Not recommended to touch base clock on my board here is a video on it and this is my board - just playing with multiplier is best and easier  :)

So long as you keep thermal protection enabled it's very difficult to damage Intel CPUs (with the exception of PLL).  Basically RAM with high Voltage limits and correct timings along with PLL voltage = stability ... however PLL (phase locked loop) is probably the most "risky" of voltage settings and needs to be used with caution.  What I'm finding with my older i7 3960X is that it seems to work better with a higher base clock even if lower overall CPU frequency.

I've started planning my next "build" and it will be based on the X99 chip with Haswell-E CPU (see: http://www.zdnet.com/pre-order-pricing-for-intel-haswell-e-desktop-processors-revealed-7000031651/) and it appears that this CPU will be launching very very soon.  Hopefully motherboards and DDR4 RAM will be available soon also.  But I'll most likely be bound by cooling options ... meaning I'll need to wait to see what's available on the water cooling front (including cases) as I plan to water cool the entire rig including two Titan Blacks (regardless of P3D SLi support).  I need to release my main development PC from simulator duties so will go with a dedicated PC with one or two supporting PCs.  Anyway, off topic sorry.

I'm enjoying OpenLC EU ... obviously the regions look better as you can see in my Cardiff pictures (gotta be a reason to buy regions) but for those looking to minimize financial investments FTX Global, FTX Vector, and FTX OpenLC EU is a good option if you don't want to spend a lot on individual regions.

I used to enjoy photo-real scenery (MSE) in FSX simply because I didn't like how FSX worked Autogen (so turned it off) ... now that P3D works Autogen so well, I've shifted over to Orbx products.  I do miss Photo-real, but Orbx have done an outstanding job getting closer to Photo-real and have done it with 4 seasons and night lights and trees, and buildings, and powerlines, and rivers, and landmarks, and ... .

Cheers, Rob.

Hi Rob - good luck with build you want a killer case this is it - tons of room always cool and has some great toys such as adjustable lighting (colors and a light which lights up the back panel when you cant see what your doing its awesome

Got Euro LC working a bit better but not seeing any boost thats for sure - I have upped my oc to 4.3 - 4.5 was fine too but feels better at 4.3ghz at 1.2 volts - tweaks you offered I have all ready done as for NI graphic quality I like high quality and turn down settings in P3D menu

Thanks for link, I'm looking for a cube case as I'm not a fan of vertical cases ... I prefer gravity to work with me not against me especially with the weight of two Titan Blacks and a nice water cooling setup.  I found a few nice cube cases, but choices are limited ... not sure why, they make for much better platforms for those into overclocking with heavy heat sinks and water coolers.

Odd about your OpenLC Euro experience ... tossed out all the adjustments that I've used to help performance.  Orbx NCA is still pretty much un-flyable for me regardless of settings ... not really sure what is going on there, but OpenLC EU is very good on performance even with Vector maxed out.  Assume you have the latest Orbx libraries also?

FYI, I know you mentioned BufferPools, but I'm almost 99.9% sure those values are not used in P3D V2.x.  I think LM also removed the Fiber Frame option for v2.2 (as in ignore it) but maybe try 0.10 and see you notice a difference.  If you disable OpenLC EU does performance return to normal in the same area?

Good point on gravity Rob - I believe I saw some cases that had gpu supports

I have not disabled them - good idea the only other thing it could be is mesh maybe - in US all is fine

I will remove buffer pool = 0 and see what happens other than AM thats all I have done to it. Tried recommended by p3d some additional cfg lines but that did not help so just went back to stock

Like many others I was skeptical about ORBx until I decided to get FSGlobal, that in itself changed the overall quality of the  textures in FSX, later I bought Vector when it was released and was pleasantly surprised that it depicted towns, villages, etc to a much greater quality and detail than all the versions of UTX I'd been using to date. After that there was no stopping me getting much of the rest, such as Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, etc. - Last in OpenLC Europe which has beautiful and detailed textures. Like any new releases there are some glitches here and there and ORBx is always very open to feedback and will be fixing and improving this product. Also their airports are something to behold, such as Sumburgh in the Shetlands which I used many a time when I was working in the North Sea and can testify as to its accuracy and attention to detail.

One thing I don't think Orbx have managed to do is the quality of roads and motorways, but then in all the years I have been simming I've never found anyone capable of producing worldwide coverage of realistic looking roads.

Yes there is an overall cost for all this as there is for many other things in life, and I can appreciate this can be a barrier for some, however that side of the equation is controlled by the developer.

If you can afford to buy Global and then Vector I suggest you give them a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. This is just my opinion and I have no financial gain or any other benefits from the Developer.

It all depends where you fly. In Canada, UTX is a vastly superior product compared to Vector and works just fine with Global base. On the other hand Vector is only a beta level product at this time; in the future I'm sure it will catch up or surpass UTX Canada.

So it's 40 AUD, which is the UK equates to £21 - for which it is an absolute bargain.   I bought it this morning, and it is fantastic, I can't get the smile off my face!   Not only does it contain all the landclass but there are many many new texture sets too - it really transforms Europe - I've been flying in Romania today; a bland area I wouldn't go near in default FSX, but with Global / Vector / LC it looks fantastic.

+1 Good value for us UK customers.

Also flew around an area I would never normally touch because of the cr*p FSX textures/landclass.

I flew from Split in Croatia north over the mountains at low level to check out the accuracy of roads and village placement. Very impressive. And great looking new textures for the buildings - they really did look pretty good in terms of colour and structure compared to google satellite images of the area. Very immersive.

I haven't bothered with FS Global Mesh. Too expensive and 25GB?!? No thanks. Bought the FSGenesis FSX World Terrain Mesh for £12 instead (and just around 4/5GB total size). Lower resolution but still looks fantastic compared to the default FSX mesh. Highly recommended.

I already have HQ mesh for my favourite areas (UK/France/Spain) so that automatically takes over when I fly into those areas.

Hope this helps

This is a link to 50 pages of free mesh down to 5m. A lot of it is very good especially the Asia coverage and Europe is outstanding.

Its great if you have plenty of time on your hands and a good download manager. My current mesh folder is 49GB for the world minus ORBX regions but its all on a separate 3TB hard drive so hardly makes a dent

The next patch for Vector is all new high res map data for USA and Canada but specifically Canada...

...

Here's a list of changes currently planned to be included in Version 1.20 of VECTOR. Stay tuned as I'll update this list every now and then.

CHANGES:

  • NORTH AMERICA: New coastlines, lakes, rivers for the US (including Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii) and Canada (from a much more accurate source than OpenStreetMap); comparison shots will come soon
  • (stay tuned for more - a bunch of fixes will also be included)

NEW VECTOR DATA FOR NORTH AMERICA

For update 1.20, we will completely replace coastlines, lakes, and rivers for Canada and the US. The results are stunning, as you can see on the following sample screenshots:

I will have to take your word for it; I do not have permission to view this forum (permission was revoked a few years ago  ).

Any of you guys know if Vector data for Europe will be also improved in near future? I think it is still taken from OpenStreetMap and in some areas accuracy could be improved.

It must be improved. I saw some errors in vector data (huge rectangle near Dubrovnik), and my hometown (Belgrade, Serbia) is waaay off.

They haven't said anything so far about a better source for Europe, but they've made it clear that they're continually looking for better sources. For now, the best thing you can do if you want a specific area improved, is to edit it yourself in OSM and send them the new vector data. I went myself and improved the coastlines and roads of my hometown in OSM, sent Bernt the improved vector data and he said it will get in Vector 1.2.
