August 12, 20214 yr Personally, I have noticed no difference in the visuals before and after the latest update (though so many others have that I guess it's just me.) I have noticed lots of other things that are different, many not for the better, and I wonder why some of these choices were made. Like the way of interacting with items in the cockpits.

SU4 didn't have houses and things popping up as you flew along, like it does now.

This! The culling and pop-ins from SU5 is killing me. One of my favorite things about the sim before SU5 was there were none of them. There isn't one other sim out there that doesn't have some level of pop-ins and culling, so I was really enjoying MSFS because of that. I have a pretty beefy system and Im only running it on 1080p for now, so I'm looking forward to having the ability to utilize my system to its full potential.
August 12, 20214 yr I couldn't even fire up XP11 after I saw the first E3 trailer 2 years ago... And yes, this means one year without simming!

August 12, 20214 yr I know what you mean! I use MSFS and XP11 almost in equal measure. They dont compete on my system and I'm no fanboi of either - instead for me they just compliment each other. If I fly low and slow GA In XP11 then the pain is real seeing the dated landscape and cardboard trees. However I only use XP11 now for my B737-800, MAX-8 & Airbus A220 fix. From up in the flight levels its not a big deal. But when I want to fly the Caravan, Carbon Cub, C172 and similar then wow MSFS scenery takes this flying to the next level! The immersion is complete. So for me the aviation trio is complete on my system. MSFS for low and slow, XP11 for tubeliners & DCS for carnage 😷 Edited August 12, 20214 yr by ThrottleUp
August 12, 20214 yr I spent lots n lots of $$ on P3D, trying to put lipstick on it, but in the end my 9900K@5Ghz couldn't really run it w/ the main planes I really enjoy, the PMDG NGXu and 777. You cannot get the complete experience of 'cockpit simulation' complete w/ GSX II & FSCaptain in MSFS yet, so I still use P3D and enjoy it. The work around for marginal performance with those planes, which I've mentioned here several times already, is to disable the really performance-gobbling ORBX NCA/SCA, then dial back sliders WAY BACK, to nearly sparse and medium range, then fly exclusively in the wee hours, from dusk thru dawn, when sky colors often are nice to look at. There are aspects of night lighting I actually prefer in P3D over MSFS. I do not like the dim, fuzzy stars in MSFS, especially when looking tangentially, they don't twinkle at all, and on a crystal clear night to me the stars in P3D often look more realistic. And somewhat the same for lighting at night. I feel the individual night lights in MSFS are often too large, globular and fuzzy looking, though I can tell from photographs of actual city night lights there are elements of MSFS that are much more realistic. I primarily use P3D now when MSFS suffers post-update, as in the recent one I rekindled P3D after a long hiatus. To be frank, you can see the polish in it and it well should be polished considering how ancient it is. Best to keep the lights dim though else you see the weird fake world outside and can barely tell where you are w/o looking at LittleNavMap! August 12, 20214 yr I fly sims exclusively in VR and have loved Xplane 11 with the Orbx True Earth scenery since the first time I got the Gen1 HP Reverb. And when MSFS2020 came out, and didn't have VR I was disappointed and guessed it would be 3 years before it caught up with where X Plane already was. And when MSFS2020 VR came out and - even with what I considered to be a decent spec CPU and GPU - it was a shuddering mess even on lowest graphics settings, I thought it would be a couple of years before it caught up with X Plane But eventually I invested another huge amount of cash and updated my CPU and GPU and could run MSFS2020 on half decent graphics settings and get a smooth flight experience. Great visuals, but the flying was disappointing. So I used MSFS2020 to wow friends and family with the scenery but always went back to XPlane 11 for the flight experience. My hunch was that it would be well into next year before MSFS2020 caught up with this aspect. And I've just bought the superb Just Flight Arrow III and Warrior II addons for MSFS. And Oh my... Having had a number of flights in the past few days of such quality and realism, in spite of the pop ins and other stuff we all know and 'love', at a level that 3 years ago I had no expectation of experiencing ever - yes, @RTK1972 I know exactly where you're coming from. I still love XPlane 11. But MSFS2020 has just reached a whole new level, pop ins regardless. It was several terabytes of things that I had carefully preserved for years, much of which is unavailable and or can no longer be found. But it was time to give it up. Everything Changes, and some of that stuff was literally decades old, transferred lovingly from drive to drive as they failed but never ever likely to be used again. A few weeks ago, after hesitating for quite a while over the delete button, I finally got rid of it all, feeling like I was giving up a part of my life. yes i understand Im a bit that way with FSX and P3D but ill never use it again im sure Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
