So I am what would be called an old hand at this, maybe. But, I have no experience with any Game and have never even held a game controller. This new MSFS is way too complicated for us old guys. It has been developed by the best Game devs in the world, and it shows. It installs and operates like a game. After messing around with it all day, I have it flying, but have not been able to hook up with my friends on line, even though it says we are connected, etc. The scenery is very good, but getting there has been a chore and I am not done yet. I am sur that my Great Grand Children could get it going in a snap because they have grown up with games, but I may not live long enough to master this one. It would have been nice if there were some instructions to guide us. I am sure that in time it will become second nature to most people, but MS sure left s old timers behind with this launch. I'm going to be 81 Next month and I had MSFS 2020 running on my PC in 1 day. Now In 5 months I have almost 400 hours.

I got an X although I had to pay a bit more for it. A classic case of supply and demand boosting the prices. July 19, 20214 yr Age has nothing to do with it. What is needed is patience in learning how to properly set up and use MSFS to take advantage of its great features. I have been a flight simmer for nearly 30 years, from FS2 through FSX, and it took me a while to learn the ropes of MSFS, but it was worth it! (Of course, being retired helps).
July 19, 20214 yr There is a learning curve. I've been into flight sims since my old VIC-20 and am now 70. But, age isn't a factor. It's more about patience. I have a friend who tried X-Plane a few years ago and gave it up after one day because he couldn't get a plane in the air in a few minutes. It doesn't work that way! Is there a guide to setting up MSFS from the beginning to include install, setting up your hardware like yoke, rudder, throttle, TrackIR, etc...? I am still on P3D but planning my move to MSFS after SU7. Thank you Eric

July 19, 20214 yr Uhhmnmmm...this thread makes me feel like I'm a taint - not young, but not real old either. I found the most difficult for me was waiting on the initial download of the game to finish. I don't have the fastest internet speed so I got nervous I'd wouldn't be able to use it before I croak. But, I haven't croaked yet and I've been able to set-up things to be able to fly here and yon in the JF PA28 with few issues, although I do get anxiety with really large updates tho because I never know if I'll keel over before it finishes. If you can't tell, I have this burgeoning feeling that when I leave this world, my better half will find me at my desk waiting for the MSFS download to finish. 😳 AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7GHz - 5.2GHz|CyberPowerPC MasterLiquid CPU Cooler|MSI PRO B850-VC WiFi Mobo|GeForce RTX 5070 12GB|DDR5-6000MHz 32GB|950 PRO M.2 2TB|850 EVO 500GB|2TB Seagate FireCuda SSHD|CyberPower ATX|850 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Gold PS|Win11 64bit Home|MSFS2024 Std Ed I love the smell of Jet-A in the morning! July 19, 20214 yr Author Well I started this thread almost one year ago, so it's time for an update. I have done pretty good with the sim and am now comfortable with just about everything. It did take some getting used to, but the scenery is outstanding. It's kind of like how I felt transitioning from the C-119 to the C-97 all those years ago. I am very happy with the program now, but still think the UI stinks. Looking forward to more updates.

I've worked in IT for years, and patience is the answer to many problems. It is amazing what you can fix by simply getting up and walking away when you are flustered. The moment you start to feel frustration bubbling over, this is when bad decisions are made and few things get fixed. Get up and walk away for 20+ minutes. When you do go back, you'd be amazed at how things suddenly fall into place. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
