P3D 3.0 Speculation & General Nonsense

Featured Replies

I've been griping at [mostly scenery] developers to bring their addons to P3Dv2.5 with little success. I'm sure they'll be super excited to get up to 3.0.

This may be a separate topic (not that the current one is all that substantive) but man oh man do flightsim developers seem lazy by comparison. So many have gotten complacent with a platform that's been static for over a decade and now that we have some [slightly] moving goal posts and "ahhhh!! say it ain't so." And I'm not even asking for free upgrades...

I am sticking to 2.5 even if its out..the clean reinstallation of the whole thing is a pain in the butt

I don't really mind doing a clean install,  everything so fresh and new again, like decluttering  a house,  Come to think about it i was never much of a housekeeper,  My x partner was a fantastic house keeper, so good in fact when we broke up he keep the house

I would normally agree with Pankaj. After all, that's why I am still using version 2.4. Nevertheless, if those hints of significant improvements to VAS management are true, then v3 will be hard to resist. The only aspect that concerns me is compatibility with my existing addons.....

I was thinking the same thing about compatability, but do the developers not get a copy of the new V3 to work on in the background befor the official release

Not usually, no. Some might be invited into a beta, but that's about it.

Interesting,  i would of thought loads of devs would be brought on first,  should be fun updating/installing all our new patches  :Nail Biting:

Same here. Considering that the Prepar3d website actively showcases third party software to be used with the platform, I'd have thought that they would invite most of the main devs to update and test their content during the beta.

Maybe they had but the devs can't say anything, you know that NDA thing and stuff. Hu knows.. but Hu ain't talking.

Could Lockheed Martin trust all 3D developers?

The word "trust" or "all" was not used here Gerry.

What does NDA mean anyway? Never Dell Anyone.

Anyways, there would have to be a handful of Devs beta testing that much is obvious, if it wasn't for that darn Never Dell Anyone rule we would know.

Probably not.

But presumably LM opened up the platform to Joe public initially because they knew that P3D would only be a success if it had access to third party content.  I would have though most main devs would therefore be included in ongoing development, so was surprised when Ed said this was not really the case at all. But I know next to nothing about software development and associated protocols.
