I genuinely can't tell if you're joking.

I’m probably joking, Chap. Though if you have any nefarious FS9 exe cracks on your system, it might be best to delete them now, just in case i’m not.

As a keen orthoscenery fan, I consider Bing maps to be pretty poor in terms of quality (lots of color changes, and sharpness is much lower in most area than it was 5 years ago). Would definitely choose ARC or Google over it for almost everywhere on the globe (the exception being a couple of parts of south america).

Looking at the linked vids, the ortho is decent in Teterboro (though pretty blurry down low if you look), and definitely "not great" in North Korea. The overall effect is pretty good at 1000 feet or so. I'd be interested to see how somewhere like Pyongyang looks from 10,000 - 40,000 feet, as this is the altitude that airliner sim fans spend most of their time. As it's the ortho itself rather than the objects that are the main game at these altitudes, I suspect the North Korea scenery looks pretty poor from that vantage point,

I was called a communist for even thinking that. 🙂

I wouldn't be surprised to be guilty of that 😁.

Seriously, a cartel besides being maybe illegal (armchair lawyering here) is not the solution. Apple, Google or MS don't gather the sat imagery themselves, they buy the right to use it from several providers which own  the satellites. Nothing forbid MS to buy better images for FS20, as good as Google picks up for GE.

In some place in Asia, Bing is better than GE, in some places the other way round.

I find in interesting - and curious - that no one has commented on the airplane itself. No animated ailerons, elevator or rudder! What? 😠

Saw that. Disconcerting (understatement of the day). But we don't know which alpha and which complexity mode. Still. it does not  smell so good.

Strange that I missed it in my first pass through of this thread. I think when I first checked the link I got to a facebook page that said something about premiering the nk video, but I couldn't actually find a video there. Now I saw the video, though, and I found it interesting.

I noticed the airplane didn't have any movement on the ailerons, rudder or the elevators. That combined with the lower quality of the world textures made me suspicious whether this was ms2020 or not. Then I saw the trees, and concluded that it seems genuine enough. Also found it interesting that you could see the symbols around the dome structure (where he paused), which indicates handcrafting. The rest of the city looks like it's got not personal attention at all, though. A very strange video, but of course cool to see nonetheless.  I don't really know what to think about it. I wouldn't want to fly ms2020 if all the world looked like this, but thankfully this is just a single video from flying in one of the most secretive and secluded places on earth.

Dear lord, are we now to the point of criticizing MFS2020 on the basis of a leaked video recorded over... North Korea??? I did not even expect that this area would be anything more than a bland flat land! It still looks way better than the base scenery of my hometown (Montreal) in FSX hahaha

That Teterboro video almost brought a few tears to my eyes. This is what I always dreamt a flight sim would look like. And this gorgeous scenery runs at 30+ FPS. I'm so pumped.

As a counterpoint to all those who complain, I say: thank you Asobo, keep your spirits up, looks like you've done some amazing work here!

Nope, NDA has never been lifted. Those that are leaking are still violating it. Hopefully those that are breaking it aren't allowed into future Microsoft testing programs.

Imagine getting this far in testing to toss out your credibility as a tester.

I hope some of the buildings get more handcrafted models. Maybe that is what ORBX will be working on? Maybe sprucing up regions and cities because some of the textures don't look to good with baked in reflections and such.

The points of interest are pretty cool. I haven't seen anything on those yet.

My only criticism of the leaked North Korea Flight Sim video, is that the flight could not be made in a Sikorsky S-61 done in a mocked up North Korean livery whilst Katy Perry's Firework played.  🤣

I’m surprised they didn’t include the Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang. That would have been very cool. Unless somehow I missed it.

I am pretty confident that the new sim will be a big leap forward in term of imagery and I love the idea but it is not inappropiate to say that the coloring of this image is bad, that they should correct it.

Well ya' know...... This might make you wonder what the sim looks like with all data and orthos and etc turned off..........

Well, I managed and consulted on  million, billion and trillion dollar weapons systems and contracts, and I managed military and flight sim projects, testing and acceptence and what I'll say is that money is money, and when it's invested any company must have a system in place to manage and mitigate exposure and the many types of risks that come with it. One simply has to look through and eyes and experience of those who run such programs.

Best wishes.

I read the comments here on the video first before watching it, and expected it to look really terrible (which wouldn't be implausible, given that the source imagery for the DPRK is pretty poor). Did we watch the same video??? Sure, the shade of green is a little intense for the Korean peninsula (wouldn't be out of place in SE Asia). But the cityscape looks better than almost anything I've seen, in addons, for P3D. I think of Paulo Ricardo as having done some of the finest cities in P3D in his Brazil products, and the video really reminded me of his work. In a good way.

So Pyongyang, of all places, looks like a high-quality P3D city addon (and it was almost all done procedurally, by the way!) and most of the discussion here is about how ugly it is? Huh?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for the bar to be raised even further. And hopefully it will be in the next few years! But I think we may already losing some sight of how far we've come...especially given that there's a lot of people here telling us the legacy sims I'm comparing this to still have a long life ahead of them.

Couldn't agree more.

And I guess with MSFS, Microsoft will have a great incentive to eventually improve the quality of their Bing imagery, because it ties directly into how attractive one of their biggest gaming titles will be.
