Dang, are they still pushing beta builds 3-4 days before official release?

No, but one should at least enable some of the key features added to the product line over time, like TrueSKY, dynamic lighting (especially for night time), and dynamic reflections, and ... don't need to change "sliders" to enable them, just a checkbox ... maybe use an aircraft built with PBR since LM support PBR since v4.4 ... maybe use scenery that support PBR.  Everything is in P3D to support the year 2020 but FSElite choose to show 2006 by creating their OWN condition of "default settings" and "out of the box".

If you follow Navigraph surveys and follow user forums, FSElite are showing a configuration for the 1% use case?

Anyway, we have a new Beta build today ... time to go test out "god rays" and read up on the SDK to see how on-the-fly rendering of dynamic lights on any object can be implemented to produce some stunning night lighting ... yes, it's up to developer to implement.

BTW, 2020 titles not yet released like Deadstick Bush Flight game uses ... drum roll ... TrueSKY ... but it is enabled by default with no option to turn it off 😉

Cheers, Rob.

Rob. You missee the context of that sentence. Capabillity of maxed out settings and turn on all options to see what is in the box. I wrote several times that I dont care about the video. Yes, it is very bad recorded. But I care about the bad night lighting in P3D after so many years still fsx style and popping behaviour.

And again....I like P3D and also will buy v5 for sure. But they could do something about  the lights in future....and about the scenery.......just wishes......

So if they done something about it already....that would be great and welcome. Now hopefully the devs catch it up.

Happy easter!

You obviously forgot why we are in this "mess", right? And who should we "thank" for that. And who left simmingg platforms to independent developers to make our life easy and more enjoyable. Funny how much we remember and how far our memory goes.

Also it is amazing how many people have a WOW factor for incoming SIM and from what? One video? Two?  It appears that 90 % of sim community participate as beta testers for something they have no clue about yet they know everything and made their judgement based on that.

Nobody seen V5 and everything is already broken, bad, crappy.....collection of disappointments! Go figure...

I see at least two flightsim communities that are alive, positive, forward thinking, working together and where the developers are actively and seriously listening to constructive criticism and opinions from its alpha/beta testers and users and actually show their progress so that we can all follow it. I see these sims taking huge impressive steps forward every day.

On the other hand I see another community that used to be great but that is now filled negative attitude, where every piece of criticism is offensively defended with arguments like "it's supposed to be bad by default because then the 3rd party developers can fix it" or "he is a beta tester and you are just a user so go away". If you have comments and suggestions you are immediately silenced, humiliated and laughed at. P3D is apparently flawless and must not be criticized. Personally I don't think this will benefit the development. For me it's more about the attitude than what the latest video preview shows.

On that I would agree....we  know how vanilla looks like.We also know by now that without third party guys we wouldn't see what we currently see. But notion, by now majority on few forums I follow,  "....NAH it's garbage as expected....", video is terrible and MS video is Faaaaantastic, looks childish to me. And looks like same group is flying on what? Broom? P3D of course, but for some reason they are tired and  "sick" and disappointed at their fake FPS counter and probably hating those with higher FPS than their own, blaming P3D and inability to have more FPS on their screens. And at the same time they never understood that it's not FPS...Whatever...

And now, finally V5 and backward compatibility,or whatever that means, I have no clue. But I can only guess, that LM (oh, that bad LM), left possibility and ability to other respectful developers to make it even better, with least effort and possibly free of charge so we can enjoy better performance....

I can see Jerry Seinfield making show....

That is just not true. We have not been able to silence you. Personally I was not sure if I would move to V5 right away but you have managed to change my "attitude" and come Hell or high water I will be one of the first to purchase, download, and install Prepar3d V5.0. Thank you for you valued inputs and incites that lead me to the correct decision. This type of help and insider knowledge is one of the many reasons that I have been an avid member of the AVSIM forums for many years now. Thanks again!

MSFS

Just my opinion but that looks to be the nail in the coffin for p3d as the no. 1 sim. If you have tons of expensive addons its probably worthwhile upgrading to v5 but for the rest like me with a small number of addons (or newbies) it's a daunting prospect since you need to transform most of the sim to make it worthwhile.

For the rest of us MSFS will provide a higher level straight out of the box and caters to the average simmers needs. Sure we will want addons in future but the default sim is at a higher level than p3d even with thousands of bucks of addons.

It's also likely MSFS will continue progressing much faster since MS wont be adding military or training features that most simmers dont care about.

I left p3d at v3 for xplane which provides a lot more out of the box but still well below MSFS.

It's up to xplane now to compete in my view. I don't blame p3d. They are just catering to a different audience. I expect the addons to start drying up in the next couple of years for v5 after the v4 conversions are done.

IMHO MSFS will be a gamer's sim; P3Dv5 will be a simmer's sim... <ducking flying bricks!> 😇

This seems to make a lot of sense to me. I invested thousands of €s into P3D addons most of which I seem to be able to carry over for free to Prepar3d5. I will pay the 200 € license (that's the one I feel fits to me) and go on using Prepar3d until MSFS will go gold.

However, for anyone about to enter flight simulation right now I would never suggest buying Prepar3d5 plus tons of expensive addons right now but wait for MSFS and decide later. This is not just theory, I have a nephew to whom I just suggest this.

Kind regards, Michael

Time will tell if your right, I'm not sure if your implying that if you fly on P3Dv5 you are a serious simmer, by refering to P3Dv5 as a simmer's sim but I assume that tens of thousands of simmers will use both, so would that make you a gamer simmer when your flying on MSFS, but if the same person fires up P3Dv5 your magically a serious simmer even though you will be immersed equally in both sim complexity wise?

That cloud video...oof. I would love to see a nice boring video of a view right out the front from the pilot’s perspective climbing into the bottom of a cloud layer, breaking out on top, and then breaking out on an approach. The one part of the video that I think maybe showed flying inside the cloud was not particularly convincing.

No bricks, but please, except me from your rule. I've been simming for 30 years through nearly all incarnations of sims during that time and paid many throusands of € for P3D addons alone (and more for XP and AFS addons). If this qualifies as a simmer, I may be a rare exception from your rule as I expect myself to switch to MSFS as my main sim (which doesn't mean I will become blind towards alternatives - and yes, I know what I am speaking about).
