For people who are suffering performance Issue after Update3

Featured Replies

Guys,

This is something to check. No promise this is the Issue for you. But this is my story.

After this update I did yesterday, My FPS dropped to like 15FPS when I initially had around 30 FPS. It was stutter. Almost like Pause and go every 30 second. It was unflyable.

Even at the initial start up screen, my FPS was showing 15FPS? I have the Intel's fastest CPU 10 core CPU.

Now I got it working like it used to be... I think.

Someone told me on the main update thread suggested I to delete the rolling cache and restart which I did but the size went to default 8GB and this caused the Internet thrashing…I went to 32GB and the system became calmer. I just increased it to 64GB just in case.

And then Dazzlercee23 asked me to check the Vsync. I had Sync on with Fps Limited to 30FPS (my old setting. But the FPS did not go beyond 15FPS in game. I used to get 30 FPS before. So I increased the FPS limit to 60FPS and now I get 30FPS in the game.

I  suspect this is slowing down many people…if you have sync=on, double your FPS limit first within MSFS and retry.

The way to confirm is, right on the initial setup screen, See the above screenshot. check your FPS … is that limited? For me it was 15FPS not inside a flight, outside at the setup window, that's how another AVSIMer discovered this issue and pointed it to me. The FPS in game has now halved what you have in the FPS limit under vsysnc=on/off settings.

The above may not work for you..so no guarantee. ..but check these two attributes. 1) Rolling Cache Size to be At least 32 2) Try increasing your FPS limit (double what you had earlier)

The following screen with no FPS limits. I now have this at 60fps limit so I get around 30FPS average.. like it used to before this update.

Thanks Manny this will be useful for some I'm sure.

I've just watched the Q&A though and they kind of admitted that there are some issues going on behind the scene - I felt they were very guarded but enough was said to convince me that they know something.

T Flight Rudder Pedals - Trackir.

This addresses the performance issue on the most recent update and is a valid fix . Leave vsync on (in the sim) but bring up the framerate limit from 30 to a higher number.

It however does not address the GPU utilization issue brought on by the UK update.

I concur that changing VSYNC to 60 helps get performance back to where it was before Update 3 but it is not as good as it was before the UK update.

Something is still not quite right.

The game is broken, the evidence is now overwhelming I’m afraid.

Rolling cache, lod sliders, online/offline etc its just placebo

This is so strange how it is so different for so many people.
I have Vsync on and at 30 in the sim, and I am getting a silky smooth 30 (started after the previous update to this).

I don't need to push it up to 60 to get 30.  I will try it though as it will be interesting to see what it does.
I am sure if we could just get on top of the differences we are seeing, it would help us to optimise overall.

Just to say, I am getting the pauses as well (not stuttering) and I can reproduce.  It is the one with GPU, CPU, and manipulators dropping to zero for between a quarter of a second and 2 seconds, and about 2 to 5 seconds in between, persisting for quite some time (many minutes), and can reoccur when flying back to the same area.

This and the loss of the tree LOD are the only things bugging me at the moment.  If we could squeeze these out, I would be fairly satisfied.

Will someone at Asobo please explain, in the name of all that is rational, why meeting their own self-imposed schedule is a priority for them--but testing the sim to see if it works before releasing an "update" is not?

Changes that destroy functionality are something--but they're not updates.

Stop trying to schedule and perform updates that are making the sim more and more unusable for so many.  Just stop.

Pull off the road and stop the car, then try to fix it.  It doesn't need a new paint job right now --especially as it is speeding down the "roadmap" to the next item on the calendar.  Put down the spray-can---Pause a while and think.

Given the thousands being spent for new hardware in a futile effort to make this thing work, and the fact that no one at MS/Asobo seems to give these periodic downloads even a cursory test, a less suspicious person than I might begin to suspect that this pattern of update disasters is purposeful.  It surely isn't hurting the hardware industry--at all.  But it is causing the waste of a considerable amount of the money and (far more importantly) the time of their customers.

Thanks Manny.  Unfortunately, I came up with the same logic as you did and played with and without rolling cache and played with v sync on and off with 30 and 60 fps limiter and for me none of them made any difference (of course some systems may benefit).  I guess ASOBO will at some point identify and fix the issue.  Thanks for posting your findings though as others may benefit as you did.

Manny,

I just came here to check if it was just me. I'm glad you got this sorted and will try your suggestions.

The game is broken, it is a mess, I have 15 fps drops occasionally, and it can happen anywhere, I suffer from "Limited by Main Tread" when it happen, I have never seen that before ever, and my menu UI are very laggy at 10-15fps, some issues going on behind the scene that hammering the cpu.

ASOBO did it again! They broke my sim. 😀

I've been testing and I can't get the fps to stop dropping in 1/2 after a few minutes of flying.

Mate, whilst the wording in this response may seem (to me at least) a little harsh, it is probably hard to imagine a lot of people wanting to vent about the updates and the world updates.

in summary, to my knowledge, there has not been an update which has not broken something or some things, and/or not fixed promised things.

To my knowledge, there has not been a world update which has, in effect, not broken something or some things.

To my knowledge, there has not been a hotfix which has not broken something or somethings,

To be very honest, this has not affected everybody, nor have the affected "victims" suffered exactly the same problems, which just makes this sim all the more frustrating.

Maybe MS/ASOBO would benefit from some small semblance of a QA programme, which for now seems to be completely lacking.

As you have stated something has to be done. If not, maybe the Devs could rename these proceedings to up-setback-dates instead of  updates.

Also, being honest, I am not one of the victims, apart a small niggle with the first update (easily solved) and in this one I have lost the structure in the TBM930 and att I cannot find a solution to it.

I really feel for the guys who are just getting more and more frustrated with each effort to "improve" this sim.

Guys, another suggestion you may want to try I got off of the Skypark discord, and it smoothed out my sim in a very noticeable way. Open task manager, and leave it open. That’s it. Everything was really slow on the menus previously, and TrackIR was a stuttering mess suddenly, right after the update. I don’t even need to see the FPS. Once TIR gets choppy I know my frames are under 30. When I first heard this, just open task manager, I chuckled to myself. Thinking the same thing you’re thinking as you see this. Lol Worth a shot! Several, including myself have seen an improvement. TrackIR is back to smooth as silk, the menus are lightning fast again, and I’m happy mostly. I did get huge multi second freezes similar to what Bobcat mentioned, but it’s performing better now for the most part. Weird for sure, but so is this whole program development.

Have you tried uninstalling the TBM930 in Content Manager and reinstalling it? This has worked for me on two planes.

cobalt,

No mate I have not tried that, Will do so now and report back.  Thanks
