Since you have "cz" in your nickname ... are you from Czechia? If so and if you live near the border with Poland, check the prices there. I bought my Saitek pedals approx. 30% cheaper during one of my trips to Kraków.

This makes me want to use my old pedals again... When I moved to NYC for studies I couldn't bring them and I didn't want to bother my parents with lugging it with them in their suitcases when they came to visit. So I've been flying without for the past year or so. It's fine - it works, but with pedals it is significantly more fun in my opinion. Not just for cross wind landings: also the toe braking is essential to me for a controlled taxi. I really hate that full brake effect every time I lightly tap the break key... Same goes for landing, mind you.

Rudder pedals are essential.

If you're on a Budget Thrustmaster has a pair under $100. They work for me.

For years I flew using just a stick (with rudder twist ) and throttle combo. It worked fine and I got quite adept at landing GA aircraft under most circumstances.  Then for my 70th birthday I was treated to a second hand Saitek Cessna yoke and throttle combo (no longer available new) and a pair of MFG Crosswind pedals. OMG what a difference.  My whole experience has changed so much (for the better!).

Now I feel like a real pilot and landing smoothly has become trickier but so much fun (using X-Plane).

 

Yoke plus pedals = realism + fun!

And if somebody took your stick away and you were left with only a keyboard, all that would be left is GTA V. 😄

I do it both with and without pedals...I have high-end PFC rudder pedals on my main sim box, but I also use a twist-grip Thrustmaster T.16000M stick on my portable rig when I travel.

In reality, there is very little use of rudder in transport-category aircraft equipped with yaw damper systems...it's primarily used during xwind takeoff/landings and taxi.  When you hand-fly a turn in most jets, you can do it with your feet on the floor as the damper will take care of coordinating the turn.

The twist axis for rudder and trigger button for brakes is a compromise that works, but of course (most) real acft do have pedals.

If you do get pedals, don't go cheap...flimsy plastic pedals aren't worth the powder to blow them up.  That's especially important if you ever decide to fly helicopters or sailplanes...not so much for jets as explained above.

They are essential for serious simming. I used to have the Saitek aircraft pedals which wore out over time, and changed to the combat pedals. I would not recommend these as they are too stiff even at the lowest setting and their movement is not typically GA/commercial aircraft.

Haha, come on. As a serious simmer, you then fly the Airbus with your left hand when "seriously simulating" being the Captain? You fly a small GA plane with a joystick but a Cessna with a yoke? You use a throttle quadrant with push/pull throttle and mixture for a C172, but with up/down throttle for a DHC-Beaver?

Seriously, if you only consider people using pedals as serious simmer, you would need the appropriate hardware for almost every plane you fly individually.

Besides the fact, that "simmer" basically says everything: even as a "serious simmer", you do nothing more than sitting in front of your monitor and using some kind of hardware to move your virtual plane through virtual world with virtual weather.

Or, in your eyes, what does the "serious simmer" do if he needs to go for a pee while flying around in a GA plane? word not allowed happens, no, a serious simmer of course sits tight until he parked the GA plane in front of a building at the destination airport until he goes for the toilet. Pressing "P" to interrupt the simulation is an absolute no-go for a "serious simmer".

Should I continue? With above rather zynical statement I try to express: 99% of all simmers in the world need to make the one or the other compromise in regard of really simulation the real world. Some are easier to circumvent (e.g. the pedals, I agree), others are not and most of them are totally individual and often also related to the fincancial capacities and the space around the simming rig.

But such a blunt statement as cited above is certainly plain wrong. End of the story...

I am very happy with my CH Eclipse with small paddles for rudder. Serious or not this is good for me

i see you have invested in pedals ..... so now you can set your "twist' axis to the tiller and / or buy another joystick as a tiller only control 😉

that way, you will enjoy your airbus / cat c & d & e & f aircaft more.

besides, how did you steer your airbus in taxi with a rudder (pedal steer) limited to 7^o deflection (or isn't the aersoft that particular).

Yoke, pedals, and a flexible throttle quadrant are are all my required flight controls for absolute realism.
