PA-28R Turbo Arrow III

The PA-28R (both Turbo and non-Turbo versions) were enjoyable in P3D (in fact, they still are...). Waiting to know more when the videos for MSFS are released. Hopefully it'll be a good discount to existing P3D users.

And hopefully Xplane users like me! 😀  Although I bought mine from the Xplane store rather than from JustFlight, so I don't know if it will count.  It was a big mistake, I should have gone to JF - the way I was treated by the Xplane store was appalling.  JF have always been superb to me with their customer service.

I really do hope that tablet is optional... Would be odd to finally have an old school plane with DME to do some old school VOR to VOR flying and then being stuck with a super modern tablet on the right. It's blocking the view too. And it's showing information I don't need or want to see during simming: it has nothing to do with the actual flying. It only seems to show gaming options. Who needs that on screen all the time. Makes you too aware of the fact you are playing a sim. Immersion killing. If that tablet can't be removed I won't get this one. Otherwise I might, although I am still in doubt for 3 reasons:

1. I bought this one for Aerofly FS 2 and wasn't blown away by it (even though it wasn't as utterly bad as the other AFS2 planes from JF... they were horrible). Hopefully that was due to AFS2.

2. afaik it doesn't have an AP... that might be a bit too old school for me. 😉 Come to think of it (after looking at the screenshots once more) if I remember it well it did have some sort of old fashioned AP on the lower left of the panel... am I correct? That would be good enough for me.

3. looks like a port and I wonder if the graphics are really 100% on par with the default MSFS planes (funny having to say that...! 😉 ) I don't want any FSX/P3D/AFS2/XP-like graphics in my wonderful MSFS world.

Most other planes with tablets, for example the Jabiru or any of the Carenado planes, have a system where you click on something (the yoke for Carenado, the stowed tablet for Jabiru) to bring the tablet up and then switching the tablet off stows it away again,

I pretty much flew every model of Arrow 180, T-tail, turbo  and etc IRL. This particular screen shot features interesting thing! On the left side (pilot side) there is little mast or static port that is dedicated to auto extension gear system! Piper idea was if aircraft slow down below 87 kts, specially dedicated port would sense it and drop gears! While idea is pretty cool for all gear up landing there is, it created a lot of headache during air work for CFI, students and etc !  To keep gears up override button has to be pressed at all time when speed was low! I personally experienced that feature back in days LOL

If my memory serves me correctly that was an accident when Arrow suppose to land on the belly during emergency landing but instead gear came down causing which cause either injuries or death. Consequently I believe FAA issued AD to remove auto extension system from all Arrow, but static mast still remains as a reminder. Now I don't think XP11 Arrow that I owned had it, but it would very cool if JF get a notch up and made it just like it was back in old days when Arrow was freshly sold from the factory with auto gear extension!

It's a shame about the position of the Manifold Pressure and RPM gauges, but I suppose that is where they are in the real aircraft (slightly behind the yoke).

In any case, I am really interested in this and the non-turbo version.  They used to offer them both in a pack with a bit of a cost saving, so hopefully they will do that again.

I actually mentioned this to the devs a long time ago.  It wouldn't exactly model his aero club model, but there are cockpit configurations where it's on the upper right of the big six....mostly newer models.

That’s where they are in the real plane I have about 150 hours in the Arrow,it’s a pita to set power settings as you have to lean around to see the manifold pressure gauge IRL

I know in a sim it’s different, but I have never had a problems with mp and rpm location IRL for some reason. May be because Arrow was my first complex airplane, so I got to used to it lol

I owned and flew a '79 Turbo Arrow IV (Technically a PA28RT-201T) and the position of the MP/FF and RPM gauges are indeed correct for a plane with a stock panel like this.  Like sd_flyer, I never found the gauge that hard to read IRL.  Due to the fixed wastegate, you really had to watch MP on the takeoff roll, as it could quickly shoot past redline (overboost) once the turbocharger began to spool up.  No, it wasn't in an ideal location, but really not that bad.

Of course, in the sim it can be a problem, but that's the case for some gauge or switch in just about every sim plane to one degree or another.

Turns out that there's another gauge missing in the P3D version that appears to be missing in the MSFS version as well from what I can see in the screenshots and that's the CHT gauge, and it is also critical for engine management in the RW plane.  Since the plane as manufactured also lacked intercooling (and cowl flaps, though mine had aftermarket ones), you really, REALLY had to watch CHTs during climbout.  As with overboosting, CHTs could redline in a heartbeat if you didn't pay attention.

I worked with the developer on the original P3D version, providing images and information on flight characteristics and RW operation and was part of the beta team but unfortunately thanks to an unexpected hospital stay I couldn't provide beta feedback until it was too late.
