes for the next version. I check back every few months on their forums to see if things have progressed on the major issues that stop me from buying it. So far no dice.

For those that are not Beta Testers, it's all speculation and really and truly, even for them it *could* be speculation simply because we know from past interviews with ACES members that there were some really neat features that was in the beta, but was pulled before RTM. Cloud shadows is one of those items.

There's nothing wrong with speculation, as well as with trying to temper & gauge folks' expectations. I tend to believe that LM is going to release a very nice product with v2.0, although it's fair to say that nothing will ever be the "end-all/say-all" for every user. Let's get on board as much as we can and support this! Bickering and constant armchair attorney comments will not get us anywhere. I'm super excited to see what's coming down the road and if all the bits and pieces we are hearing so far is true, then I feel most folks will be very pleased.

This being the unofficial P3D forum I hope I can get help for an unsupported product from colleagues. I miss my PMDG 747 X and my MD 11 X. I will for ever be indebted to anyone who can tell me how to tweak the localiser to work. Everything is ok but the map display shows the aircraft to the right of the runway even when it's on the threshold on the ground. After take-off it flies the LNAV correctly until on approach it captures the ILS. The localiser initially centres and then slowly moves off and remains off centre until it stops being solid and the plane lands off the runway (unless a go around is initiated. Someone mentioned that the aircraft work on P3D with some tweaks. Can anyone please help me?

My personal email didnt work, I'll try my company email address to see if I get accepted!

Thanks Eric, I was about to add my own thoughts about some of the divisiveness that I just waded through in this thread . . . but you summed it up better than I likely would have.

Personally, I'm excited to see that version 2.0 is not as far off as I feared. I finally have a computer that can run these flightsims well. So far, I've installed X-Plane 10, DCS (BlackShark 1) and MS Flight.  I own FSX, but didn't even want to deal with it, because I'm going to purchase P3D just as soon as version 2.0 is available. We should all be happy that P3D is moving forward and improving (even if most of the details are not really known at this point).

nothing as been said about what they may have took away though...

What did LM do to you did they "took" away your candy bar as a child or something?

We need a list of software that is not going to work with P3D 2.0.  Everyone's talking about PMDG and Flight1 is...um...up in the air.  Also, I've heard RealityXP.  I wonder what else.

Well, first P3D 2.0 has to reach RTM... A bit to early to specualte about anything when we know nothing.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Lets only deal with a couple of facts... They have said that its an improvement over the FLIGHT engine and uses D3DX11. To be honest, by saying so little they have said a lot so it is unimportant what the feature set is at this point in time.

The fact that its a v2.0 and supports D3DX11 speaks volumes. when a developer switches to a new version number out of sequence its because there has been a substantial change. Now, regardless of whether the 'list' is genuine or not, the fact it uses D3DX11 means there 'has' been a re-write of the core engine. Lets just imagine it simply offers a large increase in FPS and a stutter and popping free sim when compared to FSX that you can fly instead of tweak constantly. Is that worth anything? However, re-writing the core is simply the foundation on which to build a feature rich product. Once the hard things have been accomplished, you add as much as you can to make it glossy so you can have a rich feature list. It's what attracts sales, and is why your in business.

Considering that LM have said its more advanced than the FLIGHT engine will in itself quite simply blow the socks of FSX. The current version of P3D is basically FSX. Its not a game changer, yes it has some small advantages for the simmer but for the majority not enough to switch considering the effort involved. V2.0 has the ability to change the landscape completely.

At this point in time we only know a few important facts, and after 7/8 years i feel the earthquake is actually about to hit. There have been far too many pointers to be uncertain. One example, why has 2013 has been such a good year?

Interesting times ahead.

Very well put. I also had stated previously that LM has an excellent background and has shown it's commitment to quality, and I have seen this first hand in other areas of the company. I think that this commitment will be also be apparent in the 2.0 release. With that said, it does not mean that every nook and cranny and desire of every simmer is going to be fulfilled, but I believe we are dealing with a group of engineers that will do it justice.

Also, I've heard RealityXP.

The "simTainment" version of RXP - which is what FSX users run - does not work in P3D today, so I doubt anything will change for v2.  There is purported to be a professional version for "Microsoft ESP" that may (or may not) run, but I've no idea what it costs and no idea how to find out.  It's a "contact us" pricing deal, and I've never heard of anyone receiving  a response on inquiry.
