I am also not a fan of the Moire effect where the clouds meet the horizon or mountain ridge line in a turn. Other than that they are pretty good. There also seems to be odd lighting inconstancies in regards to sun angle vs how dark the cloud is. A lot of clouds are dark even with direct sunlight or thin overcast. My cloud settings are ULTRA. One of the recent interviews with Jorge, he said there were some advancements coming with weather “that would blow our minds”. I really look forward to it. Imagine what we will have if they can solidly build on this. Really? Wow, good Lord that is actually....something I would not be too surprised on. They've left a lot of headroom now for higher end PC to exploit and that would be a killer place to do it. Thanks for passing that on! August 10, 20214 yr There is no doubt that the clouds have been downgraded since SU5. Sure from a distance and in certain lighting and weather situations they can still look decent but at least half the time they look a lot worse for me now especially when up close. They have lost much of their detail and realism and often times now resemble something from an amateur oil painting. If that's the way they were from the beginning, then sure, I'd say it's better than FSX or X-Plane but the fact remains that the clouds were considerably better before SU5 landed so I don't see why it shouldn't be called out for what it is, which whether we like it or not, is a downgrade made to run better on Xbox. I think it is rather sneaky what has been done here with SU5 especially having promised that the sim would not be downgraded for PC users. Their silence says a lot considering all the community feedback.

Yes but high clouds due to their elevation are composed of relativity low density ice crystals so when up close, high clouds are not well defined. As such, depiction of high clouds (mostly cirrostratus) in the sim, is a good representation of reality.
August 10, 20214 yr Clouds have always been a mixed bag and still are . They go from sensational (as in « never seen in a sim before ») to pretty good to... dreary (cf. cotonous grey balls of volcanic ash). I can’t see anything changed post-SU5. Although I can produce good looking screenshots like those shown in this thread too my overall impression is that after SU5 I now more frequently think the skies I'm seeing could be achieved in P3D with EA as well (and I see an example in this thread already). I didn't have that impression from launch until SU5. I think some changes to the overall lighting play a roll as well as adaptations made for HDR users. Oh - and there's still some greenish/purple color banding on my SDR screen, although HF2 made that a bit less annoying. Please note those are MY impressions.
