FSX: Steam Edition for Take-Off on December 18

Featured Replies

Play nice now. Please do not tell me which forums I should go to, if you do not agree with what I debate on. I do not support Steam, I do not play FSX, & therefore I will not be playing with FSX-Steam. If you are a moderator & ask me to leave this forum, I will, otherwise, debate or chat, or ignore!

Seriously?

Topic is now being monitored by AVSIM staff... In other words, the credits are starting to scroll up on this drama. Fun while it lasted. Thanks for the laughs, guys and gals.

I will cry if this gets closed.

Where does one get that DTG is developing a new flight simulator? To paraphrase the only quote I can find, it is something like 'will be bringing original titles based on Microsoft flight (small f) technology.' The way it is phrased made me immediately think that they meant that they are more likely to be making some add on content, more than that they are going to make a brand new flight simulation engine. They also don't seem to be very big. I think developing a comprehensive and realistic flight simulator from scratch is something that takes dozens upon dozens of programmers. If you look at the back of one of the DCS manuals, the design credits go on for 3 pages.

No one is expecting them to develop a new sim from scratch. That phrase means they are launching their own sim using one of Microsoft's flight sim engines. Which one exactly is not known right now. This would be similar to LM releasing P3D which is based in Microsoft's ESP code.

I will cry if this gets closed.

Oh, we must be very careful then! I hope you read the banner explaining why the topic is being monitored.

Hey I never noticed that before.....but I am just getting back to AVSIM from a break (we are about to have a baby so things got busy).

I gained from this thread as well so good to see a new initiative for FSX.

Cheers Guys

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Goats, my point is that I'm not expecting them to develop a new simulation from legacy code either.  If that single announcement is all there is, then I think their statement is ambiguous enough that I don't read it as a clear indication that a new flight simulator, clean sheet or evolutionary, is coming.  More like a teaser that might not mean what people think it might mean.  Even if they did have source code from something, if P3D is any indication, even that is a monumental, multi-year effort.  Even if they do make some FSX follow on, what I think a lot of us don't want to see is some game-oriented, dumbed down thing like msft Flight.

Don't forget that "Microsoft's flight tecnhology" might include the Flight engine which is a lot more modernised and exhibits excellent performance. I really don't think that huge deal happened just to get FSX republished in Steam, that is probably just a move to get them started.

As for what their future flight simulator might be, they said that Flight felt too dumbed-down for them, which gives me hope they'll proceed to making a true FSX follow-up.

that is, if you plan to do that.... train simulator is not really known for being comprehensive or even realistic.

they plan to release a product 2015

   Oh don't close, only 3 more sleeps then all will be revealed.

If this one thread does get closed then never worry....because after December 18th their will be over 100,000 new purchases of FSX Steam Edition and all kinds of people starting new threads about it, and after that more then 250,000 new people and so on......This one thread is just the beginning

I think some peoples heads are about to explode but I like it when things go in a new direction.  :good:

From the article linked above:

“When it comes to licensing our simulation engine, Dovetail Games is the obvious choice for us to work with. We respect their approach in terms of delivering premium quality simulation games and look forward to seeing their vision of the next chapter in flight simulations unfold,” said Kevin Perry, Executive Producer at Microsoft.

That sounds an awful lot like they are looking to bring their own flight sim to market to me, and not just some add-ons.

As for whether they use Flight or not, personally I hope they do. It had solid flight modelling, and in some ways felt more real to fly than FSX does. The lack of content was the biggest failing in my opinion. I do like to fly wherever I want, in what ever type of aircraft I feel like that day. Things like the lack of airports and content could be easily fixed, and adding back in AI and ATC sounds very possible too. However, thanks to the overly negative backlash, it sounds like they may be shying away from this route.

Only a couple more days to wait.

My, that was a lot to say to a few simple questions and I never questioned whether you were really a woman, just that you reminded me of the other lady by the way you write, sentence structure, mannerisms, amount of posts in a short amount of time, etc.

Oh my god are you serious!!!! OK so what your telling me is that another woman used to post here? An actual real live woman used to actually post here on the Avism threads OMG that's crazy,

What's crazy is that "she" was a man. In fact there have been a few "ladies" that ended up being men in the past here, but like I said, in my first post addressing you I didn't ask if you were a women or questioned your identity.

Firstly now that wasn't a very nice thing to do, to try and embarrass me and put me in a corner. But not to worry my skin is even thicker then the warts on your over sized nose.

Again, not sure why your defensive and how you thought I was embarrassing you. Just wondered why someone who's married would say they have NO interest in men. Simple as that, not meant to embarrass you.

I will say this, I do tend to talk to much and say just about everything that's on my mind,

That's why you reminded me of someone else that used to post here.

Like a few of the other fellows mentioned, many are skeptical when someone joins as a female, makes a ton of posts in a relatively short amount of time, then end up being an actual guy. In fact the last lady man that got banned ended up having multiple user names here.

I never questioned your identity or whether you were really a women in my first remark to you and I'm not now, but as others as well as myself have mentioned you can understand why some may question it. Frankly I didn't even know you were registered as a female until I browsed the forum in regular mode rather than mobile and saw your avatar with a female face.

It doesn't bother me Im used to it, I live in Bangkok and lady boys everywhere..

ZORAN

It has been a fun ride. Yup.Steam has forums for all their products & others as well. Even a forum for Flight, strangly enough, is there. Different strokes for different folks. It has been a fun ride, debating all the percieved issued, pro's & cons, etc. Lets all play nicely now.

Cheers, Robin
