I just re-loaded the Scillys mod from superspud. Xp11 and P3D have nothing like this. I tired the same scenery area in all three and MSFS is in a different league. Just the elevations alone are totally different as well as the textures and buildings.

OK, so the mod improves the airport, but the island is rendered beautifully and realistically.

There's just infinitely more to do in MSFS.  In P3Dv5 I was having a ball with Ortho4XP scenery exploring within 1000kms of where I live.

MSFS allows you to explore anywhere in the world, with amazing scenery and 3D buildings, and even if the weather isn't perfect no 2 flights are the same.  Miss my A2A and PMDG P3D addons, but not enough to lament when the Mooney is fine for GA cruising and Fenix and PMDG showing signs of catching up with MSFS properly very soon.

To each his own.

Currently I'm using both with a growing bias towards MSFS. For shorter flights, mostly VFR, I'm in MSFS. Flying with HQ airliners like from PMDG or Majestic I prefer P3D. Things may change within the next year. But until then P3D remains on my PC, at least as long I have enough disk space for both.

P3D will remain as a long as there are no A2A aircraft in MFS.

Lets see first where I agree with you.

I do agree that simming is not only about graphics. I’d add this is a general rule for any game. To plagiarize an old saying, there are three key elements that make a game fun to play : gameplay, gameplay and gameplay.

I also agree that the A2A Texan is a fabulous simcraft and I do miss her in MFs.

Now I do not agree 😄 when you short change MFS a little bit saying the sim is about «  fabulous graphics ». Not for me, for me it is about the world cover with a convincing terrain (not everywhere but mostly). I understand that many people love to fly in their own country. Me, I am never so happy when I fly in western China, Idaho, the Andes or Sulawesi. MFS allows that. Not P3D.

Aircraft ? Yes MFS is a little short here of what I like. But the Xcub is not bad, the Dc-6 is great and I have a couple of palatable warbirds. A2A aircraft may come one day. I am not sure that the Texan will be a priority by the way.

You will tell me, have both. Nope, one sim on my computer is enough for me. MFS. I am no MFS fanatic, when and if P3D brings me the world, I will reconsider.

Simming since 1981 -  [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam

Whilst I agree with you and still have P3D on my computer (along with many other flight sims because of what they specifically offer), I think it's as well to also consider that when people say 'flight simming isn't just about fabulous graphics', what many forget about MSFS is that what it is to a large extent actually about, is 'fabulous graphics at a a frame rate which is acceptable even on a less-well-endowed and in fact pretty inexpensive PC (or even XBox) and without spending a lot on additional scenery. And offering a better flight model whilst it does it too'.

You can have pretty good graphics on other sims, if you are prepared - and fortunate enough - to get your hand in your pocket to achieve this. But it is in no way the democratising and widespread offering which MSFS is.

Beyond even these admirable ideals, it becomes patently obvious if you do have P3D and MSFS, and have the same plane from the same developer in both sims (for example the Just Flight PA28s), that the flying experience in MSFS is markedly superior to that in P3D, and that one has nothing to do with graphics at all. I'd recommend people try that if they have both versions of that aeroplane; they'll very quickly see that MSFS is more than just a pretty face.

P3D still serves pretty well for things like the Majestic Dash-Eight Q400 etc, but in all honesty, if we crank up the A2A Bonanza in P3D and then crank up the default Bonanza in MSFS and fly them both around. Brilliant as the A2A Beech is with its subtle details, the way MSFS handles flight modeling means that even this default aeroplane can stand a comparison with an A2A aeroplane in P3D, and when you can find things to favourably compare against a payware A2A aeroplane with a default freebie, it's pretty obvious which way the wind is blowing, so I just hope A2A get their sails up soon and go with that wind.

It's obvious that the OP is new to this sim. The thought that this sim has matured is LOL laughable!

Let's be accurate -- the OP actually said "It is maturing". Same might be said of a teenager. True in both cases, I would say.

I have no choice. What was an amazing simulator for me for 11 months is now complete and utter garbage after SU5. I have to wait for SU6 and hold out hope that the sim returns to some semblance of its former self at that point. Right now it is absolutely unusable for me. Pure trash.

That is very atypical at this point.  Most, after having some issues w/ CTD and other, seem to have something better in some respects for certain, and still lacking in other respects.  It's really about a wash for me at this point.  I had maybe 3-4 CTD early on, and haven't  had a one now for the past 8 flights or so.  Cloud detail is deteriorated, but still not bad expecially compared to the other sims, and of course there is a major update pending there, so we won't quibble about this temporary downturn in detail.  ATC and Nav is pretty much the same now.  What's better it total performance, by about 25% or so.  What worse in terms of IQ is tangeltial views are less clear, but when you turn and look directly, or in the case of looking forward, there is much better LOD out farther even at the default Ultra setting.  The abrupt tree margin is gone now which is a nice plus.

So, not sure what happened to you to turn what I just described into 'pure trash', and haven't a clue.  I'm guessing for you it must be recurrent CTD?

I hated SU5 when it first came out, and even after the hotfixes, it didn't seem to be what it was during SU4. I have to admit in the last few days, it seems to be looking better and better. Just some shimmering in tree forests, but other than that, not too bad. Waiting for all my aircraft that have bugs now, to be fixed, but they are all flyable. No CTDs at all.

For me SU5 is working perfect. Just about to finish the bush trip to Santorini where I was on holiday 3 years ago. Just wow.
I just built my new PC and I can guarantee that I won’t install P3D ever again even if I invested a ton of $ in there.

Let's be accurate, the sim is not "maturing every month." In reality the sim is NOT as good as it was after the second update. It went down hill and it's been getting worse with every update. I just don't get why SOME MSFS simmers keep living in an alternate reality? This is really not that hard to grasp.

I just took a luck at the monthly updated pics and I clearly see clouds and ground textures that do not look as good as past monthly pics.

Looks OK to me, guess I need to get my vision checked.
