That's not true, this seems more to do with either a bug or poor memory management. April 15, 20206 yr My old GTX 970 is a true bottleneck. With the same settings as in Prepar3d v4.5 (all medium to high, autogen very dense, 4x MSAA, 8x AF) I constantly get VRAM crashes. So unfortunately Prepar3D v5 is not for me until I get a new system later this year. Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024
April 15, 20206 yr I never figured out why but I just had a OOM massage on approach in FT EKCH 22L FSLA321 1080TI medium 4K settings but in V4. Around 8gb vram in P3DV4 Hdd none less than 700gb free and 16gb ram. Michael Moe Edited April 15, 20206 yr by Michael Moe Michael Moe

It appears 8GB according to this https://www.nvidia.com/en-sg/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1080/ unless Nvidia made 1080 cards with different Vram, not sure. Ian S

April 15, 20206 yr Did you notice the settle test for MSFS was using 2080Ti in the PC`s, so if you want to wait for that OK. Raymond Fry.
April 15, 20206 yr *******... I just got my first out of VRam moment without trying VR. Carenados Beach Baron, Aerosoft Cologne (which already has an updated installer by the way), OBRX Germany South, REX Weather enging and sky textures. Same settings in the sim as in v4. As soon as I reach 4.9 Gigs used of my 6 Gig Vram (of wich P3D recognizes only 5, for whatever reason), I get that warning message letting me revert to potato settings and continuing... It is indeed the new era of OOM's. We move to 64bit to finally aleviate the system ram not being recognized above 4 gig only to run into another wall with our GPUs. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that default V5 without add-ons performs within limits even on GPU's with "only" 6Gig. But throw add-ons at it, increase the cloud resolution to 4k, and you'll be staring at an error message in no time, unless you get a GPU with at least 12Gig. Who releases software in such a badly polished state?! Edit: What kind of 50's approach is the swear filter using? Not allowing to take the son of God's name in vain? Is this a methodist church or an internet forum? 😉 Edited April 15, 20206 yr by Farlis

April 15, 20206 yr Well looks like I need a new GPU. My processor is great so I can handle a new card but a 1060 with 3gb isnt gonna cut it, it seems. P3DV4.5 runs like a dream for me with a ton of add ons. Guess I have an excuse now to upgrade the GPU lol

You did not read it wrong, but it was me being wrong using such a tone, I sincerely apologize. I guess I was a little bit frustrated about the adverse posts of some users. April 15, 20206 yr Have an 8GB card and want to use third-party scenery and complex add-ons like the NGXu or FSL? We might be screwed. This is what VRAM is like on pretty moderate settings at LVFR KFLL. There's basically no headroom left. And it crashed after this. How much do y'all want to bet that during testing no one at LM or the beta testers were able to use more than add-on at once, like we do in a typical setting? Consider me concerned about what this means for those of us who can't drop $1,200 on a video card. EDIT: I will note that turning off TruSky helps a lot--now it's at 5.5/6.6 GB in this example. But that means you can forget about using TruSky until 11GB (or more) cards become the norm. Edited April 15, 20206 yr by Chapstick
April 15, 20206 yr If i need a 12GB card to run at 1080P I will pass on V5 it sounds like a 2080 will not be enough. My youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/c/Dkentflyer
