Just came across this

Lol I hope they included in their crappy platform as well.

I have never seen such a stupid developer like CS, like really. First releasing literally, like literally a garbage 777. Only the community, started to bring it into live with repaints and mod and now they are doing this! I think really we should start the hashtag #BoycottCaptainSim to make others aware

The ghost of Peter Tishma and Papa Tango still haunts us!  Takes us right back to around 2000 when he tried to assert that all American Airlines liveries for FS had to be licensed by (with a royalty payable to) him.

I remember having to scramble and put disclaimers in my AA paints here on Avsim after the PT AA debacle.   I remember Tom literally hated his guts and everything he tried to scam from the FS community.

I sincerely hope that this latest livery outrage by CS will spell the end of him and we never have to deal with his trash again.

Steve Dra

Study level dingy! I'm in.  Seriously this looks like good fun, especially in VR

Will it have Chris Farley modeled??

Definitely old enough...painted many POSKY (Project Open Sky for those wondering about the odd-sounding name) planes in the old days.

I would not waste time on that and I don't think it would work anyway as the code is completely different, and besides, you'd be disrespecting the excellent work of Hiroshi Igami (the modeler from POSKY) by trying to use it with CS trash.

Yes, very nice models they made way back when. Project Open Sky was a very active place. I was only joking with the suggestion for this though 😁. I just get flashbacks to those days when I see an aircraft release and people don't like the panel or the model and it would usually lead to long discussions about merging a POSKY panel. Fun times.

Scam by proxy at the least.. It's defiantly getting shadier day by day. CS is saying this is a different class of product from previous versions. They should have labeled it something like "777 'Lite' for MSFS" That could have gone a long way from release. Some of the new names popping up on the CS forums are rather funny.  Captain Trash, CS Livery Thief, Shameful

I was really close to buying their FSX 777 just 2-3 weeks ago. Now seeing what they have become I'm glad I didn't. I bought their FSX Space Shuttle and FSX weapon 10+ years ago and they were great fun. I truly feel bad for any past or present hard working people at CS that made those great looking aircraft that are not a part of this debacle.

I got really excited when I saw this release and didn't care that it wasn't study level, I just wanted a half decent 777 for MSFS. But for $30 this is crazy.

Modding is part of the tradition of FS, since FS98 or even earlier. Granted prior to MSFS2020, things were less complicated. Aircraft.cfg and .air files were the important ones to learn as we added liveries, tweaked FDEs, etc. My first panel merge was with PSS757 panel - remember that company? Over the years, freeware contributors and modders, be it scenery developers, aircraft, panels, utilities, etc, have all shaped our hobby to what it is today. Speaking of panels, here is my final work that now I can finally start to fly and enjoy this aircraft. Its not a replica (not intending to be), but sure beats what we're getting as default !!

I have the PSS 777 for FS2000 and FS2002 and play around with them from time to time. Even the FS2000 version has more buttons to press and systems than the CS 777...

That looks excellent.  Hopefully CS takes all the criticism and updates the aircraft.  Bredok3D did a little bit of work to the 737MAX to make it a little bit more palatable.

I've always tried to be fairly bipartisan with Captain Sim and was, I think, pretty even-handed and fair in my review of their Triple-Seven in spite of most reviews being overwhelmingly negative, but frankly this mean-spirited move from Captain Sim toward repainters is pretty indefensible, to the point where I'm inclined to hope they lose future custom after having pulled this. And I suspect they will too, because no simmers whose main area of interest is repainting are going to buy any of their stuff now for a kick off, and I should think many simmers who don't do repaints will not like this 'trying to push the little guy around' bullying either.

Here's what I pinned in the comments of my review for this product:

'Note that Captain Sim has pulled a fairly mean-spirited move today and demanded that all repaints of this are taken down from freeware site flightsim.to, claiming that they own all repaints for this thing when all people were trying to do was make their product more attractive to potential buyers. This kind of thing has been tried before, years ago, most notably by Peter Tishma with his Papa Tango company, where he also tried to make life hard for repainters. It backfired on him massively and I hope it does too for Captain Sim. Everything I said in my review of this thing still holds true, but I would like to add that if anyone is considering buying this product, they should think very carefully about doing so given this move and how mean-spirited it is toward the flight sim community at large. I hope they revise their decision, but in the meantime, if you have not yet bought this thing, you may wish to show your disapproval by not doing so and hit them in the wallet, because I can guarantee you that I would not have bought and reviewed this product if I'd have known they were going to try this one on.'

Well said Chock

What Captain Sim is doing outrageous and I think it's going to backfire on them.

I'm glad I didn't buy their plane and I don't think I ever will even if they improve it because this whole debacle has left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Thanks. Good luck with future updates. Doubt they will touch the displays. Its out of their league.

WOW!

Background.....

I was a 'heavy' FSX user, I flew everyday with a group of 8-12 friends including Michael Greenblatt (I am sure a lot remember Mike), and we flew almost every plane from every developer, after Mike thoroughly tested, reviewed, and recommended them. I actually have his computer on my desk still loaded with all the planes in FSX.

A while back my own PC crashed and I never re-loaded FSX, I just didnt have the ambition to install all 300 gigs after Mike passed. I had to mention all that to explain why I lost interest in flight simming and stopped perusing the various forums, including Capt Sim.

I always liked CS planes, even with the bugs. At one point I was approached by them asking if I wanted to beta test for them...I passed on that at the time. Flash forward a few years and here we are today.....and after following this entire thread I am now caught up with the latest news about CS....I had no idea the company had changed so much and the leadership was different now.

I almost bought the 777 just to see what the fuss was about but I decided to wait, especially after watching Chocks video (tks m8). I am glad I did!

I can't believe the latest move by CS! They, it, him, or who ever, have lost my support and unless they make a drastic change in attitude they will never regain it. CS used code from another developer and then has the audacity to claim 3rd party re-paints are copyrighted and belong to them?????

I have seen some shady stuff over the years simming.....but this sets a whole new bar...LOWER much much lower! Cya CS

We all know, just because they have a clause in their terms of service that they have gone legal on, it doesn't make it 'right'.  They are facing a massive backlash.  What a way to trash your own company!

Exactly, just because you put it in your terms and conditions doesnt make it "true". Claiming copyright on user generated artwork?  LOOOOOOOL
