russia, closed border in Jan  -  hardly any cases

singapore - closed the borders in Jan - hardly any cases

mongolia - closed the borders in Jan - hardly any cases...

Italy... free movement of people of course sanctioned by the EU..... ...

See where is this going, not hard is it.....

Yes, but all closing borders can do is flatten the peak. We cant stay isolated for ever. Certainly not for the 18 months it will take for the new inoculation to be tested.

And when people do start to get on with their lives again, the virus will fire up again.

The  usa  are  testing  a  cure  for   for  it  and  our  testing  it,  here in  oz   they    are  testing 2  drugs   on  people   to  see  what  is  the  best one to  cure  people  with the  virus,  and  in the  next  2  months or  so   will roll  out  the  best  one,  but  they  said  it  will take  another  12  to  18  months  for  a  vaccine hopefully  sooner

Over 99.9% of the world's population DOES NOT HAVE coronavirus this morning.  Over 99.9% of Americans DO NOT HAVE coronavirus this morning.

CDC estimates that between Oct 1st 2019 and Feb 1st 2020 between 36 and 51 million people contracted the flu.  Of those between 370,000 and 670,000 people were hospitalized and between 22,000 and 35,000 people died from the flu.

Not trying to minimize the coronavirus pandemic but trying to put it into perspective.  So leave some toilet paper on the supermarket shelves for other people.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I keep telling people Polio was scary, the difference is in the late 40s the population was post war hardened and Polio was another thing on their plate to deal with after a series of major atrocities. Today's youth this is their world event and they are not as hardened or ready for such an event as people were in the past. Thus the reason for the hysteria and TP stockpiling. They don't know any better it is reactionary

I'm down with SARS under intensive home care,  last 4 days or so already. I enjoy reading this thread. Some of the past nights were quite hairy breathing-wise for me. Today I feel I'm improving. SARS caught me after a very active mounth of my daily sport routines btw, I could just dent my immunity. You guys stay safe and healthy. Interesting thread ))

Cheers,

PS: First coming-out here

This is just unreal to me.  I'm here in MN, USA.  They cancelled school at least until end of March (probably more as they are rolling out distance learning stuff today).  I'm still doing ATC but we are prepared to go to skeleton crews...thankfully the airline traffic is down or will be so it should be manageable for the larger facilities.  I'm unsure how the corporate and GA training traffic will be for us smaller facilities.  So I'm cautious at work because I've got my three kids and spouse at home.  But for now I'm still going to work.

We are absolutely cancelling larger functions and basically all the restaurants and events/places we would normally go are closed or closed except for takeout/drivethrough.  I plan on going to the grocery store late at night or early in the morning.  We have a lot of food in a deep freeze.  Hopefully no issues with power/water/sewer (and let's be honest...internet - I'd be sad without my wifi_ - for now we've got all that.

Looking at Itlay's numbers...I'm very concerned about the USA and other countries....  Hope everyone stays safe!

Your death toll from the flu is right, the difference with the new SARS COV 2 virus is,

the infection is so fast, if we dont slow it down, in the worst case scenario your numbers can happen on a daily base.

What is happening now is one of the biggest challenges of our society.

Here is an accurate breakdown of the coronavirus statistics worldwide and nationwide.  This is the best thing I've seen to date.  I understand it is updated hourly but I can't confirm that,

yes i see it and i see the numbers, just look at italy and the time period it happened and where we heading if we cant get it under contrrol.

Nobody halted to whole world economy before because just a flu, it is not just a flu.

EGLL London Heathrow is planning on shutting down a runway and using it to park aircraft , so I hear.

This is just getting surreal now, but strangely I don’t feel as unsettled or disturbed as I did flying as an airline pilot immediately after 9-11.

WE WILL get through this.
