I'll hazard a guess they have been told to get it out the door. So I'd expect to see it sooner rather than later. I'll guess around June/July.

I'll stick with my 16gb and won't got to 32gb until I see how its goes.😁

I found this comparison useful

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/607/Intel_Core_i7_i7-9800X_vs_Intel_Core_i9_i9-9900K.html

For the sim, the main advantage of the 800X over the 900K seems :

  • Increased memory bandwidth, available to this CPU, helps to avoid memory bottlenecks. It results in improved performance in programs, working with large data sets. It also improves performance to some degree for non-memory bound tasks.

Look at the maximum memory bandwidth 85.3 vs 42.7GB/s !

The base frequency is a comfortable 3.8/4.5 MHz. I think that Asobo said something like  FS20 would make a scarcer use of the CPU compared to the GPU anyway. Is the time of overclocking our rigs over ? I would welcome that.

The X doesn’t carry an integrated graphic chip which makes it cheaper.

PS I checked my Max Memory Bandwidth on my 4770. 25.6 GB/s. Crying now.

Quick tech question,

I have 8GB DDR3 1600mhz installed over 2 out of 4 slots now. What are my expension options? Can I only add 8, or even 16GB of the same type (DDR3 1600mhz DIMM)?

My PC is fairly old, stems out 2012, with an i7 2600k 3.4 ghz and Nvideo GTX960 (upgraded later).

🙂

Think my laptop might struggle - i7-8750H, 8GB Ram, Nvidia GTX1050 with 4GB - time to start saving!

I just googled an 9800X processor. I never even heard about it before (not too uptodate with PC components).

The 9800X looks to be an 8 core (with HT -16 threads) with a 3.80 GHz base frequency, and a max turbo frequency of 4.40 GHz. I thought the "x" was a server CPU.

Can anyone explain to me why they suggested this X CPU as ideal, and not a "k" CPU like a i9-9900k. What the advantage of an X over a K would be?

Is it because the X has a .20 GHz higher base frequency than the K (3.80 GHz for the x and 3.60 GHz for the K). The max frequency of the K is possible higher up to 5 GHz if the cooling is very good.

And if more cores are better, than maybe the higher core count of AMD would be better?

Would it be better to wait for the i9-10900K with a turbo possibly up to 5.3 GHz? or get more cores with an AMD CPU at a lower base frequency?

Thanks in advance.

If I read the specs right, and it doesn’t come as a surprise, the issue is less the CPU frequency than the memory bandwidth. The greater, the better. For the X vs K see my post above.

OK, So I think I'm good with my 7700K, but the RX480 needs to be replaced I guess. 😄

Happy with MSFS 🙂

"50mbps" Are there many people who get that ?

Loads. I get 74 and higher available.

Who you with? BT Infinity I get 74 mbs. Fibre to The Cabinet.

Depends greatly on where you are and who you’re with. I’m in the UK (South West rural), with Virgin and on 150 Mb/s. I could go to 300 if I want.

They never quote Overclocked CPU`S so a 9900k is 3.6ghz.

It's not just about frequency though. It's about IPC.

Encouraging and expected specs, but personally I think it is unwise to upgrade now on the basis of this information. Certainly worth scoping out upgrades. But the devil will be in the details. So for me, I’ll be waiting for the hands on testing and reviews before choosing an upgrade. For instance, performance against different CPUs is likely to be significant if the program is explicitly written for multi threading/multi core (which I expect it will be).

Sorry, I'm not very computer savy.  Is "K" newer than "X", or is "X" the latest and greatest?

K cpu's can be overclocked.

Now I'm only speculating here but it makes you wonder are MS about to release a paid beta, which might have forced LM's hand and sort of forced them to release P3D v5 before the ideal time i.e. before it was really ready for a full release, in an effort to retain their user base?

P3D v5 is a complete joke if you compare it with what has been seen by MS. 😄 Sure, it's a "competitor", but if I was Microsoft, I'd sleep well at night.

Competition is well needed in this industry! Finally people will understand that the stuff that companies charge us big money for today is severely outdated and overpriced.
