"Microsoft Sells License to FS Franchise"

Featured Replies

We can not lose anything from someone attempting to revive the series. Worst case scenario: it fails...what have we lost? Nothing. FSX will still work.

Exactly. And even if Microsoft hadn't sold the franchise, we wouldn't be getting FS11 anyway because Microsoft aren't interested in flight simulators anymore.

I guess this frees LM from the agreement it had with MS over entertainment use.

That has to be good news.

FLEX,

Thank you for the info...! Could be some great news for us all....! Don't fall victim to those who say negative things, and how you may or may not of handle this. Keep your sources close and enemy's closer ;)  Let just try and stay focused on what our future may hold.... Keep positive. I am hoping for one person we all know who may have pulled the trigger on securing out future.....!

It looks like we may have clear weather ahead.... Well at least I am holding out for my forecast.....!

Depends on who holds the license now.

If this is fact true, I am more than amazed! 2 years ago my un-named x boss was in heavy negotiations with MS to in fact buy/lease/license FS. MS buried him in so much legal red tape that he finally gave up on them.

So if someone actually survived the MS BS and got their hands on the franchise, more power to them! However, this is one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" moments".

Now I will just sit back and watch the thread develop, this is going to be better than the annual "if I can fly a 737 in FS can I fly a real one" topics :-)

Orbx?  They seem to be sitting on top of FSX lately.

Orbx?  They seem to be sitting on top of FSX lately.

I thought it was interesting that John Venema recently posted a poll on the ORBX forums asking which flight sim do people use with his products. It was roughly 60-40 in favor of FSX over P3d2, which was somewhat surprising to me.

If (and when) Microsoft decides to sell the FSX franchise it will say so - until then...

Orbx wouldn't have the capital. Just two years ago John said they were only breaking even. I doubt even Aerosoft has the money. Whoever bought it isn't likely to be a current 3PD.

I am quite sure that who ever buys it probably will inherit the deal with LM.

But this begs the question, why would someone even buy the license? What benefit does it have? They aren't going to call it Microsoft Flight Simulator anymore. I guess they just want to use the old code? Why not just start a simulator from scratch?

Depends on whether just the franchise was sold or the code came with it. I'd guess they sold the name.

No it really doesn't.

The agreement was between LM and MS and concerned ESP not being sold into the entertainment market. The licence for the MS flightsimulator franchise is a totally different thing.

Whoever has bought the licence does not have a non compete agreement with LM in the way MS did.

So.....purely hypothetical.....Flight Sim franchise has been sold..New buyer has all the rights,etc.....Decides that P3D is now a competitor to their new investment and orders a cease and desist. I mean that's what I would do.

The official announcement at E3 should be very interesting
