December 18, 201411 yr Author Maybe that Flight1 registry tool would be worth a shot? If you have a 'dual' install, run the registry tool before installing something in the steam version and vice-versa...I know it's a pain but it's a possible workaround. Neil Andrews. December 18, 201411 yr Well yes, but the config files are generally located in your Documents folder, or Apdata areas. As long as the add on installer can find your base FSX installation (which you can generally specify) and the placement of peripheral files doesn't change, then it theoretically ought to be alright. Sorry, but no it isn't that simple. Philip Manhart :American Flag: - "Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." ~ Plato
December 18, 201411 yr Why would anyone want two versions of FSX on the same PC? Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
December 18, 201411 yr There still resides within the install folder an FSX.exe aswell as an FSXSEConfig.exe so surely the installer will find the FSX.exe in that root folder and fire ahead, no? The folder structure within the root is largely the same.
December 18, 201411 yr I think ultimately there will need to be a migration tool utility like we have for FSX to P3D Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

If you have a 'dual' install, run the registry tool before installing something in the steam version and vice-versa...I know it's a pain but it's a possible workaround. The registry tool doesn't redirect installers to different config file paths, only the program directory. I'm not new to this fellas, I'm speaking from years of experience with installers... You can pushback against the facts with optimism, but it doesn't change a thing. I think ultimately there will need to be a migration tool utility like we have for FSX to P3D Bingo! December 18, 201411 yr Why would anyone want two versions of FSX on the same PC? "Original FSX (boxed)" - for legacy / past addons and a known, secure environment that they will all work in. "FSX: Steam Addition" - Perhaps for the convenience of installing 'straight from Steam' and perhaps because new updates or improvements will follow. There could even be addons that are only offered for "FSX: Steam Addition". David Bourne
December 18, 201411 yr pmanhart, I consider myself a skeptic of many things about FSX+Steam and some of the exuberance surrounding it. And many of these things were discussed in several previous threads over the last couple of days. But now that FSX:SE is released and some people are downloading it (I have no need for it personally), and preparing to install their existing addons into it, why don't you just back off for a bit and see how it turns out for them.
December 18, 201411 yr Author The registry tool doesn't redirect installers to different config file paths, only the program directory. I'm not new to this fellas, I'm speaking from years of experience with installers... I do apologize. I didn't realize you had so much experience with...installers if it comes down to it, the addons will try to write to %appdata%\microsoft\fsx so simply back that up somewhere and cut and paste as needed. once again, I know it's a pain but if one really *really* has to have a dual install, there are ways to get it to work. No need to pushback against that fact with optimism Neil Andrews. Fight or Flight - YouTube | Twitter
December 18, 201411 yr Picked up a copy. Don't have any intention to download it at this point but as others said, great as a backup, and who knows, perhaps more updates or fixes will follow. Or even if there are some 'Steam only' addons released for FSX, it will be worth having. In my town centre, £3.99 (what I paid for FSX:SE) buys you 1 of these wee drams :- (and what use is 1 !!!! ) David Bourne
December 18, 201411 yr I bought it purely as a backup, at £4 it was an easy decision. Also if they follow the Train Simulator model it might be that they release improvements for free yearly. Ian R Tyldesley

Looking forward to the 1000 posts of, "addon __________ won't work with FSX SE! What do I do?!?" December 18, 201411 yr https://steamdb.info/app/314160/dlc/ showing 11 as yet unavailable DLC. I bet yea those will be Flight1 products.....perhaps even Ultimate Traffic 2 with the latest Schedules (could be the reason why they haven't released a new schedule in ages) Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
