I absolutely love the buzz around the community today, we've all waited soooo long for this!

I am a FS9 and by the looks of P3D v4 I will be moving on from FS9. I am wondering if my current computer setup can run P3Dv4.

Post your hardware specifications and I'm sure someone will advise you one way or the other. It's not whether one can "run P3d V4", it's whether one can do so using  reasonable image quality settings and still have adequate performance.

Moths, hummingbirds, flies, bees and mosquitoes.

I'm really xcited. The ability to do a Flight from Flytampa Amsterdam to Fsdreamteam JFK without having to worry about vas issues is brilliant.

No more having to disable airports you're flying over either.

Multiple flights will also be possible for me e.g Vegas to LAX to SFO and back to Vegas all in one sitting.

This time of year, it's definitely mosquitoes here.  The national bird, a hazard to flight!  😂

After the sopping wet spring and the heavy flooding we had in the Ottawa area, the little mosquito bodies are literally piling up here as we commit mass mosquito murder!

Does this(dynamic lighting) mean that we should be able to see xplane like night lighting instead of those baked textured light ((and that textured runway edge lights) )?

Thanks,

Not Sure about the default but Orbx has made a comment on DL.

Any plans to update Orbx street lights for dynamic lighting?

No, the dynamic lights are limited to 256 sources per scene and at altitude you can potentially see up to 50,000 3D light points with our lighting system which would cripple the sim if they were dynamic.

What you WILL see is the new dynamic lighting being added to new airport projects which will likely include street lighting close to the airport. It's up to each developer to patch existing Orbx airports to add dynamic lighting but don't count on that happening soon.

There was nothing in the video that convinced me to change. The VC rain looks non-exsitent compared to FS9. And the same wahsed out cartoon textures remain unchanged from FSX days.

64 bits of boring sameness. Yikes.

Academic license?  Price?

I imagine its the same price as the V3 versions!

I've owned every version of flight simulator since Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988.

Windows 11 Pro loaded on a 4TB Gen5 Crucial T700 SSD, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, Ryzen 9 7950x3d, AS Rock X670e Taichi Motherboard, Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB, 64GB (2x32GB) Viper Venom  DDR5-6000MT/s, MSI 32" MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 260hz 4K Gaming Monitor.

Exciting news.

As I sit here and consider the possibilities, I find a creeping dread coming into view.

Does anyone know if it will be possible to have both versions of P3D installed? (3.4 and 4.0)

I'm asking because I have spent the last year or so tweaking, buying and installing and tweaking further to where I'm pretty happy with what I have in version 3.4. I realise I'm a rookie in this regard; just returning to flight simming. Some have been at this non-stop for years.

Will I have to leave all that behind to get access to 4.0?

Yes. PMDG has confirmed that the upgrade for 4.0 will be free, when available. Great. But what about all the other aircraft I have? It was bad enough leaving my FSX aircraft behind; I'd hate to have another batch of payware that I'm leaving behind as well.

Cost of the hobbie? Or, reason to just sit this one out for the time being?

As exciting as the news is, as a FSX:SE user it is also a bit depressing. I just can't stop thinking how much the switch to a 64 bit sim is going to cost. I have 3 PMDG aircraft (just bought the 747 too), well over 50 add-on airports from various devs, weather addon, AI traffic and all sorts of utilities. I am reading here and there about free upgrades but I am assuming this is for simmers moving from v3 to v4.

XP11 is brilliant, i'll be using both sims, I may still get FSW when it goes on sale. We are lovers of flight simulation so why not have XP11,P3D v4 and FSW?

Because flight simming is an expensive hobby so for certain people they like to narrow it down to 1 platform of choice. Sure if I was rich, I wouldn't mind running all those different flight sims that are available, but I'm tired of people saying why not use them all. Well it's kind of obvious.
