FSX is absolutely awful

Many here will fight you on this issue because

Or because they don't have the issues that the OP has / had / is having.

Although I have an decent system, and have spent a bit of time tweaking, I also have a multi-purpose system that runs a ton of non-flight simulator software with a copy of win7 that hasn't been re-installed for a few years. I don't seriously (or often) overclock, and I've been very balanced about cost vs. performance when purchasing upgrades (video card notwithstanding, but that's not meant for FSX).  I fly a range of addons within FSX, from GA to military to tubeliners, over scenery that ranges from default with vector and texture upgrades, up to Orbx regions and FSDT airports.

Perhaps I've been lucky, but get to spend all of my allocated simming time worrying about nothing more than the plane I'm flying.  Everyone's mileage varies, but I've never had a reason to overly criticize FSX.

At this point, although I'm very much looking forward to future platforms (P3Dv2 included) for the graphical improvements they may bring, unfortunately no other platform can bring to the table (for me) what FSX does.  I suspect that if I were one of the unlucky ones that suffered from performance issues, or if I was devoutly interested in only one or two types of planes, I could feel differently.

In the end, ultimately it is more about whether your platform of choice allows you to do what you want to do.

Man oh man!  Rockfish season hasn't even started here near the Chesapeake Bay and some flying "fishermen" are already out trolling!

It's expected to have pushback from those who love FSX but the fact still remains it had the most crappy unfinished code since FS2000. Of course most aren't going to agree after 8 years of, hardware catching up, and proven tweaks have solved most people's issue it still was crap. P3D v2 will in the end be as trouble free to install and run as MS Flight was (or FS9 for that matter). I know your not going to agree but the point of my post is to let the OP know there's life after FSX and it's not the end all solution for those that want to get up and running in our hobby versus giving up. We have lost allot of potential simmers do to the price of admission FSX had over the years.

BTW: X-Plane and FS9 are still valid alternatives as well for those that want to get on with the business of simulating flight.

This has been my experience as well.  My system is similar and my last cost-balanced upgrade about 14 months ago was from the Radeon 6750 video card that came in the now three year old system to a blazing EVGA GTX 560ti (@ $209.00) that continues to serve me quite well.  Each time I fly in FSX I do reboot into a different user ID that loads minimum startup programs.

Honestly, the FSX issues I have faced in the past have been related to 3rd party add ons that IHMO were released too early.  I wasted a great deal of what could have been flight hours on troubleshooting my installations of those add ons.  And the worst part of it was dealing with the developers' insistence that I was the only user experiencing the reported problem(s).  Fortunately, in the end, the experience sharing in the community we have here on Avsim buried the worst of those insistence's.  And collaboration within this community made great contributions toward eliminating those issues.

Yup just fine here, and even better since I uninstalled BBS software.

Actually I agree with the OP.

I hate FSX. I use it because if I want to fly the best payware aircraft like PMDG's I have to, there's no way around it. But I believe it's horribly designed and optimized.

I still like FS2004 though, it will have a sweet place in my heart forever.

Dillon, change record.

FSX is running great, it has done since the Sandy bridge chips were released years ago which is why the addon market is doing so well.

You could not get it running well back then simply because you did not have the hardware for it, none of us did. But now especially under DX10 it runs quicker than FS9 ever did.

Hard to believe but true.

I have more issues with P3Dv2 than I do with FSX which is why I use FSX the most.

P3Dv2 will get there but it needs native addons and quickly. I have never had an OOM in FSX but cannot say the same for P3Dv2.

The same hardware will run FSX just as well as P3Dv2 with a much better selection of compatible addons, no one knows yet what a complex addon like the NGX will perform like in P3DV2 but it is not looking hopeful at this point.

Why do people even bother with this platform? It's absolutely, disgustingly bad! If it's not crashing to the desktop its lagging like a gypsy with a mortgage, if it's not doing that its having itself an epileptic stuttering fit!

This is 2014 people! Why do we continue to demand so much from such a frankly dilapidated platform. It was never designed for HD textures, high fidelity a/c, or even to run on today's hardware.

I see people spending £££ on new systems in the vain hope that these issues will simply disappear! They won't!

FSX has to be one of the most corrupt programs i have ever dealt with, not including windows (won't go there).

You spend £££ on software and FSX can't even run it without having a panic attack!

I'm soo fed up!

Works great for me along with DX10. 35 posts in 4 years and you just decided to post something?  C'mon, tell us the truth. What is really bothering you?

Officially retired

I hope this forum is a joke, yes I agree FSX is a bit horrifying on stabability, but im sticking with fsx until a 737 and more addons like fs2crew and fspassengers come out for x-plane!

May I suggest Call of Duty on the 360 for the OP; none of those problems there!

Greatest platform ever. Developers now have a platform to improve for the next 5-10 years!

Now just need a decent VR setup.

I'm not getting CTDs, nor am I lagging much, but the raw fps numbers are of course pathetic for a being an 9 year old title. The code itself is almost hopelessly outdated. We deserve better, but at the moment it's the best we got

Works great for me with pretty much no problems!  Not bad for a rubberband powered, held to gether with spit and flour, thunderbolt-grease-slapping 10 year old computer.
