In reality the sim is NOT as good as it was after the second update. It went down hill and it's been getting worse with every update.

What you're referring to IMO is the predicted changes that happened as they dialed in what is required for MSFS to run on Xbox.  Not one surprise there for me I fully expected this.  This being said, it has improved in many meaningful ways even if some of that is obscured by side effects of the Xbox port.   SU4 was my best looking version, very stable in terms of CTD, image quality in large part, but was also plagued by the abrupt tree line, and I really needed to dial back sliders to avoid serious FPS drops on final approach to many airports.   That never happens now and in some ways LOD is much better now, at least when looking directly at something.   Azure voice is drastically improved, and I think that came w/ SU5 but not sure.  I could not stand it thru several updates so went to the off-line version.  All of this is going to very temporary and I would give 8:1 odds they will get to opimizing for their other operating system, Full Windows 10/11, hopefully fairly soon.  I think soon is reasonable because it appears they have done a decent job w/ optimizing for Xbox already.  The is alledgely a major weather overhaul coming that it touted to be impressive.   That have much more hardware to exploit by optimizing for Win 10/11, and really very littlte to lose by doing that.

It's so strange to me.......

Even if we accede to the meme that the sim has somehow gotten worse, could somebody of that opinion then go on to mention what other sim, now or ever, gives us anything even near MSFS's combination and level of visuals, rapidly growing technical brilliance, and now, speed?

Let's be accurate, the sim is not "maturing every month." In reality the sim is NOT as good as it was after the second update. It went down hill and it's been getting worse with every update. I just don't get why SOME MSFS simmers keep living in an alternate reality? This is really not that hard to grasp.

The sim is absolutely maturing. Maybe not all features are showing the same straight line improvement, and clearly for you some important features are behind, but it is absolutely maturing.

Enjoy your beautiful sim.

Maybe post some evidence to backup your claim . I've been comparing videos of the release version in 2020 to SU5 with the last hotfix and I can't see this degradation. I'm running an i7 11th Gen , 32GB ram and a RTX3090 in 4K render and resolution and it looks identical to this video from a year ago on my system. I've also been in every beta since before release so I do know what it looked like.

I have to say since SU5 & HF2 I have been really happy. Previously I would spend time in X-Plane 11 for the FF A320 & Zibo 737 and use MSFS to buzz around in the TBM or DA40. For the last 8 days I have flown nothing other than the Dev version of the A32NX and boy have I had a blast. (Close to 30 flights all around 2 -3 hours) I am getting a solid 60fps on the high end preset with a couple of tweaks and on my 42" 1080P TV it looks splendid, sure of course it is not pin point sharp as 4K but none the less it looks mighty good. I am seeing CPU & GPU usage sitting around 60% so I wonder if my rig and trusty old 1080TI could manage some 1440 action lol

I know there are some bugs to work out and with every update the A32NX just get's better & better, if the current state of the sim is the new yardstick the future is going to be awesome for MSFS. The big thing is as with X-Plane 11 I spend all my time flying and not tweaking, I am lucky that I have not been plagued with CTD's like some. It just works and I love it.

Happy Days 🙂

My take on this last update from what I gleaned from the many interviews prior to the release is this. They were working on I believe forty branches. The original release was a proof of concept that all the streaming systems were functional. Over the first year they added more branches and leaves to the main core engine but realized the limitations of continually adding to the trunk, and the performance issues which would really start to manifest themselves if the core was not replaced. With su5 they replaced the trunk of the tree with a better one, and then had to reattach all the branches and leaves that grew over that first year. Most got correctly put back, some didn't. In time this will be corrected, and the "tree" will be able to grow large and live a long life.

So, not sure what happened to you to turn what I just described into 'pure trash', and haven't a clue.  I'm guessing for you it must be recurrent CTD?

Constant, and I do mean constant, microstutters when looking around with TrackIR and a nice long pause every 5 minutes. It’s wonderful.

Was it decent w/ SU4?  I guess you will have to abandon TrackIR until it's fixed.

Same experience with me for the most part. I have been placing myself at Heathrow and doing 200 nm +/- trips have really enjoyed the smoothness and awesome weather conditions and lighting which really help give the immersion of flight.  Really is a reliable sim for me.

For me, I've been starting out from Gatwick a lot, due to the excellent freeware scenery.

And yes, like I suspect for a lot of people, the new smoothness is a game changer for me. Previously, when coming in for a landing at the large airports I prefer, FPS would tend to drop to a level that for my perceptions, interfered with the feeling of realism.

After SU5 however, the first few times coasting down to the Heathrow runway at near 60FPS......

Looking sideways at the stadium, and not seeing it begin to chug slightly, but instead slide by as smooth as you please...

And finally hitting the runway with movie-like FPS..... I just grinned like a kid on christmas. ( I never thought Asobo could do it)

Then I did it again. And again. And I've since been traveling everywhere, even right over cities where previously I could always expect heavy FPS fluctuations (London) and now it just slides by like glass.

I was/am more than impressed. Especially considering for how many years we were informed repeatedly that what we are now seeing every day was an impossible pipe dream.

It was absolutely brilliant up until SU5. Funny thing is, after this post earlier I tried a stutter fix list here on avsim and it worked. Stutters gone. Visuals are still degraded quite noticeably but at least it doesn’t stutter and pause.

Me too.

I consider my self lucky that i have 2-3 planes that they can fly well enough. TBM,CJ4 and CRJ.. There are not PMDG but they can keep me alive until PMDG / FSLABS come to MSFS with their mainstream products.

Performance , atmospherics and visuals are far better with the same rig. So i will miss a couple of upgrade cycles until i really need one.

If you don't believe check my sig for my photos. An i7-8770k with a GTX1070 on 1440p....

I just potter about in the C140 most days.

Apologies for the slightly odd color and contrast in places, I remuxed it from HDR back down to SDR for YouTube.

PMDG is here with a great aircraft already, the DC6, although unlike the follow the magenta line aircraft, you actually have to fly it.
