TFDi 717 Releasing on Dec 22nd at 6:00pm Eastern (2300z)

Featured Replies

Do have one question, and probably should find it in the manual, but how do I download any additional liveries?  Didn't I see someone was flying the Delta scheme already.  I can't see where in the TFDi Addon Manager.  I'm sure this is simply user error on my part.

The forums area has its own download section. Check there.

This aircraft looks really good and I'm tempted to get it, but I just can't justify spending 60 dollars for a plane that hardly anyone uses any more.

Simulator: P3Dv6.1

System Specs: Intel i7 13700K CPU, MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk Motherboard, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Video Card, 3x 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 SSDs, Windows 11 Home OS

PHNL-PHLI went very well. FPS 25-35 running a 55" 4K tv off GTX 1080. I also have the micro stutters/freezes. I had one right at touchdown. The systems seem sturdy, but I also see the issue with the idle to taxi thrust delay then over acceleration. The sounds are great; I would say some of the best sounds out there. I think they got the "feel" just right in the modeling of the cockpit.

had to go the opposite direction and do -88 training after having flown the 717 for 1000s of hours.

Let's just say they fixed all the things "wrong" in the -8x series that make the plane much more user friendly as a 717.

*in the 88 you have another "wheel" to dial in your CG and flap setting, and it moves a green trim flag which equates to the green area on the CONFIG page in the 717. It's the same type rating, but definitely makes the -88 feel ancient.

Flying "feel" wise? Basically the same thing- as expected, the -88/-90 does not slow down/go down and lacks the nimbleness the 717 has. The engines on the -88 are less responsive from idle, although I see that simulated a bit too much in the 717.

Great input.  Thanks!

I agree. There is a slight delay, but with the FADEC of these engines (and similar to the -90), the sim is being a bit exaggerated. It goes from 22-50% N1 a little too quickly.

Also, the N1 indication on startup. Yes, I realize that it takes a long while to display an N1 indication in the real airplane, but this sim doesn't show any N1 rotation until 35% N2, and the "acceleration" hang is a little too exaggerated at 29% N2... I'd almost abort for a hung start at that point.

Judging by your type ratings,  you have quite the aviation background. On my airplane, (FADEC) we wont abort a start unless it gives a specific EICAS message and at that point the FADEC has already aborted the start for us. All we have to do is put he thrust lever back into the SHUTOFF detent. Does the 717 leave it up to the pilots to abort starts or will it still abort a start on its own if it perceives a pending hot start, hung start or other start malfunction/ Just curious.

As I only fly in Europe, does anybody know if there were/are any European based operators that used the 717?

In Europe?

Do you have the Gofight MCP ?, does anything work or will we have program it with the Goflight interface tool.

The MCP, LGT, and radios are ineffective. I imagine the interface tool will be needed, though I've never messed around with it.

bought it against my better judgement. Perormance in the default "fair weather" theme at flightbeams KSFO HD without ORBX is mid 20s. No AI traffic.

When i use ASN, perf drops to mid teens. unusable at that level of performance. Up at altitude, its fine.

i7 2700k OCed to 4.8 with a gtx 970 at 4k resolution. 8 gigs of RAM.

In terms of modelling and systems programming, its a great airplane! Sounds are fantastic as well.

As some said, there may be an optimization issue or something that slipped through the cracks.

oh well...I now have time to learn a new airplane!

EDIT:

After screwing around in the sim, running at 4k kills performance more in this airplane that it does in any other airplane. I know I know, 4K will run slower than 1080p. However, I'm getting on avg. 10 more FPS in the PMDG NGX and 777 than in the 717 while running in 4K.

If I go back to 1080p, I'm getting the same performance that I get with the PMDG birds in 4k.

FWIW..

Had the same thought initially. There is Spanish Volotea in Europe which operates in many touristic summer destinations, Delta in the US as long as QuantasLink and Hawaian. To me its like QW 757 and RJ100, which are been getting retired, though it seems much more advanced simulator and I also see it as a challenge to learn one more plane for diversity.

...then you may also want to avoid the PMDG 747... it's disappearing fast

avoid the PMDG 747... it's disappearing fast

However as far as I know there will be the 747-8 variant which, I believe, will fly for decades to come.

Judging by your type ratings, you have quite the aviation background. On my airplane, (FADEC) we wont abort a start unless it gives a specific EICAS message and at that point the FADEC has already aborted the start for us. Does the 717 leave it up to the pilots to abort starts or will it still abort a start on its own if it perceives a pending hot start, hung start or other start malfunction/ Just curious.

The 717 has the same engine type as the ones on the G-5/G550. The FADEC controls the whole start. It will abort the start if it sees anything it doesn't like and illuminate the auto abort message. The fuel switch isn't wired to the fuel control or fuel shutoff valve, it sends a discreet to the FADEC. When placing the switch on, you are only requesting the start. Once conditions are optimum for the start, the FADEC will supply fuel and ignition when it's satisfied. It's a great engine, but only have 2 flaws.

1. The fan shroud experiences some damaging harmonics when the fan is in the 66 to 80% range. You have to make sure you stay out of this area and make sure you transit it no longer than 10 seconds. With the parking set, the FADEC will add fuel or remove fuel to keep you out of this range. Being in the range longer than 10 seconds can lead to cracks.

2. The engine cools at different rates and in different sections. This leads to rotor bowing. If the engine is shutdown greater than 20 minutes but less than 5 hours, you have you run the engine at max motor for 30 seconds before taking the fuel switch to on. It takes about a minute. 30 seconds to reach max motor of about 28 to 30%N2 and 30 seconds at maximum motoring with the starter. The point is to straighten the shaft before adding fuel. If you have rode a 717 or a GV, you might have noticed how long the engine spun before it lit off, it's intentional. Takes about 12 seconds to get EGT after fuel flow and ignition is added by the FADEC.
