December 16, 201510 yr Hello.. I need some Help!.. My FSX seems to have an unusual issue..I have look everywhere! but can't seem to find a solution,, When parked at airport gate my FSX runs smooth with Default aircraft i get a steady 28-30FPS (locked at 30) when I fly with default FSX aircraft same I get steady frames.. When I Try to load my PMDG 777.. My frames drop hard... When Parked I get 25-14FPS (30 locked) When I'm flying I the frames will be bouncing around 28-24FPS and THEN!>> it just drops to 5-3FPS for like 3sec and then back up to 28-24FPS.. December 16, 201510 yr Hi, i am not an FSX expert, had till P3D hit the shelfs. FSX just do not lke the AMD I learned that when i built my first high end flight sim PC. Intel+nVidia is the way to go. I know that this info wont help you for now. Did you try to let FSX to rebuilt a new cfg and work your way from there? Did you use any other HQ scenery or weather add ons? December 16, 201510 yr Those sort of FPS seem reasonable to me in a PMDG aircraft, and are similar to what I get in the NGX (I don't have the 777 yet). I can't explain what's causing the sudden dip to single figures every few seconds, except maybe check if the autosave feature is enabled in FSUIPC if you have it? December 16, 201510 yr Hi, AMD cards can lead to variable performance with FSX.However many user get them to work. Have you as a starting point read through the documentation which came with the777 and followed the advice from PMDG re your settings in FSX.? Norman Bowman
December 16, 201510 yr Moderator Two things to try. 1. When running complex aircraft like the 777 that take up a lot of processing power, try running FSX with unlimited frames rather than locked. For some people, myself included, this works better. 2. Back up your FSX.cfg or move it do the desktop and let FSX build a new one. Then add only the Highmemfix=1 and try the sim. I noticed some Bojote tweaks in your cfg that might not be necessary. Remember that planes like the PMDG 777 are gong to take up more processing power than default planes and it will be expected that you may need to lower other settings to accommodate them. Also AMD video cards aren't known to usually be great for FSX or P3D especially in clouds. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

The cfg you posted must have been an older one judging by the procspeed values in it if your running at 4.7 ghz. Your virus scanner could be causing the intermittent drops on FPS if your not using FSUIPC auto save. Exclude FSX from your virus scanner and see if that helps. December 16, 201510 yr Commercial Member I ran ATI cards with FSX for many years with excellent performance. Try using Ansio in FSX and turning off AA in CCC. Now, I believe where your processor is concerned, there are two issues at work. 1. FSX doesn't see anything more than 4 cores (8 logical), and even with 4 cores or 8 logical it's been proved by Dovetail Games that some of the processing threads get repeated (processed) thus hurting performance. I'm not sure how I would approach that with your processor. 2. At least with i7's, turning Hyperthreading off (I forget what it's called with ATI) is beneficial for many users, you may want to try this. Hope this helps! December 17, 201510 yr It's not the AMD card. It's the 777. You have to move the sliders a bit (lot?) to the left with this aircraft. December 17, 201510 yr Are you measuring on a default- or a specific add-on airport? Default airports should not eat up a lot of FPS.
December 17, 201510 yr Moderator I Deleted my FSX.cfg and let FSX create a new one.. ProcSpeed=7234 Somethings not right with your overlock. You stated that your running at 4.70 ghz but yet your procspeed values that FSX generates when you have it build a new cfg don't reflect anything close to th processor speed you are suggesting. I run at 3.85 ghz and FSX generates a procspeed for me around 13000 or so from memory. Your numbers suggest your processor is running around 3.00 ghz which would be one of the reasons your FPS aren't better. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 17, 201510 yr Commercial Member I'm 90% certain that FSX doesn't even know his cores above 4 (0-3) are there, which might very well account for the processor speed. I've seen a lot of cfgs posted by people running dual and quad cores clocked over 4ghz and FSX seems to have recognized that theirs were running faster than what the OP posted by the procspeed numbers in their cfgs. Granted that number doesn't do anything for the sim, but my comment was more for the OP that he might want to verify that he is actually overclocked and not running at stock speeds.
