If I have room for only 32" size max would you recommend I move to a 4k screen as well? I also sit pretty close (40 cm) from the screen...

+1 I'll wait for most add-ons to become compatible plus any initial HFs before making the move

The sim looks stunning on 4k, just be sure to get a good GPU with lots of VRAM and don't overdue the SSAA settings.

Me included, I am not sure if it keeps some back for system resources

I think you're right, Steve.

Not all VRAM is available as it is shared . I think 6.5GB is available on an 8GB card.

i7 12700K , DDR4 64GB RAM @3600MHz, Asus Z690-Plus D4 MB, Gainward 4090 RTX Graphics, 850W Corsair PSU, Kraken AIO watercooler, Nvme 1TB ssd, 1TB ssd, 500GB ssd.

Working fine here, GTX 980 TI (6GB). Yes VRAM usage is high, Ive been used to this on X-Plane.

Basically, if you’re getting OOM’s it’s because your eyes are probably bigger than what your equipment can handle (unless there’s leaks).

I've got a 1080ti and currently running 4xSSAA with occasional significant drops mainly in the FSLabs (Big airports + bad weather).

I guess I will be sacrificing fps on top of the above if I make the move right? 😉

MSFS2024 running on Win 11, 4K screen, Z790 AORUS ELITE AX-W, i9-14900K, MSI 3080Ti, Corsair 2x32GB 6000 MHz, 1+2TB M.2 NVMEs

You cannot criticise developers for not using the modern graphics card capability's when they do what you have been asking to have for years, your VRAM will be more important in the future taken some load from the CPU.

I think that there IS 8GB of VRAM and it has an ability to use 8GB of RAM (as shared memory). So basically you should have 16GB of available memory but performance decreases when it passes 8GB and starts using the RAM. I read that P3D doesn't use all the memory because it reserves a GB or two of VRAM for other programs.

Does your "stunning" include the reports from other users that with the novel TrueSky, just a single cloud layer is possible? That it is still a matter of debate if cloud shadows are there if using enhanced atmospheric display and all this stuff? That ocean waves are way to big?

There are many questions raised that I thought were not being asked after watching Robs videos and reading your experience from the beta, yet they are there now. I wonder why... A matter of settings?

Greetings, Chris

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024

Just tried to enter VR for the first time. With the same settings and the same scenery installed as in P3Dv4...

Instantly running out of VRAM.

I seriously consider refunding...

should i get titan x 12 used or wait for nivida 3000

I can add multiple layers of clouds of multiple types. So I don't know what is the problem. I also see shadows, Rob explained they were more faint than before.

I posted pictures of it.

The waves looks fine to me, and there has been lots of videos of them, again everyone has different tastes, just because someone doesn't like something it doesn't mean it is wrong..

I am a bit confused by the tone of your post (I hope it is just me reading it wrong), If you guys have complains please take it to Lockheed Martin.

We are non paid beta testers by Lockheed Martin or users of AVSIM. We are just trying to help everyone really, but if it means we are going to be blamed for everything and get flack like this, then perhaps we should just stop and not provide any help or comments at all.

Regards,

Oh jeez, so is this a new chapter in the story of the OOM errors, except now it’s about VRAM rather than RAM?

"Oh lord...am I ever glad I couldn't get on yesterday...I'm reading all these threads...not good....so will pass, I guess, and I just loaded the v4.5 hotfix 3 client. Will stick with v4.5, and just wait for MSFS20.  Way too bad, with all this..." v4.5 has none of these problems you folks are reporting. I wonder if all this was happening to Rob as well....hhmmmm.

Short answer no (IMO). I have been through a 28" then a 32" and last (best) a 43" 4K monitor. The smaller ones are terrible for reading the text in normal windows programs (and P3D) because many do NOT scale properly. Simbol is spot on with AA its not required at 4k even at 43" as the pixel density is small high enough the jagged edges we see in cockpit window frames etc at smaller res disappear at 4K.

2k (2560x1440) would be ideal at 32"

43" I sit 36-40" away with a 28" 2K in portrait mode to the right of it.

Vram is not a problem yet with the 1080Ti and the smoothness with ORBX Oz v2 is glorious compared to yesterday's v4.

Yes, the area of concern is VRAM. 6GB is the recommended minimum but this appears dependent on settings and addons.
