I've been a member for a long while and come here to learn; there are folks here with far more knowledge than I'll ever have to add. But since it seems that the devs do indeed keep an eye on the forums here, it seems worthwhile to speak up,

I'd have to nominate ATC first. While ATC in FSX/P3d may not be anywhere near perfect, it's still the best we've got going and I'd like to see at least that level of ATC in the new sim, and then build a better system on top of it.

Beyond that, I'd like to see seasons implemented ahead of VR. The completeness of all-weather flying is a key item to me.

I have to be a bit contrary about VR. I appreciate it, and I'd love to try it, but without a solid sim in the first place, VR is just eye-candy and gamelike. The MSFS  series has distinguished itself a simulator first; let's not lose track of that. First a solid simulation basis, then apply good VR to get the most from it,

I'm with you on that.  A good proportion of VR users won't go back to flat monitors.  Rotors would be my next priority, but I could wait for that, whereas with VR I would put off the purchase until it arrived.  It may be, of course, that an ultra-high performance GPU will be needed to get the frame-rate high enough.  Yes, I am a new member, well actually a returning member from years ago, currently using AFS2 with VR.

...yes but without ATC, AI, weather... Sorry I can't resist 🙂

Richard

I don't have VR so that's why I didn't consider voting for it. I have no problem with people being passionate about their desires for the hobby. I'm quite sure VR, ATC, Ai, seasons and an SDK will be in the sim... eventually. There are only so many man-hours before release to include any of this, so we'll be lucky so see any of it in version 1. If we get VR, great. If we get seasons, better for me. But it will all be included down the road, I'm sure. They have given their word concerning their commitment.

Is there more than one standard or format for VR? If so, that could be a problem for the developers.

Also, at this point, only 500 members have even entered the poll. Maybe that says more about customer interest than which few votes have preference.

It may also be a teaching moment regarding all polls in life. Don’t believe them.

Not necessarily all polls.  There's a difference between surveys/authoritative polls (where there's discipline about the sample size and the questions) and quick spot polls, like this one (where there isn't).  Pro tip - when you're looking at poll results, always read the fine print about methodology, and if possible read the questions (there are lots of ways to ask biased questions).  Know your pollster's history.  Spot polls can be valuable - I've used them myself - but they're really just a quick back-of-the-envelope way to take a temperature. They're not good grounds for reaching conclusions because the sample is skewed, and because they're easy to manipulate (as we've just seen).  I'm sure Microsoft is reading this one with interest, but also with many, many grains of salt.

Back on topic: I'm in the seasons camp, as you guys already know, but I've heard great things about VR and I'd be really happy to see it in the sim so I can give it a try.  We can all get what we want... eventually.

How does VR reached 30% is beyond me. People should only be voting for seasons right now and maybe atc as a 2nd priority.

Since i started flying VR i cant go back to 2d and a flat monitor. Seasons are nice but compared to VR it doesnt give much of a immersive feeling being in a simulated world. I do agree that ATC needs to be priority aswell, i do use vatsim but lately mostly pilot2atc. I hope something similar will be added to the release

VR may be an amazing unique experience but its still not mainstream. Im guessing for the cost factor.  Very good headsets are $400 and upwards pushing $1000.  There is other reasons but I would far outweigh upgrading to a very strong GPU before considering a VR headset. It will come but by no means should it be a priority right now.  VR is an extra fancy bonus, not something that should be a core feature in a flight sim.

I have no doubt that VR in flight simulation would be an amazing experience. I also have no doubt that it takes a fair amount of processing power to run properly at high detail levels,.....and that equates with expensive. This is why I am quite happy to stick with a relatively small flat screen monitor @ 1920x1080 resolution. In short.....what I don't know, I don't worry about (or in this case....vote for)

Please, please, please. Enough about VR already. The debate got started up and ended again.

It's perfectly alright to say VR over seasons or vice versa but no long comments please.

Thank you.

Thank you.

That applies to anything, not just VR, right?

I would take real issue with censoring something just because it’s obviously more popular than some here care for.

Yes. That applies to every item in the poll. We pretty much have topics in the forum that contain lengthy discussions about each item. This is the Nick's Notes version.

Thank you.

Honestly, it’d be easier (forum wide) to stick to that if anybody actually read anything past one page.

It’s unbelievably frustrating how much stuff is already addressed or discussed, but too many users generally don’t go read any of the previous pages of information.

That doesn't really bother me at all, but the same person writing the same squawk over and over and over ad infinitum is very annoying...

What doesn’t bother you at all?
