FTX: Global openLC Europe Released

Featured Replies

No. There is no product FTX Europe. FTX Europe stands for the European regions (UK, Wales, Scotland, Ireland).

FTX Europe currently is region packs for all of the UK & Ireland, with Norway in development - like they've done for NZ, Australia and the US/Canada west coast.

oops... Snap.

Yes...I have always liked how UTX does roads, etc...and while I have bought Vector for P3D, and have it installed there...I have yet to find a need to bring it over to FSX. So...I enjoy both programs, each working for me, where I want. Yes..you only need to inactivate only the LandClass portion of UTX-Europe...and the rest works fabulously with Europe OpenLC. I highly endorse this product, as it blows away GEX/non-ORBX Global install.......and now truly lets ORBX-Global, shine...as you see 'virtual world', and not merely the inevitable 'tile' you flew over three miles ago... The forests and fields are so well done...you now fly...and no longer concern your mind to suspend 'disbelief'. Again...a fabulous product, and so well worth the money they are asking for it. The product has close to 8,404 individual files...this being way more than merely Land Class arguments sent to the graphic engine.I personally call it ORBX SUPER GLOBAL PLUS. You know what? It certainly looks like it from a gorgeous 1,800 feet AGL!!!!! :) Because of this new addition to the fold...I keep flying LOWER......and soon, might be travelling on the roadways...so I don't miss a single detail, LOLOLOLOL! I actually have altered my VFR cruise altitude. I always used to fly Global in FSX and P3D at 2,800-3,500. Over the last two days...it is now 1,500 to max of 1,800 AGL. There is only one reason for that....... Yes...this comes Mitch Recommended, lol! I am also going to get North America and South America...and then my Open LC will be for where I fly. At that time, I guess I shall delete UTX and fire up VECTOR also for FSX. I then will have universal, world-wide coverage (for South America) and can know that each will evolve alongside the other, as ORBX 'leaves no-one behind' (smile). Post Edit: BTW, where I state 8,404 files....I always do a defragg after a product installation, and my defragg file count displayed live as that figure stated.

And again, thanks for your thorough feedback. Highly appreciated!

New 3d night lighting. This means when it's foggy and dark, all the lights are still visible so imc flying is ruined in Europe. Way to go!

Thanks for the clarification regarding FTX Europe.

Admittedly it sounded a little bit too good to be true having FTX detailed scenery for all Europe but if that would have been the case I would have used my credit card right away!

Edited to fix the triple posting thanks to the 'Service unavailable' issues here at AVSIM...

Now this doesn't sound very good. So what you are saying is that regardless of weather the lights on the ground are always visible? And this is after installing openLC?

Greece is poorly done in terms of smaller towns. I was in Neos Marmaras (Sithonia, Greece) on summer vacation, and it's not even there.

That doesn't sound so good, considering that John Venema said openLC will provide an excellent region style coverage for Greece.

Hello, can I install OpenLC just above Ultimate Terrain and the "sandwiched" LC I installed in the past without removing it?

(FTXGlobal is installed)

Thanks,

Dirk.

OpenLC is a Global add-on and works only with Global selected

That's what it says, Bert, so if you have installed OpenLC and have FTX Europe and make that the active region in FTX Central you're going to see anomalies in textures placement.

Would've been better if Orbx would've left out the 'Global' part with their OpenLC product. FTX Europe with FTX Europe OpenLC sounds a lot more viable.

Btw, it IS rather hot here, isn't it...  :Whew:

Groeten,

Jan

Even hotter today! Pfff

You're right about the anomalies that can occur like you describe. That's why Orbx has made it perfectly clear (at least in my view) that you should not select FTX Europe when you are flying exclusively outside a Europe FTX region like England.

If Orbx would have left out the global part for this Europe landclass product as you suggest I think it would only become more confusing. Maybe 'FTX Europe with FTX Europe OpenLC' sounds a lot more viable, but this Europe landclass product is part of the global product line and has nothing to do with Europe regions. So it is actually a lot clearer to use the world global in this LC product.

Cheers, Bert

Regarding ground textures, and how Greece globally looks, he is right. But some towns and villages are simply not there. Not only Greece, Serbia and Montenegro also, as I said. SceneryTech has similiar representation of Serbia, and I think texture repetition is less pronounced with it in that area. So, I'm thrilled and dissapointed in the same time, it depends where you fly.

On the other hand, something suggests me that OpenLC maybe isn't installed correctly on my system. But there are forest areas clearly visible that are not present with UTX and ST landclass.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

I prefer this..

Not impressed with Open LC. It's fine from altitude with autogen but peel back the layers and you can see all the mistakes.

This is why I prefer photo scenery...

In DX10  (Fixer ) that is not an issue i believe. In DX9 it is I would need to consult the manual again to be 100%, but there is an option in the fixer I am sure.

System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A,  Intel i9-14900KF,  Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. WinWing FCU, EFIS, MCDU

I'd certainly prefer that too !  But what exactly are we looking at here ?

Thanks!

Sorry the rest of the text disappeared - took me ages just to post the two screenshots! Not sure what's up with AVSIM the last couple of days.

Both pix are same location 2000ft overhead Earls Court in West London. Below you can see the old Ministry of Defence building and Earls Court exhibition centre.under the SF-260. No photoshopping apart from image resize.

Pic 1: Generation X Photographic Scenery

Pic 2: FTX Global+Vector+OpenLC (although I removed the autogen to more clearly show the messy roads overlay).

As a predominantly VFR real-world pilot once I'm above 1500/2000ft (my usual cruising alt) I don't see individual trees or small buildings standing out when I'm in my real aeroplane. I see a similar view to Pic 1. Pic 2 even with autogen just looks unnatural IMHO. I DO understand why others prefer autogen - I also fly with it elsewhere in Europe but in my home area I prefer everything to be where it should be in real-life (even though the Gen X photo scenery is a bit out of date now).

Like many of you I am finding the Global/Vector/LC package great for areas I'm not familiar with (because I know no better!). Using Plan G as a moving map on my second PC I notice that there ARE a few mistakes but overall their landclass placement is pretty good in most areas comparing it to the moving map. Unfortunately London is a bit messy using Open LC.

Cheers

No repetition of Global land tiles...it looks so darn real....wonderful! Forest land class calls...are awesome!

I for one wish people would post more screenshots, not necessarily before-after - just shots of what gets those of you who are excited so excited.

That's great news for me because I'm running FSX exclusively in DX10 mode using Steve's amazing DX10 Scenery Fixer.

Also when I think about I believe I'm already using some kind of 3D lights because I'm already using FTX Global and I remember there were some discussions some time ago about the possibility to use the 3D lights provided by FTX Global also for the UTX roads and in that way save some FPS since the UTX lights are known to be quite FPS hungry.

Not 100% sure though I remember this correctly.
