September 22, 20169 yr I have rw experience with the 430W - used it while getting my ppl asel Great unit! But in the sim, nothing beats the GTN 750 - except an fms maybe (heck even the GTN is probably better for situational awareness!) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 22, 20169 yr Commercial Member I hear they removed the keys to hardware link so you cannot program your Go flight hardware to operate the GNS530. You are now stuck with operating it only with your mouse. This is a major drawback to me. I don't have a dedicated hardware 'GNS' panel, but I do have a Leo Bodnar board hooked up to some dual concentric rotary encoders. Not being able to use them is kind of disappointing. I wasn't about to jump right into this anyway, given the cost, but I would love to have a 530 to put in a few older 'ex' FSX aircraft that I'm using in P3D. Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
September 22, 20169 yr Anyway how is it guys? Same concept as the RXP? Yes, it behaves much like the RXP units - I have one in a RealAir Duke, and one in a Carenado C182Q. A couple of features missing (compared to the RXP units).. No LinkGPS, no exporting of flightplan, no key definitions for interfacing anything but the mouse. And.. in the Duke, no animated knobs, except for in the popup. But, if you do not require any of those, it looks and operates exactly like the RXP units do.. So, for FSX-SE or P3D users, this would seem to be the migration path to follow. Bert

It would be just a decorative piece in VC.. In IMC condition with the EZDOK shaking the VC, imagine doing an IFR flight and you have to use the tiny mouse cursor to use that thing.. Not gonna cut it. If you already have the GTN750 and do not have a 540/430W to fly in real world, this is not worth it for flight simmers. If you are a real pilot and have a 540/430W in the aircraft you fly, then maybe, maybe its worth looking at it. For FSX, the realityXP is 100 times better then this. This is 10 steps backward. JMO. September 22, 20169 yr For FSX, the realityXP is 100 times better then this. This is 10 steps backward. I beg to differ.. I would say it is 90% of the RXP unit's feature set and 100 times better in terms of support. Bert
September 23, 20169 yr Flight1 seems to be extremely vague about it, so I guess I hvve to ask. I understand it still doesn't accept navigraph files? Does it come with at least relatively fresh AIRAC, or it's another product with two years old data, rendering it practically useless for my personal use?
September 23, 20169 yr Wait, we weren't allowed a gps in training or cross country work...DED Reckoning or stay home... :Shame On You: Gives me a flashback! I finished my business degree in the mid 1970's, soon after the emergence of calculators like the Bomar Brain and competitive calculators from companies such as Melcor, and they were not allowed in the math classrooms until several years later. Does it come with at least relatively fresh AIRAC, or it's another product with two years old data, rendering it practically useless for my personal use? You are justified in your concerns.. however, as with the GTN and the RXP GNS units, it is all based on the Garmin Trainer code, which can be updated with newer navdata sets. If you ask nicely, I am sure someone can help you with recently expired navdata. If you require current navdata, you either purchase it from Jeppesen/Garmin for a couple of hundred dollars, or take the data from your real world Garmin subscription and copy it to the Trainer. Bert
September 23, 20169 yr For FSX For $49.95, you buy the reality xp http://www.reality-xp.com/store/index.html And then get the $150 Hardware and have a real Garmin WAAS enabled 530 on your desktop http://www.avsim.com/topic/387387-oki-got-my-first-phase-of-my-cockpit-done/page-3 How could anyone used to this possibly go backwards to using a mouse cursor over tiny buttons while on an EZDOK shaking VC in IMC? For FSX, Reality XP is the only sensible choice For P3D you have these options. 1) You go with the 750. There is the possibility of using a touch screen with this too. 2) the minddstar G530 and 3) for VFR the default GPS is good too.. particularly using the default GPS with a hardware for VFR is even better. For 95% of simmers, the default GPS on a hardware like the one on the pictures is a better experience and fun than a mouse clicking small gauge on a VC and then paying 65$ for it. Why? September 23, 20169 yr ...I use only VOR navigation in the plane and couple P3D with Foreflight: You get a nice moving map on an external iPad, including current Nav Data and real weather overlay. If you purchase the professional version, there is also easy taxi feature included. Of course, annual fees can be considerable, but no performance hit, not installation issues etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i7 7700 OVC to 4.8 Ghz, Win 10 16 GB RAM (3 Ghz), P3D V3.4, Nvidia GTX 1070, 4K monitor resolution@30Hz on 55'' TV, PFC hardware
September 23, 20169 yr Yes, and the whole process is very easy! All you have to do is to select the aircraft and click on "Replace RealityXP" why not spending time and monney for an update/upgrade GTN 750 versus V6? I was using GNS 530/430 for a long time but not coming back to it. Serge
