Anyone with experience of Earth Simulations?

I agree from the SS Andy, with a normal installer and a server not working on steam power I think I would buy the lot.

Frustrating.

I for one can say I love all the products and have them all installed,

some of them take time right enough,

and bed time is a good time to download whilst asleep for the bigger ones.

All the sceneries are impressive though to say the least.

1 or 2 issues to install, but I had help in the same day as my requests, so cannot grumble there.

I hope Darren & Vicki both keep producing more scenery to brighten up FSX

EGLC is a dreadful / fun (delete as required) approach, i have attempting to land there 5 times in the Q400 and ended up nose into the tarmac on 4 attempts, i don't count the last time, the mouse froze on me so i followed the ILS into the ground.

I think you need to do some research on the London City approach, I'm sure you need a special license for landing. I think the glide slope is 6deg not the normal 3deg. There was documentary on tele  a couple years back and I remember one of the pilots saying it was like nose diving into the tarmac.

I own all of the earth simulations sceneries and can honestly say I've never had any problems installing or downloading them. ESI their installer actually worked fine for me but I didn't exactly find it's interface very intuitive :P

I've only had to ask for support once over a dx10 issue but I got an answer quick enough and with sufficient detail to fix it :)

IOM is IMO their best product yet, well worth the price and the most accurate and comprehensive piece of scenery I've yet seen done for FSX. Seasonal photorealistic textures throughout with full autogen, sounds, multiple airfields...

I'm really sorry for those users who seem to have had problems, but it's not been my experience. I would also be wary about expecting an immediate support response in seconds, like the developer already posted, they aren't Microsoft with billion $$ budgets and staff complements to match, they are a husband and wife team doing a great job for the benefit of out hobby. My simming is my hobby and I keep realistic and smart expectations about it :) Besides, the devs post seems pretty fair, he'll support you if there are probs, and a no quibble refund if you want it. Can't say fairer than that in my world!

Cheers k

  • 2 months later...

I have just fired up the ESI and it finished the 12.9GB download/install of IOM...

I fired up FSX to find that the ES version of IOM is not even listed in the scenery database. I started a repair install to see if that might help, but I see that it started downloading the whole thing again... That is going to be 25Gb of traffic in one day... fun indeed...

I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I have not experienced such an install method. OrbX gets it right with such data packages...

I am now trying to make a local ESI pack and see if I can fathom out what this system is doing. If it breaks my FSX install, I will be very annoyed indeed...

It should have downloaded and then installed automatically, Andrew (assuming that you made sure to let the installer know exactly where your copy of FSX is installed). What exactly happened after the download was complete?

I must admit, I looked at Treescapes, Scillies, Guernsey and IOM and was put off by comments I had read about the installer and the price of buying all of them.  However, I'm now in the process of using FSET to create photoscenery of the Channel Islands, Scillies and IOM, but this is the easy bit.

Using SbuilderX and Terrabuilder to create holes and produce custom mesh (free DEM for the area is very poor) is a big learning curve, but I think I'm getting there - slowly.

I have tracked down the issue as being a problem with scenery.cfg files. I use SCE to structure and load only those sceneries I wisdh to fly around (in order to reduce the loading of potentially conflicting or unnecessary scenery issues).

The ES entries were appended to another scenery.cfg present in the FSX root directory but NOT the one used in ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX, which is the file that FSX seems to use by default and is the one indexed by SCE...

Glad you found the solution quickly, And you're up and flying :) Tell us what you think of the scenery when you've had a chance to fly it? :) K

Yes, I would be interested to know what you think, Andrew. As for Ian......you really are missing out on some phenomenal scenery.

First impressions are good... I have not altered my setup but it runs well with a default Cessna (quick look around to see if it worked).

I want to explore a little more with a leg or two into and out of EGNS in the Q400... need to dig out the charts!

Dear All

We are very upset to see that some of our past customers are not happy with our efforts. This is really not what we want to see and we would like to explain our position.

Earth Simulations may appear to many to be a large company with vast resources at its disposal. This is not the case and in fact we are a very small company consisting of only two people (husband and wife team) aiming to produce the very best scenery possible. We work very hard to cover all aspects of our business to the best of our ability and always try our best to help anybody that comes to us for help and support. We are usually able to resolve any issues quickly and efficiently. Ultimately of course if a customer is not satisfied (which is rare) they will be reimbursed without quibble.

Our main skills are in developing the sceneries that we sell online. Our sceneries are extremely time consuming and complicated to produce. We aim high!.  ES sceneries are complex by any standard and this perhaps does lead to the installation being far more difficult to accomplish successfully, even for the most experienced installer programmer. Neither Vikki or I  have skills of the type needed to build installers for our complex sceneries, which is why we outsourced this task to a qualified programmer. We fully acknowledge our limitations which is why we paid a lot of money to the third party to have ESI developed for us.

Despite the comments in this thread the overwhelming majority of our customers have no problems when using ESI to install our sceneries. However we are painfully aware that some of you have taken a strong dislike to ESI, so we are in the process of collaborating with another developer to address this problem. It is some consolation to note that your complaints are restricted to the installer only, and that everyone seems happy enough with the work that Vikki and I have done, i.e the scenery.

Whilst recognizing fully everything that has been said about ESI in this thread, I can't help but think that it is portraying ESI a little unfairly and is not really wholly representative. Because some readers of these comments have no experience of ESI themselves I have this afternoon made a very short video showing what ESI is, what it does, and how it works. I'd be very grateful if people would take the time to watch it before dismissing Earth Simulations ( and ESI ) out of hand.

Hello Darren,

I own almost everything that you have released and I consider your scenery among the finest and highest quality available from any developer, for FSX.  You and your wife do a fantastic job. Really, considering it's just yourself with your wife, it's quite an unbelievable job!

I just bought Guernsey and Isles of Man, and they simply take my breath away, they are so beautiful. What a delight to fly over this scenery or take off from these beautiful airports (Perfect for the Majestic Dash8 Q400).

I had no problems at all using the  ESInstaller program.  It downloaded my purchases and installed them perfectly.

I have a very fast broadband connection, so the downloads didn't take that long, and the installer worked perfectly, although I found it a little confusing to understand, at first, once I understood how to use it, I had no problems.

Those having problems, may need to remember to turn off their antivirus real time protection features, before using the program.

Please continue your excellent work.  I will be always looking for more ESI releases.

Thank you,

Bob

ES scenery is great, and the ES installer is better now.

My only complaints are that there are way too many scenery library entries (I would like to see these consolidated into one or two), even more than Orbx, and P3D support would also be appreciated.

  • 2 weeks later...

Having had re- installation problems with ESI I thought I'd get the DVD of Guernsey in anticipation of an easier life. No chance!

Followed all proceedures and the progress bar just sits there doing nothing. After 35 minutes I gave up and tried to start again. Fat chance!

If anybody has had similar problems with this DVD please let me know.

Regards,

Richard.
