A duty to not harm your neighbors...what a concept...

I read that story about the guy in NYC getting on a JetBlue flight from JFK to Palm Springs when he knew he probably had it (turns out that he did indeed), and found myself thinking that there is still a place in modern society for a town square equipped with heavy wooden stocks and an ample supply of rotten fruit.

We have a similar case in Wellington, he brought in our first case on our city and the 7th in New Zealand. He was tested, was waiting for results, but got on a plane anyway spreading it to another country. He is now public enemy number 1 in New Zealand:

Agree completely - except that the CDC has just recommended against gatherings of more than 50 people.  So the fruit-throwing mob may have to wait...

You and @Matthew Kane are absolutely right about people like that, but you don't even have to look for extreme cases. The restaurants and bars in New York and DC (and probably elsewhere) were filled all weekend with people who think it's not going to affect them and it's not their problem.

Can't fix stupid... or criminally negligent, for that matter.

I am with you here. In France, the markets in Paris were full of people yesterday, young people roam the evening streets claiming ‘we are afraid’ etc.

I guess this crisis confirms what the social networks have already taught us, the increasing level of education of the population has not decreased the level of stupidity.

Oh, social networks increased those who can speak, including the silly ones.

At this point, really, the only things other countries should do is lock things down. It makes no sense to keep markets open o limiting gatherings to a number superior than 1.

As for Italy, things are more or less like before. We are still on the growing part of the curve and the second derivative is still positive. We are expecting (and hoping) to reach the peak in few days.
Still, while most of the population is doing things properly, it is sad to see how a part of it is the perfect example of that stupidity we were talking about before. Over half a million have been checked by law enforcements while they were outside and over 20.000 of them were fined.

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

Talk about the office today is Norwegian to go down first week of April and people at Virgin are very very worried I can assure you.

Ryanair talking about grounding all aircraft next month, like the title of this thread yes everything looks like being cancelled.

The first email I checked this morning announced that the 2020 Dayton Hamvention has been definitely cancelled. This comes as no great surprise since gathering 32k+ people into a three day event would be a particularly stupid thing to do given the current health crisis.

I did some last minute shopping the other day and am fully prepared to spend the next few weeks in the relative safety of my home until further notice. I have enough frozen food and canned goods to carry through for at least two months if necessary.

Be smart, be safe my friends!

I just read an article where the elderly are much more vulnerable than children.  That goes along with the thinning of the herd.  With herd animals the older ones are placed at the outside of the herd when under attack from predators since they are less valuable to the herd than the younger animals and are sacrificed to the predators for the good of the herd.  Humanity is the largest herd on earth.

The earth's resources are finite and population growth along with global warming is shrinking those resources through over use (over grazing) and diminishing availability of those resources both on land and at sea due to global warming.  Since mankind is not going to address either the problem of over population or the effects of global warming perhaps the coronavirus is nature's way of doing the job for us.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

So you suggest "I go stand on the outside of the heard" ? Over you back!

Based on available information, Adrian, I think nature is doing that for us.

Heard what?   About the behaviour of a herd perhaps.  Coincidentally there's another active current topic on the misuse of the english language.

Sorry to hear Bill...especially based on your unfortunate non-refundable reservations.  This pandemic well may wind up costing tens of trillions of dollars in the trickle down effect for every imaginable industry (esp. commercial aviation).  If you haven't already...possibly a very nice letter to the hotel management regarding your pre-purchase and in the spirit of the crisis at hand, they could maybe meet you half way with a refund?

Never hurts to ask, esp. if you're a high level member in their reward program?

On a more positive note, Seattle is testing a vaccine ... https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/coronavirus-vaccine-test-opens-as-us-volunteer-gets-1st-shot/ar-BB11gCN6?li=BBnb7Kz

On a less positive note, DJIA continues to free fall as reducing the Fed Rate has done nothing to help (bad idea since reducing rates only weakens investments and encourages debt).

Cheers, Rob.

Yes. Another GFC perhaps (and without the tools to fix it this time as they have already, or still are, being used).

Cheers
