Prepar3d V2.0 entering beta

Recommended Posts

Wouldint dx11 requirement be if would have to be 64 bit compatible? I mean dx11 sure as hell would use more than 4gb vas? No? Correct me if Im wrong please

From the LM website: 32-bit is a minimum requirement, 64-bit recommended. DX11 required (DX10 not supported).

I'm hoping November timeframe - that's based on their previous cycles and the beta to RTM timeframes of 1.2/3/4. Development for 2.0 was occurring in parallel with 1.4 based on LM and JV from FTX's comments last year.

From the website (just to let everyone know regarding release schedule)

Looking like before the end of this year

The beta testing phase is time limited – each beta testing license will tentatively expire on 11/01/2013 or when v2 is released commercially, whichever date comes sooner. Findings and feedback are required to be reported on the Prepar3D v2 beta testing subforum (locked forum protected by the PIA and limited use license above). Distribution or communication of feedback on Prepar3D v2 in any other manner is in direct violation of the PIA and limited use license.

We appreciate your support and look forward to hearing your feedback on Prepar3D v2! We have continuously evolved Prepar3D based on community feedback and will continue to do so in the future. We wanted to let you know that while we are working towards the 4th quarter 2013 commercial release, there are no guarantees that Lockheed Martin will implement any of the individual Beta findings or consider any findings a requirement for the 4th quarter 2013 commercial release.

Isnt that asking for trouble? Some people run out of memory using dx9 32bit... Not making much sense to me?

Its talking about windows 7 64 bit vs 32 bit windows 7 just in case you got that confused.

Not sure if I read your posts correctly. But Prepard3d 64 bit is quite likely a long ways off still because of the difficulty it presents. They had no plans to make this 64 bit. But DX11 and squash bugs as well as better memory management, multi threading.

Well chaps, we were the first Flight Sim website to publish an interview with the LM P3D team, so we will try to do a follow up for you.

Lot of naysayers saying it was going to be 3-4 more years don't look so smart now.

Great news on the beta ending in November.

Hi,

The beta may not end in November, so don't get your hopes up too much.  A beta license renewal may be required at that time and not necessarily the end of beta testing.

Although, P3D 2.0 for Christmas would be nice...

Perhaps but they seem pretty dead set on releasing it at the end of the year.

To go as far as to say that nothing found in the beta is guaranteed to be in the 4th quarter commercial release tells me they want to get it out by then. Of course if they hit major snags then that can all change.

No. LM has already stated on their official message board that version 2.0 would not be 64 bit. DX11 has nothing to do with whether the app is 32 or 64 bit. In fact, DX11 compatible video cards generally are more versatile and will take over a lot of what the CPU does in DX9 and DX10.

It's interesting that John V. recently made a comment that they do not have a copy of the P3d 2.0, but maybe he was just adhering to the NDA. I had a feeling that once the price of the DX10 Fixer was announced at $32, that P3D 2.0 would be just around the corner. Isn't that always the way things happen? :fool:

No. It will still be 32 bit. As far as DX11 goes it will be better on VAS usage than DX9. My understanding is that in DX9 part of the video memory is required to be mapped into the programs VAS space whereas DX10 and later it is not (I'm no programmer just gleaned this from some MS whitepapers)

So it should use less of the VAS than FSX but only the devs know what other changes are under the hood that may impact VAS.
