MS FS 2020 Update # 5 Now Available

Featured Replies

Disconnect from the Internet, skip the update, connect with the sim running. This will save you the risk of CTD.

I haven't had any CTD's (yet) but I haven't managed a decent flight as the bindings on my X52 Pro have all got screwed up by this latest patch and it no longer seems to recognise the POV switch on the joystick.  Keyboard bindings for views also seem a bit off.  I can no longer press SHIFT-LEFT for example as it comes up as SHIFT-NUM4 when I'm not using the Numpad at all.

Haven't noticed any change in the 'twitchiness' either which is a shame as I was hoping they'd made the planes flyable!

OK. I've read a few ideas about 'twitchiness' and have followed some recommendations around the sensitivity (set to - 30) and I've seen quite an improvement.  Just need Asobo to sort out the peripheral issues now and I might get my pov switch back.

PS:  has anyone tried the Cj4 mod since the update?  My FMC is just blank.

I am loving the new version. Night lighting looks much better, AA is significantly better, water looks better, and visuals just look sharper. Excellent update.

Could you tell me which GPU you are using? I just saw a bug report about this at the forum from someone with pretty much the same GPU as mine. Hopefully this is not an issue exclusive to that generation...

I have the flickering clouds issue as well.  My GPU is a Titan Black (same generation as GTX 7xx I think).  Tried various graphics settings, rebooting, disabling OC - nothing helps.  Haven't tried the latest driver yet.

Braptastic7348 on the official forum proposed a way (not direclty applicable to Steam version) to delete the offending controller profiles:

I wonder if CIA or NSA is involved in the sim creation, why the hell are they trying to hide the config files?

Thanks for the info, but I'm hoping Asobo comes up with a fix so I don't have redo all my controller profiles.

Examples of night lighting. Downtown city buildings are still too dim. General distant landscape, street lighting and residential lights are pretty good! Fourth pic is Toronto skyline seen from City Centre Airport and the last one is over the Rogers Center. Unedited shots from 5K monitor

Thanks. At the official forums I also saw reports with the GTX 750 Ti and the GTX 770. Seems to be affecting Kepler and Maxwell cards which is a shame. Still downloading the new driver, will let you know once I do a test.

The number of us reporting the same issue suggests a flawed update.

All the more reason why there should NEVER be a game/app that forces updates without giving the user the ability to roll it back to an earlier, working version.

I've been using the Xbox Game Pass, but, if this update bricks my game, I'll be tempted to cancel my membership for awhile until they get the bloody thing stable.  I can only imagine how furious I'd be if I'd given them my $100+, only to find out that the game no longer runs on my system, with no idea of when/if they'll fix it.

Basically, whether you're going the Game Pass route or shelling out in total, you're only renting any game where the company has the ability to force an update on you that might break it, with you having no recourse but to complain and hope they pay attention to you.

Well after reading that performance is better using in game TAA (I was using Nvidia FXAA) and turning of the rolling cache (I do hate how MSFS keeps changing my settings every time I do anything)...I seem to be back to acceptable performance.

Every update is an adventure thats for sure.....

The GNS 530 mod was causing my CTD's with the Carenado Mooney, removed that MOD and solved this issue.  Agree about the weather, on east coast, I had the same baro setting the entire trip.

It looks better then what they did to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.. According to MSFS there are streetlights all the way along the 15 from LA to LV..lol  looks ridicolous

When you update should be up to the user.

No can do Jose/Richard.... I have too many peripherals to bother with that... hopefully MS realizes this is a showstopper and will release a fix ASAP and not wait for a fortnight.

Did a few tests to see if weather was now matching (or at least reasonably reflecting) real life METARs.  Tried CYHZ, and the weather was pretty close, close enough to be within a margin of error in my eyes.  Got my hopes up, but then I tried CYYC, CYYJ, KSEA and all were nowhere close to real life METARs.  So unless there's still something server side being rolled out (as mentioned in the live stream) my initial observations would point to METAR depiction not being fixed...or very hit and miss at best.

A few other weather observations:

- The winds in the pre-flight menu where you select your airports, the winds in the pop up when the flight loads, and the ATIS winds are all different.  Perhaps that points to whatever the issue is with weather depiction.

- The bug still exists where if you load a second flight without restarting to sim you will get clear skies, 29.92 baro etc.

Feeling disappointed, I thought with the patch notes METAR-based weather might actually have been fixed this time.
