The good is that I can finally feel like a kid, which at my 52, will help with my Ego....

There's a kid in me, that kid who ended up trashing the complex airliners for som combat simming in DCS World and IL-2 BoS, but remembers how good it was to fly MS FLIGHT aerocache hunting and missions.

And... I have a lot to learn in aviation, so, I will certainly buy and use that Flying School with dedication....

After all I have NEVER officially started a real world GA engine! I haven't really ever used ATC properly in 35 years of real world flying because I only fly gliders under VFR, mostly over G airspace...

The rest, well the rest will probably be provided by the smoothness of a 64 bit dx11 ( or 12 ) based platform :-)

FSX:SE and P3D are trashed (again!!!!) for me.... il-2 BoS and DCS World will keep me busy until the launching day!!!!

It would be great if it came with built in ATC, even VFR only... I had a great experience with Propilot 99's ATC, by that time way ahead of what MSFS was offering, and even with FLIGHT UNLIMITED!

RIP FSX:SE, P3D, X-Plane 10.... ( even Aerowinx PSX.... ): They will all be burried today.... A ceremony just like the one Larry Adamson once used for Propilot 99....

Those are PAST ----  The FUTURE IS DTG!!!!  Well, and let's see what Aerofly FS v2 brings too....

Don't let that "very complex and hi-fidelity" cabin door hit you on the way out.

Not sure why this is exciting news.

Why throw P3D in the bin already? Besides, I wonder what the comparison between DTG FS and Prepar3D will show when the first is released at the end of the year. Maybe P3D is 64 bit as well by then. Maybe P3D is the better sim by then. I'll wait and see before deleting anything of my drive.

Reading down through the article on FlyAwaySimulation.com, it talks of being compatible to FSX mods and products. I sincerely hope this rings true having spent a lot of cash on Scenery and aircraft. I am sure the aircraft developers will then get on board with updates for their products. Perhaps the Scenery textures e.g. Rex, UK2000, ORBX Global/ LC, Photo scenery etc will be usable but with a much better engine behind them.

We shall all watch this space with interest!!!

We will never move forward if backwards compatibility is maintained. 64 bit alone will break nearly all current aircraft (and potentially scenery).

Brandon Filer

Maintaining some sort of code similarity and compatibility between DFS and it's predecessor is advantageous to developers, but it is terribly likely that devs will need to start deploying "Quadruple Installers".  If so, how many developers would actually continue to support that many channels...

Might this be the time when FSX starts to fall off with devs -or- will Dovetail have a hard time breaking into the computers of the "it ain't broke don't fix it" crowd?

...only time will tell....

Multiple platforms is a problem for developers allready, and this isn't going to improve the situation. But at some point the transition to 64 bit code has to start if we are to get up to date graphics and a fairly accurately simulated aircraft running inside the same software.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

I completely agree. However, when asked specifically by me about backward compatibility on the Steam forum, Martin kinda skirted around.

So, either they do not have a clear answer about this yet, as DTG Flight Simulator is still under development, or they do have, but are uncomfortable to share it at this stage.

Could you be any more negative? Maybe we should wait until we have more information before dismissing them so abruptly?

It's not negative at all. If you read the release it really only says that they are going to be making another release later. The school thing is a bit new but their are several of them online. We already knew they we going to monkey around with some form of FSX-se and Flight.

If they surpass P3D then I will melt down my credit card like many others. We shall see.

Dovetail target market and Lockheed market are supposed to be different. Sure, nearly all add-ons are cross-compatible (up to now) but as DT release new products for 'their' market ( causal simmer in case you haven't worked it out yet! ) then anyone holding on  to some strange fantasy of a very complex and hi-fidelity flight simulation will be very much 'sad face'

LM muddied the waters - hence the 'supposed to be different' observation at the start - with the academic licence which allows some 'unofficial' casual simmers (shhhh, don't tell anyone...!)  into their market.

DT are catering for Steam audience, people! Its very obvious by the fact the product is only available on, well STEAM ? Which equals casual.. things like +XP , badges , 'fun' ...

I'll see myself out... !

This has been brought up before, but Steam is just a distributor. DCS and IL-2 BOS are considered pretty complex and hi fidelity flight simulators, not aimed at the "casual" gamer (whatever that means), and yet they're distributed and sold on Steam too.

Looks like the only one here with some strange fantasy that P3D is the only complex and hi-fidelity flight simulator is you.   It's "just" an evolution of FSX, just like DTG flight simulator will be.

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

Oh my god! 'fun'!?!?

We can't have that!

Don't let that "very complex and hi-fidelity" cabin door hit you on the way out.  :Peace:

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

The information release states that DTG Flight Simulator will be released towards the end of 2016.
