Dave,

AIFP is driving me nuts. It's not at all intuitive and the manual is quite vague as to how you create a plan for the return leg.

This is the outbound leg for the week. Please tell me how I add the return EGCC-OMDB leg.

AITP_EmiratesA380.png

If I click "Add FP to List" I get a message box advising "The destination airport of the last leg of the flight plan is not the originating airport... Save?"

If I choose Cancel (why not Yes and No to questions???) it still goes ahead and compiles anyway and then tells me the FP has been saved. Grgghh! Why? I've cancelled the action.

I've registered with the AIFP forum. Wasn't happy they wanted DoB. But 24 hours later still unable to post a question. Are these guys paranoid?

Okay, looks like I've sorted it. Instead of using mytrafficcommercial.bgl to compile into I created a separate BGL and placed it in Scenery\World\Scenery. When FSX started it compiled its database which I never saw when the same file was in the My Traffic folder.

Also, a registration number has to be supplied. It's not on this screen as I edited the txt file but you do need one. You'll need to use Burkhard's database to find out the reg numbers for the aircraft you want to use. Here's what worked for me...

Hope this helps others who may want to tweak their flights.

Glad you got it sorted Ray. Yes it can be a tough nut to crack when first using it, but AIFP does get easier as you get used to it.

Dave,

Perhaps unknowingly you did give the impression creating a new flight was quite straight-forward. Far from it. I've spent the best part of 2 days working on a few routes. It's a very steep learning curve.

It's not helped either by the oddities in AIFP itself.

Ray I'f you had ut2 you could of downloaded an Emirates update from ai alpha,  imported it and unclicked the original Emirates I'm the ut2 gui.

From start to finish it would of taken you about 3 minutes,  it pains me to see people fannying around bgls (that are out of date)  compiling and such with aifp....

I've actually found it easier to learn the methodology to create / update the flight plan source files themselves, and simply compile them.  Seemed easier than learning an interface (AIFP Editor) to do the same.

On the topic of MT6, I've enjoyed having a bit of traffic around that seems to have almost no impact on my framerates.  And after a bit of traffic watching, I went back to actually flying and then having to navigate the airports with said other traffic; means that I haven't even noticed the accuracy or quality of the models and the liveries.

However, after traffic watching at the smaller airports in Hawaii (which all contained plausible traffic), I then visited PHNL.  While I fly with the smaller FSDT Hawaii airports, but since I've been flying GA for the most part, I've never bothered with PHNL, and I have a decent looking freeware AFCAD for the airport... Well, it must not have coded gate assignments in that AFCAD, because the assortment of planes at the gates in PHNL was quite comical!  Looked like martial law had been declared, tons of military mixed in with the regular jets.  Oh well, mileage varies I guess!

Haha. Sorry, maybe that's part of the reason why I initially offered to just send you those flights I created. I didn't intend to lead you down the garden path of thinking it was going to be a super simple process. But it's not difficult either, learning any new program will take some time. I've been working with AIFP for a few years so for me it was very easy, those missing Emirates plans to EGCC for instance took less than 10 mins including the research on finding the actual schedules.

UT2 had crossed my mind but the half-price offer for MTX6 made the decision quite easy. I did use yRoute many years ago so knew the relationship between airports, aircraft and flightplans. It was just the interface that caused confusion. Actually, it was the manual that caused confusion because had it been clearer I could have just followed the steps.

I'm not intending to make mass changes to traffic. Just the high profile stuff in and out of EGCC.

If you'd done the work for me I still would be none the wiser had I wanted change other flights like the Virgin 747 to Orlando which leaves at the wrong times. That's sorted now too.

As a former programmer myself I do get irritated with question boxes with OK and Cancel options. It's so easy to provide Yes, No, Cancel. AIFP is not without its quirks and you're right that it takes time to learn. That painful part is behind me now so future changes should be easy.

If you fly over water, all your traffic disappears with UT2, and the developers are long gone to ever bother fixing it. The last payware flight plan update was missing dozens of fights many to new coded airports that the developers or testers all missed.

I want to like My Traffic. Why cant My Traffic get real world schedules? I really want a new updated traffic program, tired of spending hours every weekend fixing the old schedules of other old AI addons.

There is a subscription called My Traffic Live that gives you real time schedules for all commercial aircraft that are tracked. That obviously doesn't cover a large percentage of the globe, but it is a large number of flights. I'm not recommending it, since I have never used the product:

Jay,

That's £14 for a six-month subscription. Not very good value as suggested by only 3 reviews which only 1 gave it a decent score.

Live has be sort of discontinued in MT6. Burkhard hates it now, and does not bother with it anymore. I don't blame him, as it only worked when it wanted too

Yet he still charges £14 for a six-month ongoing subscription? Sounds like a stand-up guy.

I apologize and take that statement back, I was under the impression it was sold and developed by the MyTraffic developer. I was corrected below.

You really need to do a bit of background checking before disparaging the reputation of a very good developer.

For your information it's these folks who sell the subscription not Burkhard Renk.
